I get far too many colonies with excess population, requiring me to waste many tiles on entertainment buildings, so I have developed a set of rules: No farms on tiles with a bonus greater than 100% unless I am trying to fast-grow a colony on a high-PQ world. Replace farms on farming-bonus tiles with farms on no-bonus tiles (build the new one before destroying the old, so you don't lose a huge amount of population to starvation) if you have more than triple (or frequently mo

Try updating your audio drivers, and giving yourself a much larger virtual memory file.
That is definitely not the latest driver, and don't forget to reinstall DirectX after you replace the audio driver. I had a long-term problem with audio, because the Miles Sound System really is a piece of crap, and eventually had to remove my Sound Blaster Audigy card and reactivate my on-board AC97 audio, plus replace the driver three times and reinstall directx before I could get rid of the same exact problem. Two things to note: The geniuses at RealTek
I find it a lot easier to see than the grid lines, especially the thinner, darker parsec ones. Fortunately, I have a fancy monitor with a button that switches between normal, 3x brightness and 4x brightness, but most people don't. My recommendation would be any of the following, or combinations: 1) turn your lights out (you can use a table lamp beside or behidn the monitor to see your keyboard/mouse if you need it). 2) adjust your monitor brightness and/or contra
GC2 is already a pain in the butt to play in 1024x768 mode, anything smaller would require a complete rewrite of the interface. Besides, calling most fo the quoted "TBS" console games mentioned by that genre name is about as realistic as the whole "RTS" genre - RTS is not even remotely about strategy, it is about tactics, and should be called "RTT". In the same way, most console "TBS" games cannot truly bear the name "TBS", and the few that can do not hold a candle to games like GC2 i
There are games that have a sort of "blind research" already, where you research in an area and get various improvements based on how much research you put into each area. Most of them allow you to research multiple areas at once, putting various amounts of your available points into each area. I don't see a problem, however, with GC2's system, because if you look at it, it is based more on a combination of "cornerstone technologies" and "incremental improvements". Laser is a cornerst
A turn is a week long, so crew have plenty of time to don their spacesuits for battle. It's "documented" in endless science fiction (remember, a game is also fiction) novels, where the first reaction to attack is to get into a vacuum suit. A lot of novels also depict ship crews as wearing pressure suits continually, but with the helmet off (like the space shuttle crews generally do, at least during takeoff and landing). A ship could also have crew cabins each with extra armour and a single door
I use white for my custom race's colour, no race in the game uses white. I have tried so many different colours, but there is always one race whose colour ends up being very similar, probably because they started with primary and secondary colours then move on to tertiary, so you are looking for a "gap" more than anything else. The way the minimap changes in brightness from time to time and the stupid "shine" streak across the top doesn't help either.
Here's a thought for you all, in the vein of this conversation. George W. Bush is, in almost every way, exactly like Adolph Hitler. How he justifies things, how he acts towards people, how he views his country, and everything outside of it. They are virtually identical.
Talon> you fiddled with your config.sys on your Apple IIc, eh? marvellous accomplishment, considering that Apple IIe's have never run MS/PC-DOS. ~~~ Never had a crash while saving, autosave is off. My crashes in 027 seem to be when the AI is thinking or, rarely, when a move path is being calculated (and GC2 comes up with some really bizarre, highly inefficient move paths).
That could be your problem............
feh! Life support is for wimpy races! Build starbases to extend your range! that's probably what the AIs are doing to reach that far, my opponents do it extensively.
What do you mean by "full" resolution, franco? My screen can do 2048x1536 fullscreen, but it's a pain in the butt to play on. I either use 1360x1024 fullscreen, or 1024x768 windowed on a 1600x1200 desktop so I can have other stuff open.
... 13) When you capture a colony, or flip it, the queue should automatically be stripped of improvements you cannot build or use yet, such as Manufacturing Centres if all you can use are Enhanced Factories.
ive it away, it's only a PQ5. You can recapture it later if you have to.
1) When multiple constructors will arrive at one starbase in a single turn, have a field that displays the number of upgrades selected/available, checkboxes to select the upgrades, and a running total of additional costs, with just one confirmation at the end. 2) When loading a game, don't display the same message you get when you start a game, it just doesn't belong there at all and looks, well, rather dumb. 3) In the list of ships you get when you click on a fleet, have a
Rule number 1 of upgrading a computer is to never, ever use an existing install of an operating system when you change the motherboard. There are literally dozens of components on a motherboard, and the change can severely cripple your registry, operating system, driver configuration and so on. Back up any important files to CD, DVD, USB key, or another hard drive and reinstall Windows from scratch (or install Windows on a new HD and put your old HD as the secondary drive), including
I save a lot, so I have always turned off autosave on every game since before Civ 1 came out. Seems to have helped me, as half of the games I have played in the last several years seem to have bugs in the autosave
I just last night had an entire region of approximately 3x3 complete sectors turn into Class 12 planets (over 30 formerly Class 0 planets) due to some ancient artefact the Torians (last race, down to just 2 colonies) dug up. I had to race like a fiend to get them colonized before their two colonies flipped, as I had only left about a dozen colonies with starports by this time, trying to maximize my productivity.
There is only so much that can be done with "artificial" intelligence, especially if you don't want the computer taking half an hour per race for its turns. Throughout the history of computer gaming, the only way that has consistently allowed a computer player to challenge a human is to give it an "unfair" advantage. Even the much-celebrated "Deep Blue" only beat Kasparov once, and IBM would not allow a rematch, because that would show just how limited the computer was as the champion became acc
I get a few in 027, but that "ultimate power" one seems to pop up every single time I let the pace of my galactic takeover slack a bit while I power-research.
Three crashes since downloading the release version (1.10.027) and not a single debug.err anywhere on my system. I looked in every folder I could think of, then used two different search utilities to verify that debug.err does not exist.

SuperGeek > A few years from now? You can get a rig from Alienware with 2GB of total video memory (4x512MB nVidia 7900 GPU) and 4GB of system RAM. Even a standard dual SLI rig can have 1GB of video RAM.
Just click on "Everything" and you get to see all the most recent posts, bumps notwithstanding.
