I took this strat from that very incident. When minor civs come begging for help, I give them 1 bc. They go all goo-goo jumping up and down.. just too funny. And when a major civ is begging for help I give them 1 Influence point and they are so happy you would think I just married thier sister !!!!!

@darth Silliness Why not tweak the Huge ship to be the first target in the fleet? It would seem like that ship would be much harder for the enemy to destroy?
Slow moving Scan ships ... something I have not tried. I have always made FAST spy ships because I find durnig wars the enemy AI seeks out these ships to destroy and I can lure thier ships (and even fleets) to chase them. This often allows my own version of "vulture" fighters to attack enemy frieghters and conctructors.
Thanks for the input SleekDD, I generally put 1 farm on PQ8+ (none if lower PQ). I then only add another farm later as I reach max pop on PQ12+, the best planet I have ever owned for long enough to even think of farm#3 was a PQ18. My top PQ plant was 26, but I only got that one at the end of a long game.
With no comment on the words he chose, the OP does raise the question of will a future Earth SPACE force be modeled on the Navy or the Air Force. Instead of Ensign maybe "Spaceman" (rather than Seaman or Airman)????
I usually plan to add farm upgrades carefully so I can control each planets morale and population. If the AI trys to trade these techs to me I can decline, but when I get these thru conquest I will have to make adjustment to some planets focus. If it is a game where I have lots of worlds this involves going to each Colony Management screen and checking the settings. This can happen with factory(s), research labs and entertain buildings as well. My post was really just an observation of something
Is it just me or is it more times than not that the first planet I conquer I get the farm update tech and it trashes my population growth strat ...?
This is not as dumb as it may seem...I never build a starport on Mars so getting a defender type ship with no engines there from Earth can take a few turns...this could be a problem during a war situation when conquering systems and you need to get defenders in orbit to prevent enemy transports retaking the planet.
Ditto for weapons...which can greatly affect defense tech strat. This is why I love this game... it is never as easy as it sounds.
However, that said maybe a time limit on turns would make an interesting game...?
Another big issue is the ship design...I love to spend time making my ships look just so...and that is not very MP friendly.
Ajax has a good point, but the AI will place ships in fleets with different defense techs and this complicates fleet battles...
Renaming starbases is good to ID the type, military, Influence etc...I even do this to the other civ's bases.
I sometimes let my 10 year old daughter start a game (she knows the basic ideas OK) and then I take over and see if I can "recover" form her start. She could probably do better then me if she cared enough to try, she is a bit of a computer geek...
Maye "hotseat" wpuld be the easiest way to do MP ?
Once as the very evil Dreng (I took every evil random event choice) I lost 3 planets to the do-gooder Fundamenalist gang. One of the worlds they took was my best planet and it took a bloody civil war to retake my planets. At the time I was in a two front war with the Torians and Arceans, so my military was spread vey thin. And yes, I taxed to the max until election time...pure evil hehehehe
The pop will start declining if Morale is less then 20%. The main effect of morale in this game is in the elections that occur when you research advanced governments. The Galciv Wiki has some good info on this topic ... there is a link to it on this website's homepage.
Way TOO many ships - Now I get it ... I thought this post would have a link to user designed ships. Oops
Maybe if I had a 25 hour day I could complete a thought properly ...???
I am old as mold, but I think 13 yr old posters should be welcome ... the only hope of the future is the voice of the young ...
The Stormbringer and Graig have hit the nail on head ...not only have my wife, my job, girlfriend, the kids and those dumb cats who want to be eat every day become a big pain in my butt ... I am having a hard time checking this web site often enough to keep up on the lastest dope on strat, ideas and updates that I htink the 24 hour day need to be reconsidered ...
No B5 on TV is to maximize DVD sales... WB has already reaped $500 mil gross ... so no B5 on TV for now... a little OT, there is still some buzz about a B5 RPG computer game ... but I have been hearing this for almost 2 years, so we will see.
UPDATE The Dreng launched an assult on the Scotts homeworld, but the Scotties had a large Defender fleet in orbit and despite many ships lost on both sides the Scotts held on... I rush built a fighter-fleet and attacked the Dreng to divert thier attention. I lost most of my fleet, but the situation has settled into a stand-off. Well, not for the Terrans who launched a large attack on the Dreng and were totally destroyed... and to Feud - Bingo !!!
You are correct on both points Paladin.
I was addicted to the Rome Total War game before I got GalCiv2 ... I have played NOTHING but this game since I got it.
