Hey, crappy planets, like say, MARS, don't even generate income (just a little research). The only reason to own them is SPITE, I don't like the aliens in my neighborhood. "NOT IN MY HOUSE !!!"

For the Homeworld, should be 10 tiles, so 1-Capital 2-factory 3-Spaceport 4-factory 5-EnterNet 6-market 7-market 8-enterNet and two for future use... this is eary game.
This is my version of the "Defender" : Tiny hull,no engine, sensors, life support - just one gun. The AI will put one on each planet to start, so I put 3 to show them who's boss !!!
If you are evil then 55-65% is OK, you are EVIL who cares if they like you ???????? Just kidding, but I have won games as evil with 60% approval. No military is needed during the colony rush, it's a waste of research. For your first statement of Military Might ... build your own "Defender" : Tiny hull, no engine, no modules and one gun !!! Build or put one on each planet and you are now an early game MILITARY GIANT.
Well, often when Evil, I enjoy ruining the aliens world, leave it an unusable mess. And yes the mini-bots would work for GOOD, but I do not usually reseach them when playing as a goody.
I use different invasion tactics depending on my game alignment. When EVIL I will use mini-soldiers to take a high value world, but I love to use mass drivers, tidal disruptors to leave a devasated planet with a small occupation force. When GOOD or Neutered, I have not had much luck with Info Warfare so I just use tons of transports and attack until I own the place.
For the Senator: A search on "gigantic" tuned up some posts on galaxy size and a few others but nothing on ship size. The search funtion on these forums does work, but it has taken some getting use to and new posters may not have much luck finding the info they want. This often leads to repeat posts on the same topic.
I used the battle viewer at first, but I find I rarely do now. For me it slows the game down too much, I guess I do a lota warmongering. Any thoughts ?
I must admit I played the OS/2 version on a server at work with several other technicians in the early 90's.
My spyships once saw a Dreng scout scoot to one of thier planets just in time to block a Terran transport fleet. The stunned Terran fleet just sat by the planet for a few turns until a Dreng fighter came by and blasted them !!! Some pretty nifty AI.
I did't build the wonder, but kept building freighters and trade routes. While the DL ships were distracted I built a fleet and attacked thier base. That was back at v1.1whatever though ...
An idea for an "easy add" carrier. Carrier module, fits only biggest hull-types. Fighters are like missles, kama-kazi drones. Damage could be tied to starbase research or overall tech level. Maybe someone could even "mod" this ...?
Load game is a constant soure of cheese
And also IIRC, popularity ranking is a factor in who a race will surrender to.
Yes, The Regicide is correct. On the Diplo screen look at the level of your relation to each empire. Neutral, friendly, close, ect... The sum "value" of these is your popular rating... So anything (trade, war, diplo rating ect...) that affects your relations with civs, counts towards your popularity ranking.
Okay, this a surrender story... I am Terran and #1 civ in all graphs (military, econ, etc) The Torians are #2 and the Dreng #3. The Dreng actually have the best ships, that is the best weapons and defense... and Toria and the Dreng are at war... But it is a "phony", no battles or invasions yet... And for no reason I could figure, the Dreng surrender to thier enemy the Torians !!! (I had many spyships and was closely monitoring the situation) I do admit it spiced up the ga
Yikes !!!! The double wammy wormhole trips also happened to me... One of the wormholes was the purple thingy but IIRC, the other was just a normal looking pile of space junk ...?? I always control the Flagship (and any other survey ships) manually now ... The anomoly color is new to me ... This is why these forums are so useful... I now think I can attempt to handle the survey mission better !!!!
Thanks for the input Meglobob, I am going to start a new game as the Industrialists.
I have had success using the Federal, War and Tech parties. Are any others worth trying ????
@shiva That would be "Balloon Payment". Now that transport/colony ship strat, WOW !!!!!!!! I will be adding that to my current game post haste... Many thanks, keep those ideas coming.
Yes, to MarshallONeil I always trade/give away the sensor techs, they are non-military and the AI does not use them very well (check out the minor races ships, they seem to use sensors better than the major powers !) The AI manages the fleet intel task by using scout ships. The AI then REMEMBERS the entire map (much better than a human player) This balances the player advantage of active sensor nets somewhat...
Weapons tech strat idea : Research mass drivers up to nano-ripper !!!! It is the "Plasma Cannon" of GC2.
I agree with V1m, the jump from Beginner to Normal will make the game more enjoyable As for the UP, it is very game dependent, in general the UP benefits GOOD races and slams EVIL ones ... So sometimes I just up and quit the council and in some games I have gained so much Influence that I can control the UP votes to put the screws to my opponets !!
The auto-explore and auto-survey are both great ways to minimize micro-management. BUT, I love to run every detail of my Galactic Civilizations !!!!! I play on the largest maps with abundant anomolies, I find the rush to get these as exciting as the colony rush in early game time frame. Since the AI uses the same auto-survey logic as the player, I feel by conducting the survey operation myself that I can out perform the other races.
