Meh, I was going to post something I thought was funny, but thought better of it.

The first few times you play GalCiv2, you will be thoroughly convinced you're well on your way to dominating someone, only to have your sorry plans handed back to you. :) At least, I did.
Sorry - was just trying to follow style from Elemental forums.
GalCiv2 has the best AI of any strategy game. The original Half-Life continues to impress me to this day: it was very much ahead of its time. I'll never forget the first time I was fighting a fire team of soldiers, and thought I was being clever by popping up, firing, ducking, and then moving to a new location, only to hear them say "Flush him out" right before grenades starting going off everywhere. The Total War series is a lot of fun, but I've never had any trouble trou
I have a dual-monitor display, but unfortunately it can only boot into Clone mode (rather than Dualview). While I wouldn't expect ObjectDock and Fences to "guess" which monitor to move to--they intelligently stay put at the moment--it'd be nice to have a configuration option to allow them to "follow" the Taskbar (even if hidden). My Dualview profile moves the Taskbar for me, but I end up moving my Fences and ObjectDock manually.

Nice. If I recall correctly, WETA had it's 3d graphic artist workstations setup to become a virtual render farm overnight while they were producing Lord of the Rings. This looks like a similar concept, and is a great idea. It's definitely cheaper than a dedicated "build" server or cluster. I look forward to the day when I can rent out my spare CPU cycles. :)

We were discussing AI development while he was playing with Volcanic Upheaval. A few seemed noticeably weaker in certain circumstances (Korx, e.g.), but all of them could do well under at least some c

Unless you're talking to someone on the other side of the international date line. Or if it's close to midnight and you're talking to someone just a litte bit further east.
I’m sure the Beta will be available Soon™. You know: When It’s Done™. [e digicons][/e]
Galactic Civilizations II already does this. The AI will outright tell you that it's coming after you because you keep conquering little guys.
Got that one once after taking out a single Minor: my first conquest of the game. I think the other factions were busy with other, larger problems, but it made me tread lightly for awhile. Definitely one of those "this is cool" moments.
So, I think the consensus is.... 1. The tech system in the game should be fun for a majority of players 2. The tech system in the game should be moddable enough to change it from #1 (see above). In other words, Frogboy: we want our cake, and we want to eat it too. [e digicons][/e]

Very cool idea. I think some of the early threads in the Elemental Ideas forum had similar concepts - but in those cases, the player (ahem, Channeler) would still control the vassals. I actually like the idea of not controlling them directly, though I hope there are ways to influence them.
Kind of like the "View all Research" option in SEV....which would have been more relevant (after the first game) if the research tree were randomized. Also, in terms of "real world" research, there tends to be a difference between scientific theory and engineering, and the development for each is often--though certainly not always--handled by different people.

Nice - I like the magic screen - it doesn't look like the typical "tech tree" at all.
Caradhras was a haunted mountain, with at least one, and probably many, malign spirits. At the least, that is how the Fellowship interpreted their attempt. Interesting fun-fact: Gandalf broke Saruman's staff, thus severing the symbol of and right to the power of the Valar. He could not, however, take from him his voice, for that was his own gift, and part of his nature. Okay, and my post relates to sovereigns and their corrupted children how?.... :p
Personally, I like games where even "long shots" happen once in a while. Dominions 3 is a good example of this -- it's possible that a lowly peasant can take down a fully-kitted and amped Pretender. Very unlikely, but possible. Thus are legends made, and all that. The Rolemaster RPG system is also great for this. That system is absolutely deadly, even for experienced characters. The premise of that game design was that characters, no matter how powerful,
nVidia's nView Desktop Manager has virtual desktops. I've toyed with them only very briefly, though, so consider this more a "go check this out" than a real recommendation.
Very nice. In the second screenshot, it looks like an army of some sort is waiting around. Reminds me of the Saruman speech in the second LotR film. Will soldiers in cities be able to occupy the walls?
I know precisely what Zubaz means. My own company's software is extraordinarily complex and difficult to configure, but is very powerful. We come across very few business requirements we can't configure. That said, oftimes I wish we had an "Easy" button, or at least a "Basic" and "Advanced" view of some screens. Some customers' requirements just aren't that complex, and it'd be nice to present a simpler interface for them, while having an optional advanced int
