Excerpt from reply #3 :
[...] Sorceress, you must also realize that Sins AI is also quite different from the GalCiv AI. [...] It's easy to say the AI isn't so good, and true enough there's always room for improvement for any AI, but at the same time you need to realize the difference in complexity.
;) I did realize the « difference in complexity » between the GalCiv A.I. and the Sins A.I. You took my post at face value (and I don't blame yo

Excerpt from reply #18 :
Whomever says the AI sucks in this game has not tried a 9v1 hard or unfair.
:SURPRISED: A quantity of NINE allied comps is required to illustrate that the quality of the Sins A.I. does not suck ?!! :NOTSURE: The rest of this thread is great, especially, of course, the awesome time & trouble the OP took to deliver us this epic illustration of human skill & courage.
GalCiv's A.I., mostly designed & programmed by Brad "Frogboy" Wardell of Stardock, is deeply more complex & sophisticated than Ironclad's A.I. If Ironclad wants to develop better quality updates + an expansion, it will have to « do something » about its so-so A.I. coding. That's not my personal opinion : the forum is full of complaints about the dumb & dumber computer players.
Excerpt from reply #85 : « This game is entirely RTS in my eyes. [...] Some of my posts may sound biting, but I feel as if I've been deceived by the devs. » Excerpt from reply #93 : « I'm sorry if this sounds scathing but I'm feeling pretty cheated. » @ Ironclad & Stardock creators : How can you Adults take those types of feelings with any measure of serious concern ?! They merely represent minu

Excerpt from post #80, by Blair Fraser of IRONCLAD :
Of everything mentionned here the point I agree most strongly with is : yes, Sins diplomacy needs serious work and we will be re-doing it (probably for the expansion).
:SURPRISED: It's official, then : « they » are working on an expansion ! :D
[MAGOG]Kruelgor, post #69 :
Sorry, I just get a little defensive when someone speaks badly about a game I love so much.
Please don't be sorry : The quote you attacked, in your reply #49, was a nasty & petty caricature.
From reply #63 :
This game is not a 4x game. [...] But I found an interesting RTS game, so I bought it. I then showed it to my friends, all 4x fans as well. I didn't tell them anything about the game, just showed it to them. Their opinion after watching it was "Oh, it's like starcraft!". [...] Sins is a fun RTS, but to in any way act like it's done something other RTS games hasn't is a disservice to games dating all the way back to age of empires, and a disservice to the entire
Defending the competetive pulpit here is a losing proposition, Stardock as policy, is going to take your suggestions with the tiniest grain of salt. It's -very- clear who this game and who this company wants to cater to, the casual players. [...] Sins isn't going to hop onto the competetive play bandwagon, dare I say, ever.
« Spot on » ! The casual players must account for well over 99% of Stardock/Ironclad SINS revenues : A few millions of $
@Sorceresss May your words come true !
;)
In your reply to post #19, JINX, I see that you were quite capable of « restraint » : you didn't take the bait ...
Besides exploits, another « reason [why] some of us don't play online » is the untrustworthy character of the strangers you meet to share a game. Dark Priest's post #43 insists on exploits, but those who want to win by any means have more tricks in their bag : joining a FFA with a buddy, with the pre-arranged plan to start as secret allies and win as a secret team, being one of them.
Allow me to be cynical : I venture the hypothesis that most members of our local (and vocal) hyper-competitive « elite » will absolutely migrate to StarCrack 2 and its Blizzard ladders ... ASAP. My hope is that SINS, by then, will have evolved more in the direction of GalCiv 2 (a 4X Space Empire Builder) than SC 2 (a fast & furious RTS).
Excerpt from reply #19 :
I am a casual player [... but] I guess by agreeing that there are flaws I've become one of the bad 'elite' people who want to ruin single player.
You're indulging into a facile caricature of the casual/elite debate. Being a casual player does not require that you renounce all critical rationality and become a servile « fanboy ». Of course, there are flaws : simply mentioning that does not make you part of a « b
Let's please not let this thread tumble down the same rocky cliff as those other balance threads.
Agreed, JINX : your very detailed & crafted OP merits that the thread's main topic be respected. Speaking for myself : I'll exercise restraint.
People need to be patient, it is going to take a long time for Sins to reach an optimal balance.[...] Be patient, they are going to be supporting this game for a long time.
Sales numbers for the first 6 weeks since release (including, also, the 2007 pre-order sales) encourage us to remain optimistic, in that respect.
As long as they don't burn out from everyone bitching.
You underestimate the forum experience & resilience of Stardock CE
I've spent lots of money on games I regretted purchasing. [...] It's part of life. You sometimes buy things you wish you didn't. That may also happen one day if and when you marry. You may wish you never did.
I regularly hear my dad say that ! ;) (no personal sarcasm against you intended)
This is what I had originally picture sins to be. Basically Moo/GalCiv without a turn button. I do like RTS games anyways, so I'm still having fun with it but it would have been nice to really get a true 4x game with real time dynamics.
My sentiment, exactly.
Mind you, many of the so called elite people posting on the boards really are indeed elite and do know what they're talking about.
Since I never compete against humans in MP Sins, JINX, I'll have to take your word for it : I don't have the MP experience & expertise required to evaluate the (possible) gameplay level of forum posters. I do respect & admire the competitive MP « elite », and I read its posts very carefully. My state
Sorceresss, if you agree with Habadacus, then you're agreeing that it's an RTS and essentially saying this game isn't for you. I seem to recall you posting earlier that this game isn't an RTS... have you changed your mind?
... you are very observant, JINX ... I don't recall, but I might have wanted to say that the game was also designed as a 4X Space Empire Builder ... but, after recently playing more games, I am starting to see SINS mor
Detailed analytical & critical work, JinxOfSin : this time, at least, I agree with most of what you say ... even if I don't fit in any of your 4 categories ...
