AVMan - So I've figured out that problem. You have some sort of web-content enabled on your desktop, microsoft's old "active desktop" (discontinued fater XP). Fences is not currently 'compatible' with active desktop. (In fact, I should look into detecting & notifying the user / auto-disabling fences if detected & offering to disable active desktop if I can) Thanks for pointing out :)

Please see the post @ https://forums.wincustomize.com/?postid=330507 for more info on getting the Impulse Dock back. (You have to do an "add to my account" for it on its product page)
Great - thanks for the report! Thought I fixed the XP no-backgrond stuff, but looks like I didn't, thanks again. Hope you're gettin good use from fences :)
Check out the post @ the bottom of https://forums.wincustomize.com/?postid=330507 :)

Fixed!! (Server-side fix)
ha. amazing report. noted - will fix
Thank you!! :D Glad you love it, I've been wanting to finish and share this app for years :) I can only imagine the features will get better and better, and I can certainly promise the unobtrusiveness/simplicity/no-bloat will not change. Thanks again for the kind words -Jeff Bargmann (Fences Creator)
hi guys, do you have a solid-color background? if so, does setting a wallpaper fix the problem?
Hi, could you give some details about what kind of problems you are having? Are you running XP or Vista, 32bit or 64bit?
Hi Snowman... can you open up taskmanager and try this a fewtimes to help diagnose if this is/isn't Fences? 1) Have Fences enabled, and try reproducing 2) Kill Explorer.exe from taskmanager if its hung, and relaunch. Then *disable fences* via "Edit Fences..."->Tools->"More Tools..." (near bottom) -> "Enable fences" (uncheck). Try reproducing. Repeat the above step a couple times...if you get the same result 3x over, its pretty safe to say Fences is involved. If i
not sure i understand...if they're gone, how did you see them to add them to a fence? rephrase / with screenshots? thanks...
yeah a good idea. but a bit of technical challenge...once i auto-arrange icons, putting them back. could definitely look in to it though thanks
adoptedchild - if you have auto-arrange on, it does move everything out of the way. not sure what to do in the case of grid-mode or free-floating though... i'm not sure i know where to put those icons if you happen to slam down a fence on top of them? i guess a argument could be made too that someone might move a fence on top of some icons only briefly, while shuffling things around... moving those icons out of the way would result in the rest of your desktop getting borked. any ideas
Understood. I'll do my best to think up a way around that, thanks for the scenario
I tend to agree, which is why I've made it an option...but burried it in the "More Tools.." are of the tools page for ppl who DO want it :)
You got it right :) And thanks back for the info!
Hi. Can you tell me about the orientation of your monitors, and where you're placing the icon? E.g. "2 monitors, same resolution, the primary on the right, the secondary on the left in negitive coordinate space" Thank you
Julian, please review the email you recieved a little more closely. For this round of beta we are distributing it via our download manager, Impulse. Install Impulse, and then continue following the instrucitons in the email / entering in your serial number. Fences will appear in the "MyDesktop" tab of Impulse, available for installation.
Yikes! Well I'll tell you what you CAN do, if you're familiar with your System Registry. 1) Open your registry editor 2) Go to the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences\Settings 3) Look for the setting "Exclusions" 4) Edit its value, setting it to being blank Also, before you blank it out, you could copy it down and paste it into a message back here if there's nothing sensitive about it, and I could look to see whats wrong :) Thanks
good tip, thanks for sharing mrtee :)
vote's over, i put it in to the new beta :) Hope you're liking fences! Yeah a couple people across the interwebs have posted about KDE 4.1. For that I usually point people to a forum post from mid 2007, far before KDE ever had thoughts about this kindof thing :) https://forums.wincustomize.com/157218 Never used the KDE rendition though, how well does it operate? They do a good job with it / seamless or ? Heh, had long ago already planned to d
