Vote! Quickhide defaults to excluding "Recycle Bin" / "My Computer" / "Documents" in Fences Beta WinCustomize Forums

So by default, Fences is programmed to exclude the RecycleBin, MyComputer and MyDocuments from being hidden during an quickhide. Two arguments could be made from this... 1) For most users, this is a good thing, as those are popular/useful links to leave unhidden. Since many users won't poke around enough to figure out how to exclude icons (e.g. picture an 'everyuser'), it's convenient to set that up for them automatically. LivinTarget - those are set by default to still show when your fences are hidden. Perrhaps I should turn that default off, it seems to cause more confusion than anything. You can reset them by right clicking those icons and unchecking "Exclude from quickhide" Glad you're [all] enjoying the product :D

also, after a reboot... can you try draggin g a few icons out of their fences, then back in, and then try again? also if you're using deskscapes and/or windows dreamscene, does the problem not happen when they're not running?

Alright, so I've adjusted the hide feature to remember whether or not your icons were hidden on reboots/etc. Had ment to do that anyhow. Will continue to consider the viability of live enabling/disabling of Fences itself.

So, I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to add a feature to allow you to temporarilly turn fences on/off. I'd do it, but there just doesn't seem to be any purpose, and would just cause more problems than it would solve. I guess the thing is, if you turn it off, and then move anything around? And then turn it back on? It'll just revert the changes you made. (It'll just think you've suffered a screen resolution change or etc etc who knows and reset your icons back to where it thi

Confirmed that "Set as Desktop Background" does not work on XP. That one's a Microsoft bug but i'm going to try to find a workaround. As a program setting the wallpaper, you're supposed to send out a WM_SETTINGCHANGE message when you make such a change. Windows in this case does not. Will work around.

messiah - noted, thank you i'll check that out. yeah i have to do special stuff to handle the background in XP that i don't have to do in Vista. the net result is nicer quality in desktop rendering, but, yeah i have to do work to make sure i stay in sync. thanks again

on uninstall of the fences beta, if you're having problems with icons showing, try rebooting, and then unchecking, then re-checking "show desktop icons" for the desktop. the option may get stuck so you may need to do it once or twice. any luck?

hi c242... i think the menu item might be stuck as checked, just want to make sure you toggled it a couple times. i recommend rebooting, and then toggling the "show desktop icons" off, and then back on. try it a cpl times see if that helps

Fences integrates fairly tightly into your desktop at run-time, hooking into various bits of the desktop, so there's no "close"/"unload" at this time unfortunatly....only "uninstall" ;p Realistically without pulling some serious strings it wouldn't be able to completely "unload" without a restart of explorer or your machine. Haha now sure, my personal copies load and unload at a flick of a hotkey... but stability isn't 100% when you pull something like
