The concept of mega events came into being sometime before the DA expansion (I think), and became a new feature of the expansion. Back then, players were asking for more tougher games, with myself included. The basic idea of mega events were to disrupt the game and force you to adapt. If you have a hard time winning at any difficulty less than tough, mega events are probally not for you. If you can beat tough or harder, you might wish to consider mega events. If you complain that some m

Bump. I'm bumping this post since Frogboy recently stated that he's going to look over the forums to look for race balancing issues.
I'll also be reading the forums so that I can pre-bias myself to look at potential balance issues.
When looking at the Yor, check for economic issues. I always try to play without spending points on economic bonuses or morale bonuses. I don't think it should be nessacary to always need to have economy boosting starting abilities in order to play an effective game.
Yes. In fact, I plan to do a long series of play-testing games (and blog about them)
Excellent. Time make my custom race! ________________ Edit: I thought we were getting some more editors, not re-enabling custom races like they used to be (mostly). The only difference being we choose which tech tree to use.
Email just in case.
I will. Technically, me, my brothers, and the rest of my family live in the same house hold at this time (kinda crowded) so a mailing error wouldn't cause that much problems. However you can't expect everyone who bought this game the same way I did to have the same mailing address as the person who used another's person's credit card.
I pre-ordered the game, and got the collector's edition in the mail today. You can probally guess what happened. I look at the box, read that it was from stardock. Excited like a kid at Christmas, I opened the box. I proceed to careful remove the packaging to avoid damaging the product. There nicely tucked away was a box of "Sins of a Solar Empire" -- Collector's Edition... or so it might of been had it been addressed to me!</F
...I think the GDC is a great conference. I just don't see what particular benefit it would be to go.

it's hard to justify the time to go.
Here is an evil idea. Are you still sick with your cold? If so, you could visit GDC and spread it around. You might be able to cripple the competition for a while. Be certain to introduce yourself to as many people as you can. Is that justification enough to go?
But AI coding is quite another thing. I did have some new ideas on how the AI should pick planetary improvements though while laying around.
I know the AI at one point would not replace structures (replace a factory with a lab for instance). If this problem hasn't been fixed, could you make sure that the AIs can replace structures?
By the way, are we going to get any more editors any time soon? I would like to be able to start building my custom civs I'm working on. I *will* be trying to break the thing trying to make the best custom civ that I can. ________________ Cute kid Boogie. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside looking at the picture.
So, what do you think you will create?? I'm anxious to see your ideas.
I'm going to make atleast one custom race, though I have ideas for 4 right now. I'm going to try to break the system, seeing what I can do, and can't do with the editors. I think I'm going to keep quite until I'm able to make the stuff, though I may change my mind. I have a lot to think about how to implement this stuff, but I will try to do stuff differently that what the devs did. I
I got this game back in '06 and I've been pleading (along with many others) for this ever since.
Similiar story for myself. Nothing stated in this post sounds much different than anything I've read thus far.
Where will the production come from? From Planets, of course. We already have "streaming" resources from the asteroid mechanic.
Why don't you include asteriods as a source of resources? I've mentioned using asteriods for my drydock sta
You guys probally need a break. Lets see here: -You've have been working TA beta for a few months -You've recently released Sins -You've needed to make changes to servers -Some of you have important matters to deal with (child and flu for instance) -etc. Take the rest you need. You wouldn't program well if you are trying to fight off the sniffles at the same time.
I would like to comment that the text is not actually smaller. I did a couple of print screens (I have one before changes) to compare text, and they all look the same when you compare the letters.
I never liked the 1-hp rule. It becomes an overpowered exploit where the most weapons become the most powerful defense. Isn't the role of defense modules to protect your ships, and weapons destroys opposing ships, and not to have weapons to both roles? Whats the problem with both ships destroying each other? Wouldn't have that as a rule encourage people to build ships with defenses. Isn't that what why they are there for?
After some thinking about this, I'm somewhat interested. I'm wondering, how are things going to work? I'm somewhat confused by the site's current setup. Among the items at the top, I see launch and install. Are you trying to write a program, or are you still making the site?
I guess I have to spam the forums before that happens...
Most of the Stardock games team is working on the upcoming 4X fantasy strategy game which will be turn-based and have turn-based tactical battles and support multiplayer.
About tactical battles, could you make sure that it doesn't play like Rome: TW? I hate that game so much... What I would like to be able to do is, program my armies to use the strategies I develop. If the battle is different than the last 100 battles I fought, I would be interested in fighting
I've seen references to psionic beams as if this was the ultimate offenseve weapon
I don't care for it. I don't care to take a detour to get a part that is eventually made obsolete. I choose good because it has special defense techs that provide bonuses to ship defenses (+15% defense, +5% hit points). The parts may become obsolete, but the bonuses stick around. Don't forget to build the good structure "Empathic Tactical Command Center" as it provides a +20% bonus to defen
Mega events were made for the vets of DL in mind who so good that they needed something extreme to serve as a chanlenge. The average player shouldn't be playing with them unless they want some pain, something that you got with the Jagged Knife mega-event. In case you haven't noticed, some players on these boards have a list of medals, showing their rank and history in metaverse. One of them shows the difficulty of the maps they have beaten. For many players, it shows that they've played
As far as I know, we'll keep to our standard release on Thursday schedule, so the next update would be on Thursday 02/21/08.
Thanks for the update. I'll be waiting.
There isn't going to be a beta release today. Atleast, thats what GreenReaper said to me about an hour ago when I asked about it.
I've started two games, defaults, large maps, buy scouts to search out, finding basically nothing to colonize. The maps seem small in this game compared to botf, and nothing to colonize.
1. The default ships are not that great. Try designing your own custom ships. I suggest you use a cargo hull as a base, and then install some engines, life support, and sensors. 2. I recommend that you send your ships to other stars so you can get a look at them. Alternatively, y
I see this post, so you can stop posting now... I'll get to answering your questions shortly.
@Cari: One peculiar thing I noticed when playing this weekend is that the Thalans will fill entire planets with embassys. Somehow, they still have the economic ability to dominate the game too!
You should know that tourism income has got a boost since DA, so its more possible to rely on that income.
I found them to be completely unplayable.
I find them quite powerful, in the last game I played as them, I won an influence victory before the
Pain in the butt to give new orders after each ship is built.
I suggest that you figure out what ships you want the most of, and have some of you planets build them non-stop. I don't bother to build more than a handful of different types of ships at any given time. If I design something new, its ussually to be a better version of another design. I tend to mass produce medium hulls on most of my worlds, while I leave my other planets with the task of building some
