CPU fail for no reason what so ever. Yes....But it is very rare. If you have a hundred servers running continuously over a years time, I would expect one or two failures. If the hardware is more than three years old maybe three or four failures...Even that may be an overestimate, I have three or four hundred servers at my workplace, but I haven

Can one get decent scores by playing the smaller maps and not purposely dragging out games for the simple reason of score? I see that you are playing huge maps. I played huge maps, abundant all for quite a while. I was breaking 200K in five years, but I was also dragging it out a bit. At the time, I could have probably finished most of those i

It's interesting the forced activation on install and the DRM requirements of Vista appear to have both already been hacked. Given the current Vista scenario, I can easily see "in the know" home users with legitimate copies of Vista still choosing to run the hack to get around forced activation. And since there is no benefit to an end user to run the new DRM stuff and significant disadvantages....Could this be the first version of windows where the knowledgeable users start installing multiple

Edit: I did try building all non black hole ships my last game and then attempt a massive upgrade to a maxed out black hole version after I had built a few thousand. A 47 Million BC upgrade Unfortunately, the game crashed with an exception every time I tried it. It was a bit much to expect it to work...

The earlier you build a ship, obviously the more points you will get for it. I have had good results building non-black hole ships for points....The downside is that the more ships you have the slower the game interface. Mine starts to become unmanageable somewhere between 10 and 15 thousand ships, even when they are not moving. Thus I tend to favor huge hulled ships, since I can still reach 10-15 thousand on my economy. Also, your ships get a bonus when they are in orbit around a planet, an

Hey all! Finally got another game posted. It looks like others have been posting and that we have picked up a few new members. I would like to encourage any new members to stop by over at the galactic core and introduce yourselves: http://www.thegalacticcore.com/ The gap between us and the Orca's is down to 45K and shrinking....It's looking mighty small! We are back to #1 on the altmeta as well! <img src="http

First, I am currently playing gigantic, abundant all, fastest research, suicidal. I play the Torians with all points applied to economy and population growth, industrialist party. Your strategy will need to vary some based upon your starting settings. 0) Okay, I moved this from #13 to #0: Complete this statement: "After the colony rush, the most importnant thing to focus on is..." Upgrading factories, get survey ships running, find and claim galactic resources. Priority on

I did have this problem at one point and I was never able to solve it...However, when I tried it on a different computer I had no problems at all. If you happen to have access to any other computers, try creating your character on them. After your character is created you can go back to your normal computer. Not exactly solving the problem, but it may get you around it. <img src="http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com/ranksig.php?id=7913&sty

The Galactic Diplomats (Of which I am a member) B.C. Space Orcas The High Command Hegemony Arrakis Imperium Are all fairly large and very active. Hitchhikers of the Galaxy is small, but it's players are active. The Free World Alliance just recently formed and is also looking to get on it's feet. Some of the others do have active members, but they tend to not be so post happy as the first four I listed. If you are going to be spending much

I can answer that one! I used to be a member of the Overmind empire. If you withdraw your character and join another empire, all of your characters posts are applied to the new empire.

Speaking out of turn, shouldn't be an issue. Just drop a post to that affect over at the core, so the site admins will pick it up and you should be in business in no time. And Welcome!

I have used credit a total of once...But it was in my current game. It was on the evil project build that adds 100% to your economy. I did the math out, and the short term bonus to my economy was enough extra cash that it was cheaper than waiting a few weeks to be able to buy it with cash. The only situation I have been able to find where credit made sense.

This is with my spending and taxation rate both at 51% You really want to keep the spending rate at 100% if at all possible. If, in future games, you think you are approaching the point where you may have to tick it down, reduce the number of plantery builds that cost money and put more focus on the income buildings. In addition, for yo

Such slow turn times are without doubt a consequence of having an older/slower cpu/graphics than is expectation for the developers - I suspect the former in this case as GalCiv graphics are not resource eaters as such, in that SLI is not a game pre-requisite and runs fine on "standard" video cards. A 2 min turn time stretching to 30 mins as described above is probab

I might be willing to play Gigantic maps with slow ships on DA. Not sure. I was more asking if it was even possible... The slower ships imply that there will be a lot more ships moving on the map (since it takes them a long time to cross the map) and that they will likely be going to rally points that are months away. I was trying to ask if anybody has checked game performance when you dump a few hundred or thousand ships on the map moving to half a dozen different rally points on th

True! I am planning on buying DA, because the changes to the game sound fun. I'm just hoping that it doesn't become a Tiny through Large map only game, because I would like to have both DA and big maps...
