These things have been around for a long time. The US used the "Daisy Cutter" in Vietnam to clear swaths of jungle. The idea was shelved for a time, and resurrected as the MOAB, or 'Mother of All Bombs'. Ever wonder how Saddam got the idea for 'Mother of All Wars'? He was working on one. It doesn't work in the desert, though. Too flat and breezy. The gas can't concentrate properly, so you get a big WHOOMPH!, and little else. Much like a Hollywood explosion, it is all show, with no real damage ca
is it worth your while to check your sliders each turn to make sure your allocating the minimum percentage it takes to finish a tech or a building or ship in a certain number of turns?
Oh goodness no. This game can last hundreds of turns, and micromanaging these can make you crazy. Now, some players enjoy this type of thing; squeezing out every last bc or mp in a turn. If this is your cup of tea, then knock yourself out. As for me, I tend to use broad strokes. I

Sounds like you got the Mega Event. No civ on it's own could possibly generate 200 spies. When something like this happens, reload a previous auto-save, and chances are that the game will not spawn this event twice in a row.

I have played all of the races in TA, and one thing applies to them all, and it is precisely what Piznit said: Focus on economy. It is much more difficult now to grow and maintain a robust economy. (As you know) Here are a few things that I have learned along the way, that apply to any of the races. 1) When making your racial picks, pick economy, pop growth, and morale. These have been the standard picks for awhile, and are even more useful now. You don't *have* to pick this way; in fa

Go to the foreign relations screen, and check out where you stand with the Iconians. You want no (-)'s and as many (++)'s as possible. As Autistic Angel said, you can gift tech or bc. Try setting up a trade route or two with them. That will probably put you over the top. Good luck.

As for the Yor, they are pretty close to a couple of other civs, so they may have been beaten to the punch, so to speak. The Drengin seem to have plenty of planets in their vicinity, so I don't know what to say about them. Did you tick (or forget to untick) the "randomize intellegence" box? This will generally give you a couple of 'droolers'. Did you CTRL-N? This can reset the intellegence levels as well- though I always thought that it reset all of the civs, not just a couple. Check t
You shouldn't be giving other players an advantage.
Amen. This was my one concern, so I am glad that you feel this way. I was a fan of the Diablo series, so I was more than a little excited when I heard about the Hellgate:London project. That is, until I learned that it would use a subscription system. You can play the game out of the box, with no additional cost, but if you want the *good* stuff, you have to pay. I think that it is patently unfair, and even a b

Definitely economy. Everything in this game runs on bc. You can still win if you are lagging behind in research (my usual situation), but if you neglect your economy, you are toast.

Yes, they can be a bit of a shock the first time you see them. But they can also be your knight in shining armor. If your game is going badly, the Pirates! event is one of the best possible things that can happen. Yes, they will clean you out, but they will also clean out all of the other civs. The AI doesn't deal with them very well. It will keep building ship after ship, and sending them to their doom. You don't have to do this. Just sit back and research you *ss off. Then, when you
True, but on the other hand going for an ascension victory will only affect foreign relations with - (1 crystal) or -- (2 or more crystals)
Really? Is that all? Whenever I get that second crystal, the AI goes ape. But then again, most of what I do really annoys the AI. :)

Anyone using Hughesnet satellite also has a download limit. Mine is 350 megs/day. :( There is a grace period each day; it is from 3-6 am eastern time. So, to download TA, at 347 megs, I had to wait until 2am, my time, to keep from eating my bandwidth for the day. Totally worth it, but still annoying.
Is that why Influence and Morale buildings give a +% bonus, and ARE affected by their respective bonus tiles?
lol. You're right, of course. The OP was talking about manufacturing, so my mind didn't even go there. (Very late night at work.) Good catch.

AFAIK, the espionage system hasn't changed much (if at all) since DA. It takes longer to train a spy now, because it is more difficult to generate the BC. The AI has been taught how to use it's spies more efficiently. Not that many players paid attention to this part of the game, but evidently, Frogboy did.
I'm already finding that I need to start building spies early in the game to counter the eventual espionage attacks.
Good advice. It is advisable

Hey, Verkinix. Good question; easy answer. Any improvement that gives a +(points) will receive the bonus. Any improvement that gives a +(%) will not. A factory will receive the bonus, a manufacturing capital, or power plant will not. As for the wonders, they are a case by case basis, but the basic rule still applies. Some are more adaptable than others. The Thalan achievement "Hyperion Matrix" gives a +(points) to pop, manufacturing, and research. You can place this one on any of the three types

Open SDC. Go to the Games tab. After a moment or two, it should show a list of games available for download. Highlight TA, and a download button should show. Click this, and off you go. Note that there may be more than one module to download. (At work now, so I can't see if TA is being handled any differently). There could be a movie module, multimedia, etc. You will want to download all of these. Also, make sure that you UNtick 'show pre-release versions'. It is also a good idea to tick the arc
If theres no time limit; then have our spies to do the dirty work and send them to assassinate and frame one of the allied group (more complicated, but it can work through a revamped espionage system).
Funny you should mention this. The espionage system is due a revamp in 2.0, and I believe that one of the new uses for spies is to destabilize diplomatic relations. So just wait awhile, and you may get your wish.
Easier is to just move a bunch of transports next to Krynn worlds. They will eventually declare war on you... and no need to mess with the Iconians at all.
Yep. You can also push the matter a little more by bullying the Krynn; demand tech and/or bc, and build influence starbases in their territory. Also, what was your alignment? If you are good, then the other good civs will be much more likely to come to your aid. This is still a crapshoot though, since the oth

The population figure that you see is the *taxpaying* population. You can look at it this way: When a planet is conquered, the society is thrown into turmoil, industry and jobs are lost, and the citizens are no longer able to pay taxes. As time goes by, these citizens are integrated into the new society, and begin to pay taxes again. This is a gentler way of looking at this mechanic. Of course, this is just a matter of perception. If you are playing as the Korath, and want to picture t
Has anyone else had issues with Paypal? Or is it easy to sign up once, and then cancel the account once i've done what I needed to with it?
I have had a PayPal account for some time. Once you have your account set up, it is easy to use, and quite secure. You can cancel at any time, if you choose, but it is easiest to leave your account open, since it is likely that you will want to use it again.
