Debug Message: Game Resolution: 1024 x 768
You need to change the resolution *in the game* to 1440x900. I don't think that this is your problem, but you should really run the game at the same resolution as your monitor. I think that Kryo is correct. Check the drivers available at http://www.tweakforce.com/ If you have GF 7600 GO (laptop) and Windows Vista look there for "Xtreme-G Mobile 163.67 Vista 32bit" Good luck.

Good review. He seems to have a pretty good handle on the new pack. It's unfortunate that I wasn't able to comment on the article. If I had been, then I would have let them know about the obvious (to a player) mistake: the race that they refer to in the preface is the Altarians, not Arceans.
I have an Athlon 3200+ XP - will i be able to enable it?
I have that same processor. The Barton is one of the better single cores out there, so you should be fine.
How much does the option affect gameplay? Is it much harder with this option enabled?
I honestly can't say. This option came out with a number of other changes, and the game has changed even further since. Not meaning to be 'flip, but try it and see for yourself.
inhabitable planets
I assume that you mean habitable planets.
does that mean there will be approximately x planets in the galaxy, guaranteed?
No, this means that there will be precisely 'x' number of habitable planets. The settings that you choose when starting the game will determine the number of habitable planets. For example: If you choose a tiny galaxy with one opponent, and no minors, you will get 9 habitable planets every time. Any
Are we talking an extra 20-30 seconds per turn for the comp when AI is maxed... roughly?
Not necessarily. Remember, the AI processes it's turn while you are taking yours. This has been the case since the game was in OS/2. IIRC, it was the first game to do this. So, there shouldn't be any noticeable slowdown, unless, perhaps, you are simply clicking the end turn button repeatedly without doing anything else in between. Even then, I haven't noticed much of any difference in
An interesting adaptation on the part of the AI to shake things up for it's own survival.
This would be interesting, but it was probably one of those random events that just happened to trigger at a serendipitous moment for the Torians. If not, then I would hve to argue that this is a cheat. The AI shouldn't be allowed to change the rules midstream in order to give itself an advantage. I doubt that this is so, however. I'm on board with the idea that the good civ

The only way to gain experience is through combat. When you upgraded to a warship, it (presumably) hadn't yet gotten into a fight, and so therefore has 0 XP. The anomaly increases the amount of experience gained, so in theory your ship should level up faster, if it survives. I haven't noticed much difference in my games after finding one of those, so the effect must be fairly small. But then again, I usually play in rare galaxies, and don't find many of that particular anomaly. I'm not
the latest beta, sometimes gets cranky and crashes the game if you repeatedly ctrl-N.
Not just the latest beta. The last couple have exhibited some interesting behaviors. A couple of games back, the game disabled ALL of my opponents. I won that game on turn 1 with an influence victory, (and a score of 0). :)

Hello Lord Judge, Welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear about your inability to update. I can understand the reasoning behind not giving access to the internet, though. (We don't want any filthy traitor feeding our secrets to the Drengin, do we?) ;) There is a way to update without an internet connection. We'll need to at least know the game you are playing. Is it Dread Lords, or Dark Avatar? The version really isn't important, since we already know that it is out of date. I'm quite bu
The Torians, Altarians, and Arceans" isn't necessarily a typo
What that comma does is keep the three subjects as separate entities. *With* the comma, you have: Torians/Altarians/Arceans. *Without* the comma you have: Torians/Altarians and Arceans.
Firstly, a further apology for the paragraph formatting not showing up in my original post.
No prob, bro. We've all done this before. (At least I have; I use Firefox also.) Frogboy's stated goal has always been to make the AI at least as capable as a human player. He's pretty good at what he does, and very persistent, so I fully expect that at some point, perhaps ~GC3, that we can expect the Drengin to attempt to gift us with a Trojan Glerx. ;) <

Any organism, and thus any civilization's ultimate goal is survival. In this game, you have to expand in order to survive. The Altarians, or any other 'good' civ will do whatever they have to do to insure the safety and prosperity of their people. They may feel bad about it afterwards, but they *would* do it; and I'm willing to bet that you would also.

"I read something recently where many scholars are beginning to think that "The Prince" was actually intended to be a oblique criticism of the people in power duirng Machiavelli's lifetime" Machiavelli was fishing for a job at the time, so 'The Prince' is actually the most extensive and well-written resume in history. (He didn't get the job, BTW).

I'm not sure that it is possible at this point to program an AI to act in such a way as he proposes. Putting out the 'glad hand' while simultaneously preparing for war is just too complicated an undertaking for the AI to 'understand'. Things get even more complicated from there. Friendly relations are very valuable in this game. They bring trade, treaties, mutual defense pacts, as well as just not having to worry about being attacked by that civ. The AI would have to balance the advantages of

How did this turn into a discussion of the movies? Actually, I wouldn't mind a bit more of the personal touch, i.e., "I love you Sarge." Now that I have said that, may I steer this thread back on topic. Well written, FB. I assume that this is the setup for a new scenario. I like it. When the TA immense galaxies were introduced, the first game I set up was an immense/rare. It gives the most 'realistic' view of things, IMO. Vast distances to travel, very few useful resources of any kind

Sir Arthur C. Clarke died yesterday. He was a brilliant author and futurist. He will be missed. ...and when he shall die, Take him and cut him into little stars, And he will make the face of Heaven so fine, That all the world will fall in love with night, And pay no worship to the garish sun.
not-Mom will have multiplayer, it'll just be a different game at multiplayer. I'm not willing to cut out features on the single player version and I'm too old and cranky to compromise on that.
Huzzah! I was a little concerned that you might be forced to dumb it down for the masses. I'm not much of a MP fan myself, for the myriad reasons already stated, but the idea of being able to play against some of the smart and talented members of this forum has me sold.
