Ok. The filesizes are posted for any new purchase, which is good, but what I am really talking about are the updates to the already purchased games. There is no way (that I know of) to see the size of those files. Any audio or video file that I download from the net almost always states the size of the file ahead of time, and if it doesn't, the download manager will tell me. Not so, SDC. I should think that it would be a fairly straightforward matter to state the size of the various parts of t

Thank you, Kryo. I don't have SDC installed at my work computer, but I will try this when I get home.

It would be nice if the filesizes for the various updates were posted along with them. There are many of us who have download limits on our internet connections, and it can be quite frustrating when downloading a series of large update files to run into that wall. I use, by necessity, HughesNet satellite, which has a limit of 350 megs in a 24 hr period. The last update was interrupted just as TA was starting to download, so I had to wait 24 hrs before I could resume the download and play the ga
is the game skewed to reflect a more hostile environment is preferable to obtain a victory?
Unfortunately, yes. This is the game's fatal flaw. Stardock teaches us that when your neighbor's poodle poops in your yard, it is preferable to kick in his door and cut his throat, rather than talking it out. When the game was first released, it was (slightly) more difficult to win a conquest victory than any of the other victory conditions, and

Last night I was playing a tiny/rare game; 1 opponent, me -Drengin, they- Terran. I sent an escorted transport to Terra, on autopilot. A couple of turns later, I noticed that they were moving at a crawl. Kona and Terra are practically next door to each other, yet it took 12 turns for my ships to arrive. When they did arrive, I could only attack one single time per turn, each turn, so this may be more related to incorrect movement points rather than a straight speed issue. Btw, these were standar
Doesn't DA has a research and a building that will remove and stop any spy attacks on the planet that build it? I think it may be right after the Trade tech?
Yes. I believe it's called the 'Counter-Espionage Center'. Unfortunately, you can only build one of these, and it only effects the planet that it is built on.

Hi Cari. I just sent along an e-mail with a screenshot of the same thing. I am playing Beta 4- I don't remember seeing this in B3. The planet in question for me was Thala, so it isn't just a custom race problem, although it might be somewhere in the settings. (I did tweak the colors) I was going to send a savegame also, but when I loaded it up, the graphic was normal, so for me at least, quitting the game and reloading fixed the problem. Hope this helps. If you are looking for better planetary graphics, download LogicSequence's "High-Resolution Graphics Mod", found in the Galactic Library.

A civ won't list all of it's techs in the trade window. This is fairly easy to see when you have reached a high level of espionage with them, and compare what you find with what is offered in the trading window. So, it is very possible that the Drengin possess those techs, and just aren't showing them. Then again, who knows, it could very well be a bug.
an expensive pointless contest of who can spend the most on spys in a an economy that has already been squeezed to the limit.
I'm not unsympathetic to your point of view. This can become quite irritating, if you let it. The trick is, not to let yourself get sucked into that endless loop of spy vs. spy. Play smarter. It's ironic that this topic is here now, because I am experiencing this very thing in my current game. Here is the situation, and what I am going to do abo
I think there are lots of things that can be done to expand the diplomacy aspect of the game
Here here. This was one of the most interesting aspects of the game, and it has, in my opinion, been neglected to near death. As a matter of fact, other aspects of the game have been enhanced, or nerfed, to the point where diplomacy is an inconsequential factor. This game has been evolving for quite some time now. At one point or other in it's history, these buildings were actually useful. But the game has been tweaked and changed, balanced and rebalanced, and these structures have been supplanted in importance by others.

I think I am running into the same error. When I press the turn button, it permanently disappears. It is similar to what it does when the computer is thinking, but the turn button stays gone. I can access all of the menues, and I can launch ships from planets, but if I attempt to move a ship, I get the message the game gives when a ship is out of life support range. I have reloaded previous auto-saves, but when I reach the turn where the error occured, it always happen

The game played well for quite awhile, then certain of my ships stopped responding to commands, (move/attack/upgrade). Clicked the turn button, and the game stopped. I could still move within the game; turn the pages, etc, but the game would never move over to the next turn. Well spoken, Vamphaery. Stardock has earned my respect as well as my continuing support. Here I thought that GC was pretty much done, when I learn that there are at least two more updates on the way, as well as an expansion pack. I'm not much of a fantasy gamer, but I am definitely going to buy their next game, if for no other reason than the fact that they have earned my trust.

I agree with the OP that fleeting defending ships is a matter of common sense. I'm not opposed to having to research the ability, but once researched, it should be applied to every planet in the empire, not just the one. Also, and this is a very important also; it should be optional whether or not to use the skill on a planet by planet basis. Sometimes it is best NOT to use it. I am always glad when I come across a planet that is using this. Why? Because it means that I will be able to take th
