I would have thought the Iconians have hooves. They remind me of horses. They're kind of cute really.

Just update it and play. Lots of options in the setup menus so you'll want to go through those. I haven't read anything indicating regular updates will discontinue or become less frequent. The expansion pack is coming, but that's an add-on, not an update. Don't know if we'll see a regular update beforehand or not. The game is very flexible and lots of its mechanics are specified in xml files which can be modified with a standard text editor. Also, many of the graphics are c
I think LAN play is what people are most interested in. I can totally understand the desire for that, you know, a few buddies get together for a night of GC2. Internet MP would be something totally different.
I don't wanna play MP. I can beat the AI. I'd get my butt handed to me by you hotshots.
Hey, I resemble that remark
The game doesn't care what a planet looks like when it assigns a quality to it. One time I had a high PQ planet appear as a tiny little thing. Other times I've had low PQ planets appear very large. It's just a thing with the game.
Clear your raceconfig files as stated previously. Races get "free" bonuses in certain areas so you should expect to see those after a reset. You can change or clear the free bonuses by selecting a value for them, but don't do that. They're supposed to be there.
I've had production levels fail to update on occasion as well. Restarting the game corrects them.
I saw the box in Walmart and went, "Oooh, shiney". So, I bought it All kidding aside, it's nice to have the box, makes you feel like you got something. Also, there's a really nice tech poster in the boxed version that has come in handy a few times. Otherwise, you're not really saving yourself any hassle. With the boxed version, you still need to D/L the latest version so it's not downl
I normally run with all victory conditions disabled except military conquest. Although, in my current game, I wish I had alliance victory enabled because I'd like to end it right now, but I'm stuck with military conquest all the way. I do sometimes drag a game out a little because I like to realize my full potential regardless of how I'm doing compared to the other races. But, as previously stated, that can get boring. Even so, it can be hard to resist.
I used to play an online TBS game years ago that did work well in that environment. The way it worked is you got a certain number of turns you could play each day. It was independant of what others were doing and they would regenerate hourly. The pace was set by the host of the game. It would get really interesting when two or more players were playing out their turns at the same time, especially during battles. If GC2 was set up to operate that way, I could see where it would work. Though
Yea, that's true, strategies can vary widely depending on map size, difficulty level, total number of habitable planets, and number of races. In any case, economy is pretty much at the center of what's going on in the beginning of any game. It's something you really have to strategize. But, that's good, it's a fun part of the game.
The AI gives you lots of warning by declaring war before attacking anything. Maybe there should be no advance warning at all. In other words, no indication of war until they do something hostile like kill a starbase or invade a planet.
I don't really understand how multplayer would work in this game. I assume everyone would have to finish their turn before you could take the next? What if someone drops out or takes a really long time to finish their turn. That means you're always waiting on others. Doesn't sound like much fun to me.
If the Terrans were allied with two other races, then attacking them would put you in a state of war with three races. So, can you beat them all? Give it a try, if you lose, you lose. No big deal. Play a new game.
Motherboards are cheap. You'll spend less on a good motherboard than a set of memory modules. Dual channel memory provides a 20% increase in memory throughput. You want a motherboard supporting that first. Then get a good set of matched modules. Buy name brand memory like Corsair, Mushkin, etc. You don't need to waste money on a huge amount of memory. I'm running 1GB total with no problems. That's probably a little low. 2GB should be fine if it's within your price range. BIOS s
Yea, there's an economic hump you have to get over that's dependent on tax level, population, and morale. To get over it faster, I use the 70% population bonus obtained during race setup. Also, factories and other buildings cost money to build and maintain so you can't fully develop every planet you claim right away. Your costs will surpass your ability to make money. The main thing it to grab as many planets as you can and build only as many as your economy will support. Once you get over
Yea, I think the biggest arguable change is the morale buildings. The change to farm bonuses is probably not so significant. I'd like to see a pole regarding that specific change. Obviously, I feel it was a bad idea. In my case, I went from a strategy that inlcuded the use of morale buildings to one that does not use them at all.
The beatings will continue until morale improves I've had the I-league event happen several times. The population growth bonus does help a lot. Later in the game when you need to fill transports like crazy, it's not too hard to run high taxes and keep morale in the green. Early in the game, when morale is tough, I tend to run it in the yellow, just above the red. I think some people
As far acceptable language for children on this board, I think that gray expletives should be ok. I mean, most mothers would probably not be upset with saying, "what the hell". A few might, but you can't please everyone.
At Masochistic with all 9 races enabled at incredible intelligence, it's all you can do to keep the out of the pandomonium that is the universe. At low difficulty levels, the AI is pretty retarded, which is good if you're learning the game, but not if you're looking for action. For that, you need to play at a high difficulty level with all races enabled and "randomize intelligence" unchecked. You want them all at the smartness your difficulty level sets.
Core ships are horrible to motivate you to use the ship designer which is the way the game is intended to be played. For me, I research engines up to Impulse Mark II and Missles up to Stinger III right away. I tend to trade for defenses and life support since they're usually pretty cheap.
All you need is a push in the right direction. There's so many strategies that work, you really have to find your own. It's like learning a lot of things, people can tell you how to do it, but inevitably, you have to find what works for yourself. A person could defintely write a whole book on the subject. It's more than just a game, it's a complete environment.
I think there should be a "clear user ships" and "clear all ships" option in the game's setup menu. I clear my ships before every game. It's kind of a pain, would be nice if the game could do that on the fly.
The economy is tougher in 1.3. Did it improve the game? I think it did not. Games are simply harder and longer now. I can still do the same things I was doing in 1.2, it just takes longer. Sorry to say, I feel 1.2 was a more rewarding and enjoyable game (less the annoying bugs of course, but 1.3 has some new annoying bugs). For better or worse, I don't think it's a good idea to attempt large changes to game mechanics this long after the game's initial release. If the game is "off
