Writing off the jobs and lively hood of 700 people because they wanted some rights and a safe work environment with that comment and the tung sticking out I found highly offensive. And typical of anyone that is not effected. I once worked for a startup company where I was the engineer that was single-handedly responsible for the design of the hardware that was the core of their product. The company was in business for a bit less than two years but during the last year of the company's existence I spent 59 straight 16 hour plus days getting the product ready to show at Infocom and then a few months later I spent another 71 straight 16 hour plus days getting the product ready to ship. 2 weeks later I ha
From what I've heard there are many problems with FF 4. This is what I get with FF 3.6.17. Perhaps you should downgrade to FF 3.6.17?

A metaverse game is still a single player game but it's essentially a "ranked" game that get
I know that there are many others out there that pass by now and again so I'll take the liberty of bumping this up every so often to make sure every one sees it.
Mumblefratz, did you try different browsers? I very recently had the identical problem and was able to change my email through joeuser.com "My Account".
I tried Joe User, Wincustomize, GalCiv2 and Elemental. It seems that I'm no longer able to change the email address that's associated with my account. There used to be a number of different ways to access your account information and based on the method of access there were different things you could do. For example you used to be able to view and edit pretty much all your account information from within the Metaverse area (http://metaverse.galciv2.com/) under Account > Manage My Account, but while the pulldown menu ent
It's nice to see a few lost souls check in. It won't take much to keep this thread going given the limited traffic. Just an occasional post by a few people would be enough. Good to hear from all of you. GW, yeah I know that Impulse was sold off and the forum no longer exists here but I'm just going on my old impression of how the forums have devolved. Call it literary license. I did eventually install Impulse and update my games to the latest versions as fa
Like the title says, I'd like to open this thread as a place where all former, current and future GC2 players can check in and talk about whatever interests them. Not to slight those still currently involved with the game but these forums are really just a shadow of what they used to be. To me they were my first introduction into what an online community actually could be. Back in the day a thread was lucky to stay on front page of the most recent 50 posts for more than 15 minutes
These days I've gotten into the habit of deleting all saved data every single time I close my browser. I set it up in both FF and IE8 to do it automatically. I also have an option in my security suite to clear all browser cache and all other system temp data when I shut down my computer and I enable that as well. Also I disable all of the form completion data logging (other than passwords). I also do not accept third party cookies at all. The only thing I allow to persist
Actually GC2 is pretty much dead as well. The GC2 forums are linked in to all of Stardocks 12 or so forum sites and so there's a bit more traffic on the site itself but as far as those people that are still playing the game it's very small. Very sad really.
Advancement in technology is one of humanity's great hopes.
I stopped trying to keep up with the bleeding edge of technology in 1996 after I bought a Pentium Pro @200 MHz with a 1MB L2 cache. I paid $1,000 for the processor alone. I kept that PC untill 1999 when I wanted to run Direct X applications which were unbearably slow. Since then I've found that the best thing to do is when you're forced to upgrade for one performance reason or another is to buy the most reasonab
Is that strat one that some scoremonsters would [c]all an exploit/bug?
Not really since scoremonsters don't bother to invade planets. Using an effective but highly damaging invasion tactic with the number of troops limited so that it's guaranteed to fail but also guaranteed to soften up the planet for the "real" invasion *is* totally sensible. Back when I did invade planets I'd then follow up with mini-soldiers to actually take the planet with no permanent damage.</
Only one copy of the PM is kept in the database. If it is deleted, it is also deleted from the sent folder of the person who sent it (since it is technically the same row in the database).
That explains it then. However if there's only one copy of the PM in the database then it must also work the other way where if the sender deletes his "copy" then it's also deleted from the Inbox of the recipient. I guess if you want to save something from a PM then you need to
Mumblefratz, yes, I suspect it occurs if the recipient deletes a PM he has not opened/read. The 'retained copy' is also deleted from the DB.
Do you know if this is true? If an unread PM is deleted by the sender does the recipient still get it or not? I guess in my case the question is, is there any linkage between PM's sent by one person and received by another? Could intentional deletion by one cause the undesired deletion for the other? If so i
Mumblefratz, yes, I suspect it occurs if the recipient deletes a PM he has not opened/read. The 'retained copy' is also deleted from the DB.
No most of these PM's had in fact been read many weeks earlier and in fact had later replies to them that were not deleted.
I've seen this in the last week or so where PM's I've sent in response to ones I have received just disappear without me deleting them. Is this a known issue/problem with the PM system or do I have a problem on my side?
I've had the exact same thing occur. I had perhaps 30 PM's in my Inbox and another 20 in my Sent messages folder so I was nowhere near the limit of 100 PM's. Also if it makes a difference I was and still am using IE7 on XP Pro SP3.
I wonder why they haven't done it. It would also be nice if the colony would only expend the necessary MP to build a particular ship in the quickest number of weeks rather than all of it's capacity no matter what you're building.
But I almost never reload, but I see it all the time.
What I described above is the only thing like this that I've heard of. That doesn't mean that some other bug, about which I don't know, possibly rev dependent, hasn't been introduced somewhere along the line. All I can speak to is what I've experienced myself.
I was just hoping that there was a way to build as many ships as my spending/manufacturing capacity could afford. After all, if a colony is capable of 2,
I've not heard of the AI building multiple ships per turn but I have heard of the AI being able to rush buy multiple buildings per turn and there's no real difference between being able to purchase buildings and being able to purchase ships. This is a very old "bug" but it's just as easily considered a "documented feature". This should only be able to happen when you've done a save/reload during the same turn. You can avoid this effect by not saving and reloading so often however
