Here's the Debug Error file. Before copying and pasting this I attempted to load a saved game and it crashed as usual. I've updated to 1.8(a) and updated my graphics card driver to the latest available to no avail. I am still unable to load a saved game without a crash to Windows. The odd thing is that this never occurred prior to the later versions of the 1.7 beta. I wonder if this has something to do with the limit on the number of planets. In any event, the game has become unplayable for me. I submitted the smart exception files from a previous game in which this occurred.
I misumderstood you PolarHki. My crash occurs when trying to load the game. I've updated drivers etc to no avail. I am unable to load saved games.
I've been having the same problem ever since the later versions of the 1.7 Beta. I am now using Version 1.8a, and the crash just occurred. This is a hard crash to Windows. I always start a new game when I download a new version, and this game was no exception. Nonetheless, the problem continues. I can only conclude the problem is related to something else. I did not have this problem on previous versions of the game-ever. Pretty well makes the game unplayable. I just submitted the Zippe
This attribute has been present in all previous versions to my knowledge. As the poster above notes, the "overwrite" command does not always work correctly.
There's a 1.8? My internet connection has been down for the last day or so. I'll check Stardock.
I now have to say that the latest beta appears to have some major flaws. I am experiencing regular crashes that I've never had on any previous versoin. Those other crashes have been reported elsewhere. The latest was the "giant ship of flickering death." It was during a turn change and one of my fleets, which had been set on an intercept course in prior turns, engaged a Krynn fleet. Instead of a battle, the game froze with a massive icon of a Krynn fighter flickering over half the screen.
The saved games were not from previous Beta Versions. They stated as Beta 1.7(d) (or "4," whichever you prefer) and ended that way. As for the "out of memory error," wouldn't that crash the game itself? If so, then I had no such errors because the game ran smoothly with no crashes whatsoever prior to the attempted reloads. In fact, each of the games exhibiting this crash had been saved and reloaded several times without crashing before it finally did so.
I am playing beta version 1.7(d). When trying to load advanced games, i.e., games that have been going for a while, the game has consistently been crashing. This has never occurred when loading a new game, only loading saved games. It also has not occurred when loading rather new saved games. I get the standard Windows crash pop-up with the option to send a report of the incident. I will send the Smar Exception Files.
I am using 1.7 Beta(4), but I believe I saw this in previous versions of the beta. When the Dread Lords enter the game, rather than colonizing an uninhabited planet, they start on a planet previously inhabited by a minor race (in my last game it was the home world of the Dark Yor). Further, at least one of the minor race's ships remains in orbit around the planet. Finally, although they do not appear anywherer on the map, one can still contact and have relations with the minor race, but the s
I've played hundreds of turns on the largest galaxy size on "Crippling" difficulty level with nine opponents and have fought very large and lengthy wars involving dozens and dozens of large fleet battles first against the Yor and then against the Drengin (very large fleet battles) without reloading or restarting. I've encountered no problems, except one minor one: when space miners run out of asteroid mines to improve, they display text below them stating "string not found" and simply stop. A
I've now played hundreds of turns without a single crash. All has ran smoothly.
I've played through well over a hundred turns without any crashes so far, which was never possible for me with the previous 1.7 beta. It appears that the main crash issue has been repaired, for me anyway.
I think this has always been the case. I have no recollection of min-soldiers ever destroying anything.
I'm far from an "authority" on this "issue," but it has been my experience that an AI, even one with whom I have relatively good relations, will declar war on me if I start building up significant forces inside its territory anywhere close to its planets. I just had it happen by accident in a game where I mistakenly let a single transport stray into enemy territory and it got too close to a planet. It seems to me that upping the AI's sensitivity to having another player military assetts within
To follow up on my last message, another minor glitch that is popping up (in fact I don't think it ever actually went away in previous versions) is that mass driver weapons do not appear to fire at the ship being targeted. Although the enemy ship is damaged, the weapons graphic appears to be firing wildly and just as often at my own ships. Although the game is functional, this is annoying. I hope it can be fixed once and for all.
While I'm nearly certain this has been reported elsewhere, the Beta has taken the game from a very stable platform to a regularly crashing every twenty or thirty turns (on my machine anyway). I will post submit the exception logs etc to the developers. Another issue I notice that may or may not be a real "issue" is that the Peacekeepers no longer work as advertised or as they did during the last non-beta version of the game. Previously, they really did only attack ships outside of one'
I have never noticed any effect whatsoever. I've seen it come up fairly early in the game and often times that civ is wiped out several hundred turns down the road. In fact, it comes up in almost every game I play. I've always been of the opinion it is either nonfunctional or is a trick meant to prod you into a war you wouldn't otherwise pick.
I have noticed this as well, but it also occurred in previous versions of the game. I thought it was corrected but seems to have arisen in the latest version of DA. My casual observation has been that it is not consistent in that it does not occurr in every combat and only occurrs with Mass Driver type weapons.
I'm unsure if this is a "bug" per se, but I've noticed that the technology Subspace Annihlator is not available to install on ships. I'm able to research the tech, but once researched there is no option for the weapon on the ship design screens. I am running Version 1.6.
Thanks for the information.
No cargo hulls. I've used both medium and large hulled ships. All were in full repair and fairly heavily armed and armored relative to the stage of the game.
I have the Beta 5 version of Dark Avatar and have encountered what may or may not be a bug. In the game, the Dread Lords have entered. I have destroyed most of their fleet. However, they have a dreadnought still left that appears to be invulnerable. I have launched literally dozens of attacks against it and reduced it to zero hit points multiple times but the ship does not die. Moreover, once it is reduced to zero and I attack it with a fleet, only one of my ships even fires and it does not
Thanks for the tip. I read part of that thread and believe my problem is similar to that reported in the thread involving large stacks of ships disappearing. The Iconians, before their defeat, had large stacks of ships inside their territory. This seems to be what is being reported by the other players in the thread in which the link for the 1.6 Beta Patch is located.
I've now had another game with the disappearing fleet problem. This is a recurring problem with fleets becoming invisible. This is the first time it caused a crash. What happened was that a computer player was defeated and some of its ships were given to the remaining players. Many of those ships no longer showed up on the map, except when one zoomed out and they showed up as fleet or ship icons. In at least one instance it appears the ships did not even show up when zooming out because a s
