Let me start by saying the beta is progressing nicely. I've also submitted the debug error and saved game files for the following "bugs" I'm about to point out. First, I note that the Torians had Warp Drive IV almost from the beginning of the game. I doubt that's intended-it is a major unbalancing occurrence that early in the game. Secondly, I'm still having the ship update crash. It occurs when I try to update a previously designed ship-usually a design created in a previous game. My reco

I've always thought this might be an interesting feature. After all, fighting a battle very well might consume more energy than just moving through space. Perhaps the amount of movement lost can be directly correlated to how long the battle lasts, the strength of the enemy's weapnos (and thus their effect on your ships) and how much energy your own ships expend in that battle through weapons use and tactical maneuvering.
and going back to a previous q....if you spy on your own planet why does the output vary from what you see on your planet screen?
Perhaps I'm uninformed, but you can spy on your own planet? Why would you?
I have seen the cruddy Drengin Super Dominator Corvettes go invisible in the latest build. Three attacked an Arcean ship, and one was destroyed. The remainder of the fleet actually went invisible during the battle. I was watching from zoom level 2.
Yeah, unfortunately I've noticed it again as well. Lots and lots of them. I still can't figure out why they build so many even when they obviously have better designs (all the other ones that aren't invisible). I guess they
I've certainly noticed very fast AI ships quite early in the game. Have not made a direct observation of the engine type being used though.
I still like the idea of having the Minors united into a non-aligned confederation and then once they assume that united identity giving them a generic AI. This could be a random super event set to take place, if at all, sometime in the early mid-game when majors are starting to research and implement the planetary invasion series of techs. Suddenly having a new power in the galaxy (without it being some power that comes from nowhere like the Jagged Knife, pirates and Dread Lords) could signif
I'm hoping that this is a sign that the particle beam tech is still a work in progress and that future versions will exhibit substantially more differentiation with the Plasma weapons techs. Of course, since I've yet to use plasma weapons in 2b, for all I know they are already substantially different.
They probally don't want organics to join them, but they might want their planets.
But when you culture flip a planet the gameplay result is that you get the planet's entire population, which as we seem to have agreed, the Yor would not want.
I've seen this as well in the latest TA Beta on larger maps playing the Terrans. Seems to occur randomnly.
I've put my TA games on hold until this is fixed -- too many research buildings draining my economy without any benefits.
Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of beta testing? Anyway, I've observed the research coordinator bug as well. It also appears to apply to the Tech Capital but have not tested this in repeat games. The Omega Research Center (Super Project), also appears nonfunctional. There are several other non-tech related buildings and/or Super Projects t
It appears as though many of the buildings that increase or benefit something by a percentage do not function. I've noticed that the Research Coordinator, Stellar Forge, Tech Capital, and the Omega Research Center do not appear to actually give any benefit. I haven't closely checked the Manufacturing Capital and Economic Capital yet. That being said, in my last game I captured the Carinoid world and it had two Economic Capitals constructed there. I've never seen that happen in any game.
Are people having problems with the new fleet icons? I invade a planet, fail to win, yet the transport still shows up graphically.
I've seen this. Also the numbering below the fleets indicating how many ships are there is inaccurate after a battle when one loses ships. Based on an email from the Devs, I believe this has been fixed for the next version.
Mac3411- That unnamed tech has been fixed as mentioned by CodeCritter in a different thread.
Thanks for the information. Guess that'll appear in the next version. Another couple of potential bugs I've noticed are that (a) the Stellar Forge does not appear to grant any bonus to a race that captures it from the Arceans (haven't played Arceans so don't know if they get the bonus); and (b) The Rsearch Coordination Center does not seem to be granting any bonus. My
I've seen this in Beta2B. Have not seen any invisible Drengin ships yet though. Those were appearing in great numbers in the previous versions of the TA Beta.
I had an occurrence when conquering a minor race planet. I captured a technology. Unfortunately, the tech was undescribed, had no name and provided me no benefit. In the dialog box stating I had captured the tech, it merely stated I had captured the "technology." Afterwards, in the trade tech dialog box, I could click on and select a blank space in my tech list and trade it or give it to alien races. No idea what it was.
I would like to see Particle Beams made more unique rather than appearing and sounding just like Plasma weapons.
Sure it hadn't been traded to them?
Could have been. Regardless, that doesn't happen often either.
add to playing the torians: building a tech capital didn't work? (no 100% for me) also, opening the planet window has the default tile view on a blank green screen. is this right? looks a little wrong to me.
I noticed the same problem with the Tech Capital for the Terrans in TA Beta 2A.
In TA perhaps we can have one race develop bonuses for missle weapons but lack any true laser weapons. One race might have only 1 universal defense tree, that if built and exapnded on can add a defensive score to all 3 (shields, point def, Armor) all with one attachment. Weapons...perhaps the Yor may not have "lasers" as such but could be renamed with something off the wall. The final weapon unlock on the tree could be unique to each race as well, giving different
maybe one of the major races gave/traded them a colony ship
That's possible. Still, in the past I've seen a Carinoids colony ship warp around the map right past Class 10 planets without ever colonizing anything.
In my current game of TA Beta 2, I actually found a Jessuin's colony in a star system neighboring its home planet. First time I've ever seen that. It was way too early for them to have already developed planetary invasion so they didn't get it that way.
6. Changes to race abilities are not being carried over from game to game. Each new game I'm back to 10 picks and note that the additional abilities I "saved" to the other races are not saved either. Does this happen only in tournament games?
I've only played sandbox games. No tournaments unless I fundamentally misunderstand the meaning of that term.
I'll agree that in the TA Betas thus far (through version 2), tech rates seem to be accelerated. I believe that the costs need to be increased across the board or one or two even slower research rates offered. Even on higher difficulty ratings (tough and above) with the research rate set on "very slow," I now routinely research the entire tree-every last technology, whether needed or not-including the techs that don't currently function. I don't even bother building warships before I reach at
The devs have stated that Particle beams have not yet been activated (unintentionally it seems). The tech does not have applications for Terrans either.
I agree with the original post that research costs need to be increased. I researched the entire tree in one game with little effort despite the dificulty setting being on "painful" and the research setting being on "very slow." Perhaps there needs to be a "painfully slow" research setting to really slow things down. It takes a great deal from the game when I don't even bother using the earlier weapon types and instead go straight for the doom ray or demon torpedo.
