Yes it does. All the upgraded core ships have more space than they should. Makes making a new design from scratch a bit pointless. Bear in mind that the actual functionality of the core ships is not actually linked with their appearance. So they may graphically have more colony modules, constructors, weapons, etc, than they actually do. You can rest assured that there's no actual space advantage (they're all defined using the
Reading this thread it sounds like way too much focus is on 'surviving' the economy by having to rush for high-end economy buildings. While they help a lot and are a valid tactic, the point of the game is that I'm not railroaded into a single method of playing the game. For the same reason I don't like the Thalans, being forced to do certain things a certain way just makes it feel like a clunky, boring RTS game

I still like my military starbase = static defense idea. Fast ships can blast right through before it is your turn to have the starbase attack, but woe be unto he who falls short :)
Thank you for explicitly stating my objection for me, then. If starbases were armed and armored on anything like the scale your new analogy would suggest, they would be completely indestructable once built. No possible fleet, even of ultimate weapon huge hulls, would be able to destroy such a starbase. Exactly how many tank shells would be needed to sink the Bismark?
Except this Bismark doesn't do a damn thing except slap you when you go up and kick it in the ass first. S
Starbases are about 200x larger than a Huge Hull ship. Given that they have no guidance or propulsion systems, and given how ENORMOUS they are, they should not only be able to take withering amounts of firepower, but they should certainly and realistically be able to sport more weapons, more POWERFUL weapons, and much, MUCH stronger defenses. We're seriously comparing a city to a tank. Couple points here: Yes, ships

Since I don't care about the metaverse, let me say that that's both ridiculous, stupid, and absurd, at the same time.
IMO its the AIs mistake to even be attacking the things. I haven't lost a starbase in, I'd say somewhere between my last 30 to 50 games. You should never be in a position where they get attacked. Conversely, if a starbase has even more than about a +40 to its attack I just go around them. You can't put enough in a sector to even block an attack to one planet, forget about stopping a dedicated fleet. It would be the Maginot Line all over again... Look at my +100/+100/+100 starbase yo
As I imagine, huge hulled ships are at least the same size as starbases.
WRONG.
I could refer to history... No fortress has ever been able to survive for eternity, some day, every fortress has been taken/destroyed, at least I don't remember any which hasn't. I doubt, it would be that much fun, taking out an AI "super-starbase" requiring huge fleets, and that thing even survives a capital assault. But I would like to see the AI defending their SBs heavily. Still, the major issues is, what to do on >huge maps, where that many enemy ships ar
Hi! Super Warrior - First strike. This affects WHAT, exactly? If the Super Warrior is the attacker, then in the very first round of the battle opponent's destroyed ships don't fire back. The higher the firepower of the fleet, the better this ability. You still need good speed for that fleet, to perform more attacks in your turn, and/or to retreat it out of opponent's reach at the end of your turn. BR, Iztok <

Super Warrior - First strike. This affects WHAT, exactly? Even a crappy little defender with a particle cannon on it, going against DeathBoat Omega with black hole cannons all over it, even IF the battleship strikes first and 'destroys' it, the other ship will still fire back once. Super Spies - Let's you waste more money, faster! Espionage is pretty much a joke, and Super Spies is just pathetic. Super Organizer - When attacked, your ethical allies will respond. This is pretty

I almost never build starbases, except military ones, and even then I only really put a couple modules on them (ie: the one that slows enemy movement). Maybe the occasional economy/trading starbase for trade routes. Starbases takes AGES to build into something that is (or should be, at any rate) extremely powerful. Give me what I pay for. A massive battleship is pretty much cheaper and easier to make then a starbase.

I've been pestering the Stardock devs (Kryo and Frogboy) to let me submit my new technology descriptions for review. I've basically made the descriptions much more serious, far more plausible, and even slightly more useful. They're a lot longer and verbose to be sure, but after seeing the new technology descriptions for Hyperfusion / Artificial Gravity, etc. I thought they could all use a redo. Some of them are good, some are just stupid: "Remember Basic Miniaturization? Well now it's better, an
Sorry gang...we'll try the squash this one early Monday.
You guys could learn a thing or two from EA games - for one, stop talking to us, secondly, refuse to respond to or acknowledge any real problems, and three, don't release patches even for game-breaking problems if you can get away with it. Seriously, I hate having my standards raised. Stop it. :D
According to Draginol/Frogboy backstory or tech descriptions, the humans' real innovation was inertial confinement fusion("Hyperfusion"), which was more efficient than the magnetic confinement that the Drengin and Arceans had used. The laser-beam tech required for IC Fusion to work so well came apparently as a byproduct of beam-weapons research by the divided nations of Earth. This "Hyperfusion" is what made the extreme miniaturization of stargates possible, leading t

Perhaps this is all possible, but like I said, I noticed that AIs almost never build economic structures. I've continuously scoured their worlds with spies looking for economic structures to hit to damage their treasury (thus making it harder to neutralize my own spies), but I never could find anything. Just loads of factories and labs. Also, IIRC Challenging is 'fair'. Normal AIs have a tiny penalty.
