So I was playing, but I didnt see a line of trade route. Am I missing something? It would be nice to have a handle on the economy because, even with economy setting on fast and build and other things on slow, economy still comes in incredibly slow. Anyway, thanks for all your help thus far :)

Normally it would, but this one just comes up as a "Visual Studio C++" that says "runtime error..." and no links or file paths to speak of. It only tells me that there was an error and nothing about the error specifically. It's an oddity in Vista that I've seen a few times on different programs (not the same error, but the fact that it comes up with a window telling me that there was an error). Any other suggestions?

Got an odd runtime error last night. Game locked up and window came up saying runtime error. No other information. As for the minidumps, what am I supposed to send? I dont see any log files or such. Maybe I'm just missing something. The minidump window doesnt give any more info then "minidump error" and an "ok" button. Finally, after a while the side scrolling seems to lock up. Now I've attributed this problem to zooming way out and scrolling to one of the sides as far as the g

As it turns out, that was the problem! The third save was set to normal fleets/resources/etc when they had been fast and large prior. It's good to know this is known cause it had me befuddled. My friend continues having minidump issues even after reducing his graphics settings. I suppose I could try reducing mine, but the game runs perfect 99% of the time at full settings. The only time it lags like a mother is when the advent bubble ships are present. I found another oddity i

So yeah, 3 times in the last 15 mins either myself or my friend would get minidump issue in MP online. It worked fine the other day when we were playing. Got about 5 hours in and then saved. We came back to it a day later and played about an hour and it worked fine then too. Now we are picking it up again and getting a minidump every few minutes of play. It's really really really annoying! I mean sheesh, I have 4Gigs of RAM and 500 Gigs of HDD space. I dont see the problem! Most background pr

I'm not sure if this is what you were experiencing, but I found an ingame situation that nukes my FPS. Basically, the advent have these ships that create a bubble around the fleet. When they are in play and I zoom in (especially when there are multiples of these ships) my framerate goes to heck. It is the only time I have ever experienced a drop in framerate. I have tested this over several games and its always the same situation. The advent come in with their bubble ships and my FPS goes to hec

Well, to take the pirate planet over, I found building multiple siege capital ships (like 6 or more) along with a slew of carriers worked fine. Basically the siege cap ships go straight for the planet and decimate it. Then pirate reinforcements will stop coming. Next is the clean up of all the pirate fleets. The fighter squadrons work well for this. Can also throw a battlecruiser in there as well. The key is to take out the planet before anything else to prevent futher reinforcements.

It would be nice if they worked like the trade ports and had cargo ships that travelled between planets. But as it is right now, they are more expensive then trade ports and produce far less income. I hope these get buffed soon. What do you mean by jump nexuses? Like Hub planets that have multiple prongs of jump lanes? Or planets near the star? Or something entirely different? Also, does the distance from an asteroid belt affect how many resources are brought in? Logically it w

Maybe a little boost to the orbital refineries would be nice. I often end up with 40k credits and 38 metal/crystal total. Everything seems to take alot of crystals and a few metals and relatively small amounts of credits in proportion to the income rates of each. At least thats the way it seems to me.

Hey all, So I'm still trying to figure out how orbital refineries and trade ports work. I understand that they generate resources, but I am interested in the scale at which you receive resources, if distance between planetary bodies are a factor, and if multiple structures in the same orbit increase income linearly, exponentially, or logrithmically. I have been testing this somewhat and cant seem to figure things out 100%. I've noticed that 1 trade port and 1 orbit

Alright, so the title describes what this thread is for. Here is my list: Fix the "out of memory fatal error crash" after playing several hours on a huge map, the autosave stops working and comes up with this issue that is only seen by manually alt-tabbing. I have 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD, so I'm not hurting for memory space. I havent a clue why the game just suddenly, after a few hours, causes the autosave to lock up and game to crash. I do like the new "random

I would personally love it if something were put in that would promote a role playing atmosphere. For years I've been role playing my RTS's in MP just for fun. Not "building the biggest army to smite my foes in 2.37 secs" or "force quitting because my first strategy didnt work" mentalities, but rather, focusing on building up my "bases" and strategically placing them in places where they are asthetically pleasing as well as functional. That sort of game play, while you are taking a few missles t

Nice Job. Thanks for caring so much about your players! I just have one complaint though. Installing the patch (through stardock) reset all my settings. Oh well, life goes on, but the UI still doesnt feel "the same" I think I must have changed something else initially that I've forgotten now. A few games and I'll get used to it. Thanks again!

Well said Draginol. I have been saying this for years. Get rid of this insane copy protection, make a quality game, and gear it toward a wider market and you will do well. That isnt to say a company like EA doesnt rake in the dough with titles like the sims, but seriously, how many people actually pirate the sims? The "hard core gamers" are the only likely candidates. Most players of the sims are casual gamers (like my sister) and they each pay for every expansion that comes out. So why does EA

When we get mod tool and I get some time, I wanna make an RP mod that will allow players the ability to play with and against their friends in an RP world that rewards story integration, not just combat, economy, etc. I always RP my RTS games even in MP and I've always wanted the ability to mod my games to such specs, but most RTS's dont promote mods. I say, kudos to the devs and bring on the mod tools!

I love the blue background that looks like "sky". The red is probably my least favorite. It's kinda hard to see the units up close at times. All in all, the backdrop schema that this game uses is awesome. Space has always been difficult to portray because it is so vast. To get perspective, the eye needs "close" points of reference in order to avert from the monotony of space. The background and space effects in this game accomplish this nicely IMO. Now if we could just get space RTS's to do this

You guys frickin rock! Why cant EA be more like you. It took them 9 patches with CnC3 to finally listen to the community and balance the game somewhat properly. You guys listened to us right off the bat and the adjustments are premium! Thank you for a great game! You definitely have a life long customer here. One comment I have on the "auto surrender". While it is a welcome addition, perhaps it could be toggleable. I like to role play my games and I enjoy the clean up phase. Thats why I

Part of the tactics is balancing relations with the other races. To get the pirates off your back, simply increase the bounty on another race. If you dont have the cash, hit up the black market and sell some resources. Make friends with one or two of the other races by doing their missions or giving them tribute. I will say, this is a pretty rudimentary way of making friends and needs to be expanded upon, but for now, its sufficient. With 3-4 planets, your basic economy with level 2 logistics sh

I dunno, campaigns were good back in the days of the westwood made cnc games, but really, I dont need campaigns to enjoy my games. I've been roleplaying my RTS games for quite some time now. Even in multiplayer, I've roleplayed games like CnC generals and earth 2150/2160 with other people. So long as it's done effectively, it brings a whole new level of enjoyment to an otherwise bland game. Too many RTS's now a days are all about rush rush rush, end game in 3 minutes. I say, whats the point in t

I own 1,2,&5 in that list. Doubt I'd get sims stories or CoD4. I like regular sims 2, but stories doesnt look appealing to me and castaway stories didnt get great reviews, so the price will have to greatly drop if I am to even consider it. CoD4... I'm not a big FPS fan. Orange box was the first FPS I've played in many years and, while I enjoyed those games, it will be another half decade or so before I feel the urge to play an FPS again. So yeah, just felt I'd add to the convo :)

I agree with the first one. It would be nice to have a queued list of research techs that are easily draggable up and down as well as add/deletable. I too am running 1440x900 on a 17" laptop and it is difficult to see what is being researched at any given time let alone what is next or what is queued up. I like that view, but it would be nice to have an alternative view where you can see a scrollable list with easily moveable buttons. As for zooming, meh, I cant complain. I wish more RT

Yeah, the lack of a campaign doesnt phase me at all. In games like civ or galciv2 that have campaigns, I never even touch them. I prefer to role play my games including RTS's and I find it more fun to make up my own story. The other thing is, with the upcoming editor, people should be able to make their own campaigns. I'd rather have an excellent base game and be able to add my own custom specific stuff later then have an excellent campaign, but lacking overall. The game CnC3 was ok wh

Vista Ultimate 32-bit, 4 gig ram, 500 gig HDD, 8400M nvidia, HP laptop, core 2 duo 2.0Ghz... I would get a lockup after about 3-5 hours of playing where it wouldnt save anymore because the memory became full. Since 1.02 I havent had that problem. I played a 10 straight hour game without so much as a hickup. The engine is extremely smooth even on the laptop. I say go for it! This game is worth playing!

What does the pirate level mean? Like as the game progresses, the activity level goes up to moderate, high, severe, etc... What does that exactly do or entail? Does it affect the overall pirate presence in the game? Does it increase their ships stats? Or what?
