Whats funny is the fertility clinic which actually cost MORE to rush buy over an existing structure than if you buy from scratch. If you want to rush buy one it will cost 204 bc if you simply pick a tile that has something on it and click buy; without first clicking build or update. It will cost you around 400 bc if you click update fisrt and then buy. Usually this works the opposite.

Your victory condition gets a multiplier. Military is X2, Diplomatic and Influence are around X1.5 and Tech victory is like X1. I forget the actual numbers, and I think that influence was a bit higher than diplomatic. I'm hoping someone more learned will correct me. It doesn't seem that your games are long. 6 years and under is quite fine. If you are that concerned, try doing som things to boost your score. When you know that you are going to win anyway, keep bu

While its true that every game has a point where you know you'll win. Sometimes its as early as when you get the (broken) MCC built. But I don't know if anything can be done to make it harder at the end of the game. I guess one problem is that the game does not cheat. So what happens in the game when the AI is way ahead; before the player has caught up and overcome? Do the other AI players team up? Does the human player get some bonuses to catch up? What I think is the biggest questio

Have there been recent changes to DA? I didn't know if the espionage changes were going to make it to DA. The MCC is still not "fixed" from what i know.

I don't think anyone has recorded data like this. There are quite a few variables. Nine races each having 10 planets is really not all that many planets. As sole soul said, a medium map might suit you, but then it may seem congested and wars will break out sooner, you'll also get a lot of AI colonies in your space. Of course that could be good if you don't want to travel far to conquor. And as he said no one will be far away in a corner. To make up for the tight quarters yo

If you are concerned about being able to find a trade good or other special improvement, you can only really rename the planet so that you can recognize it. The is no search function. So you may even forget where you put your tech capital. I use the renaming on AI worlds that i spy on and find something i like. Those become my invasion priorities. I agree that it would be good to be able to find all one-of-a-kind improvements either galaxy wide or from within your own empire but we ca

Yes, technically having a 1 in each category would provide better protection than a 3 in any single category, especially early game where the AI has ships with single digit attack. However, those low end defenses take up a lot of hull space and cost a lot, it will be difficult to have a ship that early in the game with 1 defense in all 3 slots. A better way to think of it is that you can have a 1 in any catergory and not have to worry about it being off-type.

I guess you can say that with smaller maps, wars will begin earlier. Other than that I don't know since I don't really vary my conditions by all that much. I just tweek the number of opponents and planets. I keep research at normal. I think you get a really good game with a large map and occasional or abundant stars and abundant planets. Personally I like tight clusters since it makes econominc star bases cover more planets. Keep you opponents to like 5 with a lot of minors. T

Yea, i wasn't replying to the influence capital (by that i think you mean the political capital) so my answer didn't reflect how they work with other structures or with bonus tiles. for #11 and #12, i think you are correct, they behave like economic capitals in that they do not boost what other structures have, they just add to it. And its been a while since i thought of it, but i do remember that the political capital does in fact use the morale bonus tile and maybe the influence bon

I'll try to fill in the blanks: 1) Yes, the economic capital increases the income from taxes on the planet it is on. So the more people the better. It does not increase the effect of other economic structures. 2) I have never heard of a planet having a cap on its economic output. You can test it out by adding yet another economic structure to that planet and see if the income from that planet goes up. I do not think there is a limit. 3) No. The manufacturing and techno
As for the resource starbase, that AI may have figured out that you were planning on swooping in to claim the resource the instant the base was taken out.
That would be cool, but i don'tthink the AI thinks it through to that extent. I just figured that base was too protected for what i gave them. And about the trade roiute, i agree, i was mostly curioous tro see what would happen. Maybe if i try to buy a friegter from and AI and use it. Never not

I tried to get some extra trade in one game by gifting a frighters to an AI after all of my slots were filled. The ship was adjacent to one of my planets so it would seem obvious that they would have the route with me, a bit of a gamble i guess. However the ship never moved. Other times I might try to get an AI to take out another's resource starbase by giving it a ship next to it while they are at war. Sometimes the just fly by it. Perhaps they look at the strength of the starbase.&n

Assuming the event happens earlier in the game, do the DL get good techs that might be worth stealing? Do they build up their planets faster than other races? that might mean that if you let them be for a while, the planet you get might be more than a bunch of blank tiles.

I usually play with mega events off, but this game i kept them on. I got the Dread Lord event late in the game. [e digicons]8C[/e] , thats what i thought but it was more like [e digicons][/e] and the Dread Lords went [e digicons]x_x[/e] . I just happened to have 2 - 3 billion troop transports in the area. Lost maybe 500 million to the Dread Lords' 20 and got a class 13 planet. So, whats the big deal about these guys? Did I miss something? What is SUPPOSED to happen

12 Replies 14,605 Views

The point of unihabitable planets is that during the colony rush at the start of the game you need to explore an area before knowing if any planets are useable. If all planets were, it would really change the colony phase. Have you ever gone to a star to see 5 class 0 worlds? DOH! wasted time. You ideas for added content to the galaxy are good but they have all been suggested before, long ago.

Yea i tried having a good production planet buiuld ships to be filled on another world, like my tech capital that had full population but no starport. The thing is I launched with the minimum crew (1 million) and must have lost it in transit because a few turns later I invaded a planet of 6 billion with just i million soldiers. [e digicons]8C[/e] I've learned my lesson since. And its correct that you don't need a high population world to fill transports, its just that I li
Is it worth building higher population planets at the fringes of your empire? Not only will they be better able to resist enemy invasions, but they will also provide the troops you need when you want to attack?
That strategy is completely up to you. I build all of my planets to have at least 13billion people. I put 3000 million on my transports (enough to take a 6 billion AI planet with enough population left over). I try not to buiuld those transports until the planet

Very good questions, but I've never gotten into the equations calculating things. I'm sure some one has. You are correct about what effects the value of trade routes and I never heard of alignment effecting it. The one thing I can tell you that may be the cause for the sudden drop in trade value is that when you go over 10000bc/wk in income (I THINK thats net income after spending) your trade value drops by half, or something.

In DA I occassionally can see the spy symbol on a planet that no longer has a spy. I also sometimes have my spies negated but aren't told about it, I'm always the last to know.

I would suggest only using war ships you designed, except maybe for the basic defended if you want to just get something in orbit. The predesigned ships don't optimize for your exact techs and miniturization. About the game, even though you have never played a 4X game before it won'ttake long to learn. Enjoy the newness of it while you can. When to end a turn? First, the turn button will turn green when you have moved all of your ships. Early in the game you will mostly be dealin
