I think I saw the same pretty overs
I have an idea for a new demigod: the game developer. general, can call upon game groupies to assist in battle: lvl 1: hard core startegy games: calls a few select individuals apt in tactics and strategy. unfortunately they make for poor fighters and will fall fairly easily lvl 2: final fantasy gamers. nutjobs gone banas. though not as impressive in physique as their virtual idols, their swords still give them the chance to actually hurt someone other than themselves</

We'll post the patch notes early next week and release when the testing is done (probably later that week or early the following week). Sorry I haven't been posting much, we are crazy busy on lots of new stuff. Thanks for your patience When is this
another thing came to my mind: I'd like to see the stats section expanded. you know, currently we have information of our rank in fleet, colonisation, economy, etc. but these are fairly imprecise numbers and there are a few things I'd like changed: 1) indexing: right now, being 1st means fairly little. in fleet size it could mean you have 10 pts in fleet supply more than the second or it could mean you have double the fleet size. sure, in some cases you know when you are dominant, but
I may have said it already, but ... nice work!! played the 0.03c version and it's already pretty impressive. nice models, well done interface, title music and ship balance so far seems promising. can't wait to see what you do with the entrenchment stuff. take your time and thx for the effort.
if we are already talking about atmosphere here, does anyone else feel the game shows too few faces, people? I mean, you never get to see who you actually kill or befriend except for those few static portraits. planet killing is also purely by numbers. I think you could do a lot in that direction to create more emotional impact. think of the quote 'a single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is just statistics'. maybe somethink like in the blizzard games, where you have portraits of
good point, it could include capships too and maybe also starbases. but then, that should be it, no extra story for frigates or research stations, that would be overkill. thx for the nice feedback. seems like some people kinda like the idea. :)
Quoting Hack78, reply 2If you get the upgrade, the SB will stop you losing the planet. It can be bombed to 0 health, but you cannot lose it until the SB is blown up (Aux govt for TEC, can't remember the name for other races off the top of my head....) Do you lose the planetary upgrades though? If you did I would use the SB slot on something else and just let my bombers and mines take care of the siege frigates.
ok, I though up some way of creating a bit more immersion for the game. it's purely for ambiance, not gameplay effects. how about a small window with a planet descriptom based on what happened to that planet during the game? at first I considered just randomly assigning descriptions based on planet characteristics, but then I though it would be much cooler if the description took the planets role, history and equipment into account. it's of course harder to do, maybe not even economical to do
or as a variable of government types (should something like it be implemented). 'federacy' gives access to multiple administration seats, whereas 'empire' is restricted to one or only few. otherwise, linking it to research is also a good idea. maybe like in fleet supply, you could research several tiers of them instead of a downright '1 regional capital per system' topic. or you go for that latter but have several levels of effectiveness. the big question of course is: what sh
I kinda of like the idea of tying the availablity of super capships to already gained experience, but I'd like some different mechanics. maybe instead of the lvl 10 capship returning to shipyard for a revamp, have it unlock the new shipclass altogether. or the reseach for it if you will. my ideal concept would be the following: there is some high lvl tech on the one hand, like "superstrucuture assembly" that unlocks basic buildability. next to that, you make it dependent on experience gained
I doubt ic had much to do with optimising demigod, it would probably take some time to fully understand the code and everything. however, SD surely is quite busy with this and since it's sd people, yarlen for example, that post the patch notes, that might account for the absence. after all, the release of the new patches was not expected earlier than the coming days. as for the new expansion. well, they say they are crazy busy with doing new stuff and I guess they have been doing stuf
1) I'd be careful to call china communist in anything but name. sure, it has a big government influence, lots of economic direction, but there is also a lot of capitalist practices in there. if china were not so dictatorial, it probably wouldn't even be that far from other countries of similar relative development stage. 2) growth, in particular fast growth, is a lot easier when you start from a lower level, because you get a lot of manufacturing tasks that are just too expensive in r
ex post, one of the biggest mistakes by the government(s) was to trust in the self-healing, self-corrective powers of the market to restore balance. This is why I believe in minimal government intervention, not zero government intervention. You are correct that a zero rule market is not self regulating. There *do* have to be some basic rules set up to ensure it becomes self regulating. Without basic rules, I do not believe bel
So there are some things I very much believe are useful to an economy and will defend: Hourly pay, or some other system of paying more for hard work. So far, nothing has proven to be more effective at encouraging people to work harder than some financial incentives. Minimal governement. A government that sticks its hands into too many things tends to mess them up. Free market economics. Frankly, it made
so soon? well, I'll sure look forward to it, though I'm more pessimistic than optimistic about it's quality. but I'm always happy to be wrong in such a case.
you keep bringing up how good the current order in cuba is, because so many people vote for it. but do you really think that is any kind of serious vote? any kind of real choice? come on, it's like a 'yes or yes' choice. in a country where news is severely controlled and free speech extremely limited, what value do those random numbers have? they are meaningless. in former eastern block countries there were also votes, but they mostly said 'we really love the communist party. we really do.' a
well, just two things: one: you said 'the market' making the decisions is a bad thing. why? who else should make the decisions? the government? with the market, at least I can decide if I want to buy and what I want to buy. if all supply is controlled by some centrally organised body, then I'll have a lot less of a choice. the heart of capitalism of competition. you are better at something then someone else, you will have more money. ceteris paribus this results in better products and
I cannot recall any socialist regime that has not resulted in a de facto dictatorship sooner or later. Germany, Norway, Japan, Canada? All of these are "socialist" by the US definition, and last time I checked they all have active (some might say TOO active) political processes. If you look at the evidence history gives us, it's safe to say that the optimal economy operates somewhere between capitalist and socialist systems.

Hello CCA. There is not only capitalism and socialism in the world. Different countries favor different styles and ususally no style is 100% one or the other. There are a lot of "capitalistic" countries out there, which have a free social system for their citizens. The germans call their system "social capitalism", I think (although I might be wrong). Some scandinavian countries call their system different, too...
indeed,
I think the campaign is only half the story. sure, I like good story, it gives games meaning and setting and you get more immersed. seriously, homeworld would not be the same game without its brilliant story line. and I dare say not even starcraft, fs or a bunch of other games. however, the other part is: if there will be a campaign, then maybe the devs will also release some kind of editor or tools. and that would rock, bc I am pretty sure quite a few people would create some stuff o
well, since we never really got a release date anyway (at least I cannot recall any specification), it's hardly a delay. at least in external communication anyway. too bad though that it's late. hope to see some more info on this one. I mean it seems a bit strange, since the entrenchment launch went pretty smoothly, so that would not seem to be a reason for delay. well, maybe IC decided to pack a bit more stuff into it or that doing it proper will take more time than anticipated. thx
