as you correctly said, the current quick start only gives you things that you would have got most of the time anyway. however, there is a fine difference between quick start and normal start and that is intel. by the time you get to decide between early military and early economc, you'd have scouted a couple of planets in a normal game and have determinded whether an enemy is very close, like 2 - 3 jumps or not. this is a crucial piece of information in a game, as it determines how much time

those are some very good points, I will forward a few comments on them. I think the point of advanced start was to only provide the no-brainer items and leave as much strategic decisions with the player. sure, an even more advanced start would get the game going faster, but would also take away decisions. in such a game, colonising would not be such an important item for capships. the early balance between eco and militiary would be different. I think it would be a loss, but there may
I think 300 mb is the final space on the hdd. the actual dl size is a lot less, more like 100 mb, though I could be wrong on that account, but I think it downloads a compressed version and then unzipps or installs it which then takes up more space, which is the 300 we see now in impulse.
governments are surely a good idea, but I agree that this is definatley something for the empire wide level and not on a per planet basis. makes less sense and creates more micro. in about all 4X games, government type choices affect all cities/ planets/ colonies in your empire.
does your home pc have a network card or something? because it should be possible to access internet via another computer? other than that, I'd have thought that a full copy and paste of the whole sins directory would work. you say that prompts an activation error?
yeah, I remember that time. was pretty neat. being mentioned in the manual under special thanks for a very good game definately put a big, fat smile on my face.
indeed. which also means that all factions, not only allies can build in a given well. and which is also necessary for the offensive vasari SB to make sense. theoretically, you could have 40 starbases at a sun, if every player had the maximum there. would be a horrible carnage too.
had the msg too? is this some kind of quiz? I remember irc quizes, there were ... well, also a way to kill time.
for any who are interested: I played around with an ai a bit and tested the new auxiliary government. what it did was to prevent the loss of the planet. that is, I lost all the pop and thus the credit income, but I did not lose the planet, have to recolonise it, rebuy the upgrades or anything. it just stays at 0 infrastructure and the enemy siege frigs keep firing at it even though it's pointless ( well, not entirely, it keeps the planet from regaining health). so, conclusion: this is in fact
just a tiny bitist of suggestion: I think 4x games like civ iv and gc ii have been mentioned as examples for the direction it could go. I'd like to point out that some of the mods for the former are really cool and maybe those can give an idea also. some elements from rhys and fall or revolutions mods would be what I'd want in civ V and maybe something makes it into sins. sort of like internal dynamics, secession tendencies, new factions/ nations arising midgame.
wow, cool artwork. is it just me or is some of it in the game in the form of loading screens? I think I saw the tec SB concept art sometime. hm, that last one reminds of something ... just not sure what. maybe stargate universe drone chairs? just looks creepy with the one lonely guy sitting there and watching what looks like a tactical display. hm, maybe also a touch of cylon baseship hybrid.
I don't think the update is out yet. at least my impulse doesn't show anything and I also didn't see any posts that said it was out. I'd check again tomorrow, around 1 - 2 pm est, that's when they like to put stuff online. if it's another problem, then helping would be easier with a bit more information :).

game duration is somewhat tough. you can have some games that last for about an hour, but those would be 1on1s. larger games would take more in the range of 2-3 hours, depending on the size of the game and how balanced teams are. large or huge maps can get even longer and go into the proper 4x dimensions, but don't worry, there is a bunch of relatively small maps for larger teams as well. I mean you said you play supcom online. I never got to play it, but I think this ones not a short
starbase rotation? huh? what does this mean? rotation around planets? unlikely. but if it were just a graphical/ aesthetic issue it would be in that part ... auxiliarly gov.: how does it work now? does it prevent the loss of the planet or rather enemy colonisation after the planet had been destroyed?
I didn't play sots, but I believe you on that point. we've had the race discussion several time over. unit wise, they may be similar, but most games use some sort of framework to fit in for races and then make manipulations for them here and there. the important point is: do they play differently? do they require different paths to win? I think sins races do. as for the rest, I can't think of anything more to say from what I did. I won't object to new races, but there's a whol
well, I for one don't particularly need new race(s). sure, I won't mind, but the things announced seem more important to me. and don't forget, 4X games have more races, because more often than not, these races are more or less variations of one single framework with an extra tech here, or some racial feature. sins' race balance is more the rts direction with fewer, but more diversified races. both are fine, but just don't expect a huge increase. DoW with sequels is probably one of the rare ex
here's another nice one, not sure if has been mentioned aready: 'the earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not enough for every man's greed.' Ghandi

great news! and earlier than I expected. I'd have thought we'd get more info by end of march. it's definately what I had been longing for since the game's release and from I posted, I'm obviously delighted to also see the alternative victory paths apparently in. and the planet capturing ... well, it would be nice. about the beta I'd agree. now, I'm can't tell about what the ai could do seriously wrong, but my take is: give us a beta as soon as you have everything in place and

I mean I think I found an improved version somewhere for free and I don't think it was illegal. it didn't matter since I own the game anyway, but had it elsewhere, but I'm not so sure you even have to pay at all.
woa, quite an extensive interview. and an interesting one too. I knew they had the open line system long ago, but full gravity model and ships rotating as well I had not heard. I think he slipped once though, as I have yet to see a way to bring the adjudicator's target count up to 10. without file manipulation anyway.
it's not all that practicable, but I think the races' second ability cruisers are effective as well, as pretty much all of them have abilities that enhance dmg against single units. and with am cost involved, those are more useful with few, strong units. 10 hc's all taking 40% extra dmg hurts more than 10 lrms doing so with another 10 or 15 not being affected. ust my guess anyway.
I was wondering about the same thing. with so many combinations, if the packs are all independent from previous packs, search mp games would get pretty tedious.
