I tend not to bother even researching the power plant techs and never build them. The research coordination centers I will build, though. Ive never done hard research on the coordination center, but I do think it helps vs. just building another lab. Especially when you are talking about a planet solely doing research where flasks can get into the thousands. ESPECIALLY when you get a set of planets that can fall under the same range of a few starbases and they can all be centered on research.

I zoned out around response #21 and skipped to the bottom here. To answer your question about buying and selling ships for profit, it can be done. In fact, I just finished an AAR with the Terrans (with no extra storyline, right up your alley!) at level Painful about how you can do just that. I actually built zero warships over the course of the entire game, simply bought, sold, and/or gifted ships around the universe. In fact, it was the highest military score I have ever achieved, not sure

Problem arises when you reach a point where the AI is researching more tech than you are, though. But I have done that to a degree. Ive gone majorly in debt, I think like 10k or so, but I was making 2 or 3k a turn , so I got out real fast.

I was simply throwing out ideas for possible bonus points that would be easy to prove. Because thats the problem. I could offer a lot more possiblities but you couldn't prove any of them. Example: spend no bonus points on racial skills when you start would provide an extra point, or something like that. Granted, we are using the honor system, but questions will arise if theres too many things open to debate. I'll see if I can brainstorm any others.

Oftentimes, you can deduct the answer without fully reading the question. I will skim through the question for key words and then pick an answer. Rarely is trivia actually trick questions, its the nature of trivia. Its "trivial", not tricks. For instance, just making something up, if you see the words "National Football League" in a question, and the multiple choice answers are: A. the Cubs, B. the Bears, C. the Phillies, and D. the Penguins, Im gonna pick B and move on I could care less wha

My 2 cents about bonus points would be more in line with Mumble. I think that more bonuses would help in a few ways. 1. It would lessen the probability of ties. 2. Allow people to work within the parameters for the round, but be creative in the path of the win ( like high score vs. speed ) 3. Help "newer" or self proclaimed weaker players feel like they can contribute more to the team. I would want to see that all bonuses be something simple, like +1.

Ok, to finish this bad boy up, let me start by stating a few observations about this game. Again, this approach was sort of 2-fold. Not only did I want an All Econ approach, but I also wanted to build no military ships or win by tech. With that being said, it actually made the game rather boring, for reasons I mentioned above. I originally intended an actually military conquest, but I think I ADHD'ed out, because after eliminating the Korx I couldnt stand the thought of doing tha

I wasnt sure if you could use the ship without the tech. I learned that the hard way when I tried to invade a planet with a bought troop transport, but didnt have "planetary invasion" researched.

Oh, and I might have confused you a little, also. If you look at the post where I said "Turn 31" (reply #2 about halfway down), that was to show you that no one had militarized yet, but right underneath that, at the "end of extreme colonization phase", when I had all the planets, that was actaully turn 58, sorry for the confusion.

50 percent social boost is bigger than you probably realize. I was cranking out trade centers, and Earth was just focused on military building. I dont think I actually built anything on Earth for like 10 to 12 turns. I flat out bought 3 colony ships, plus the original, then I think I bought 1 or 2 more as anomolies allowed (when I would get money). I got 2 planets in diplomatic trading, a class 4 and a class 3 I think? I only actually "built" 2 or 3 more after that, so thats how I got them

You will have to pick up troop/colonists. If you upgrade to a freighter and fly to a neighbor the route will originate from your homeworld. I usually just set it to auto-build, after your home system is mined it will kinda go "explore"

In regards to spore ships, if you aren't the Korath, is there any way to actually use spores? If you buy the ship from the Korath, can you use it? Or does anyone have a mod available that allows anyone else to build them? Has anyone successfully stolen that technology or is it even able to be stolen? Just curious from the standpoint of trying to play something a little different. Like sporing the Korath planets to give them a taste of their own medicine...

I build them when a planet is in enemy territory and I get the warning that its about to defect. Thats the ONLY time i build them. It costs like 250 BC to buy it outright and it usually does the trick. Or, if your really lame, save the game and reload, there's some funky bug where your planet will not flip after a load/reload for another 3 or 4 turns at least. Thats why whenever you restart a game, the influence spheres will sometimes look all messed up until you click the TURN but

As a side note, I think the Neutrality Learning Centers are a waste of time for a tech victory. They are so expensive to make, and so costly to upkeep, you do just as well if not FASTER, by building invention matrixes/discovery spheres. When I took the time to play a game and save it at a point where I could either make NLCs, or continue with other labs, I found by the time you actually upgraded your planets to NLCs and funded them, you could have already won in less turns with the regular up

At this point I have seriously started cranking out banks ( not all have upgraded to stock markets yet), and have really upped my diplomacy and my morale resource as well as trade goods. I made it a point to put 1 farm and 1 entertainment tile on EACH planet to keep morale at a max. As a side note, Earth is always the biggest culprit for dragging down morale, so let me post a picture of what I have on my capital, its probably not what you expect <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/s

Im glad you mentioned that Mumble, because I really thought the tiebreaker was whoever POSTED the game first, not whoever finished it first. By posting first, you are taking more of a "gamble" that you couldn't better your score and just wait till the last second, but it doesnt really matter since we are on the same team, and someone did it in 3 years did they not?

Turns 17 - Turn 31 This is where things started to get much more interesting and entertaining to play. The "intial" colonization phase is complete and now I am starting to focus on a few extreme worlds, most notably those aquatics I dont want the Iconians to snag. This is where I stand as of Turn 17. <img src="http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd96/ArcLightning/AARIntialcolonyrushcomplete.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and

Turn 17: Ive now met everyone. The greys ended up being the Korx and the Iconians. I have mixed feelings about the Iconians because there happens to be 6, I repeat 6 aquatic worlds under my influence, and they are pretty good planets. Class 12, 11, 9, 7, 6, 2 to be exact. I want to grab a few of those simply because it looks like most people are going to get between 7 and 15 planets, and if I'm unable to grab 1 or 2 of those Im looking at around 9 planets, not good. On the flip size

So, after reading some random posts I was curious about trying an "all econ" approach to winning a game. At first, the thought seemed impossible, so naturally I wanted to prove it wasn't. There were several sticky points I was concerned about: 1. Without factories or labs, production of econ structures would be slow. 2. Military might is going to be hard to produce. 3. Research will be difficult as well. So, to alleviate some of these problems I wanted to have a plan

If I remember correctly, it was stated that the graphics will be updated with the Arnor Twilight expansion. Just one more thing to click past! Im too busy looking at the number of troops when I click the "skip" button anyhow.

15 Replies 17,474 Views

They do have the right to the update, and they can anytime they choose to, but thats not the issue. The issue is HOW you get the update. And simply buying the game does not neccesarily mean you can choose HOW to get the update. A similar example, with only a small amount of stretching, would be to say I was born in America, I pay my taxes, so I have the right to vote. But if I live or move out to the middle of nowhere, I need to expect a certain amount of inconvenience to get TO th
