How will the spell system work? Will I be able to mix new spells by combining spells I've learnt? Will I be able to make spells perminant if I power them with essence instead of mana. How will enchanting items work? Can I use magic to transform human soldiers into other creatures, for example could I use a spell to make my soldiers undead if I had death magic? Could I give my soldiers the ability to heal quickly with life magic?

Yes I imagine very like that the question is will you be able to mix your own spells by combining different magical effects you researched? How will enchanting weapons and armour work also?
I would think the laws of magic for Elemental would be something like. You need mana of the right type to cast a spell. e.g Life for a healing spell, fire for a fire ball. The amount of mana spent per turn is the magnitude of the spell Possibly you can make a spell
[quote who="Fenhiro" reply="3" id="2327347"] a wizard and a priest in a fantasy setting aren't too far apart. You're right there...the only real difference between wizards and priests (if you exclude morality) are that wizards for the most part learn, study magic in general with their magical source being either within themselves or in an artifact like a staff. Priests on the other hand are granted magical power by their deity. Considering that all magic users (as in non
Quoting kyogre12, reply 4 Quoting Hortz, reply 2 It's not that it is just cartoonish, but that it's extremely minimalistic. Because a game that could potentially have 32 players and hundreds, if not thousands of units should have graphics like Crysis, and should only be playable on computers that won't exist for another 3 years. Gee, that makes total sence. Oh, and that's sarcasm, by the way How can anybody make such a dumb s
Even when it comes to the sort of magic they do they aren't always far apart, I mean the powers of a priest in a fantasy setting often depend on the sort of God they worship. Look at D&D priests can burn people, hit them with lightening, command them to die, heal or harm. So yes I guess what I'm saying is it more depends on how you choose to describe it, than the actual power.
In response to Frogboys recent answer about would there be priest, some people responded that surely someone imbued by the Sovereign with the ability to channel was just a wizard not a Priest. I think what that those people are missing is that it’s very much a matte
I like that the art style for this game is distinctive, nothing wrong with stylised graphics. In any case the sort of player who is put of because the game doesn't look like a fantasy version of Crysis is probably the sort of person who desn't have the attention span to really enjoy a deep turn based stratergy game anyway.
It's a balance, having totally random tech would make stratergy in teching impossible, but having totally predicatble tech gets dull and is rather unrealistic.
[quote who="heretic613" reply="12" id="2324697"] Quoting pigeonpigeon, reply 10 Creating graphics for new units is always the most challenging part... I'd extremely surprised if Stardock develops a spore-like creature creation tool; it would require an immense amount of time, effort and money... Not to mention, there is a reason why the graphics in spore are as... silly.. as they are (that's not to say I have a problem with its graphics). The
What sort of part if any will spies & assassins play in the game. Can I attempt to assassinate an enemy sovereign or a channeller working for one? Can I train infiltration, & assassination units at all or will they play no part in the game?
The biggest constraints on moders will be; 1. Maya isn't cheap will I be able to use Blender. 2. Their artistic talent. The AI can be written with python script so that's easy to mod.
Yes I have dual boot but nothing I've tried so far that works with Vista has failed to work with Windows 7 beta, it is Vista with much improved memory management and a couple of nice added features to all intents.
[quote who="Sethai" reply="9" id="2323368"]Image fixed. Most people seam to agree with me about the art stuff, or are at least ambivalent. Some general statements about fleet combat: It's obvious that the current system is too crude. Some new dynaimcs need to be introduced both for visual reasons and to add an additional level of strategy, beyond the current attack % defense rock/paper/scissors. I would suggest that this extra dynamic be concerned with fleet composition, and make m
I generally like the art direction of Elemental because it's a little different, my machine can handle Crysis and games like that but that doesn't mean I can only enjoy games that go for a real life look. I think the artistic style is great but I know they are still working on the game and assets so I expect it will look better by the time it's released. For this sort of game I think Graphics are certainly secondary to gameplay though, I also think this style will make it easier for p
I agree with the idea that aiming needs to be seperated from damage, in order to make the combat system tactical in GC3 you would have to add more complexity under the hood.
Umm, Moo3 was the reason I bought GC2 and it's expansions. I'd been following Moo3 development having loved Moo2. Then it comes out and it's frankley rubbish, broken and unplayable. The biggest sin of Moo3 was it wasn't any fun to play, it was like playing with dozens spreadsheets, the game could also play itsef without any player involvements. Space battles where rubbish, ugly and unrewarding. The tradgedy is they had some good ideas, the way races and species worked was fun the dipl
[quote who="ckessel" reply="15" id="2322758"] On the other hand, those here are by definition those most interested in the game, and thus the ones who would be most likely to complain about a later release if at all. Those not here are probably not following the game closely and are probably less concerned. True, but the game isn't really created just for those most interested or there'd be no sales justifying bothering to create the game. It's all a shade of grey I
As far as concerns that this forum doesn't represent the audience for this game, ToA had an extended beta and hardly anyone seemed put out by it most appriciated it. Very few people in the press or on forums seemed put out.
A big yes I remember the extended beta of ToA fondly, it gives us a better product in the end gives you lots of free beta testers who can make suggestions and judging by ToA it will be fun in itself. Ok I'm pre-ordering
I actually think they should seperate textures & model elements in the ship designer. They can then link texture both to ship size and the application of certain components, for Example; Different types of armour could have different textures, as could organic hulls such as the Iconians have. Overall I do think the graphics in GC3 should be better however you do have to keep in mind that art is expensive. Talking of, lets ditch the tech robot, I want
I have to disagree with the comment that all online communities are as virtiolic as this one. Gal Civ 2 for instance had a great and very positive forum, still does. Elemental too has a largely positive and constructive community. I think there are two reasons this community is as it is; 1. The game had some really bad multiplayer issues when it went live, Stardoc have put a lot into fixing this, but the damage was done people where understandably frustrated. I can und

To be honest I can understand some people who can't afford to buy a game, students, etc, pirating it, no it isn't right but it's understandable. What I can never understand is people who envisage moral outrage at the suggestion that their actions might be considered theft, and have a sense that they are entitled to the results of years of several peoples hard work for free. Pirates here seem to be shameless and their sense of entitlement to the game, suggests to
