A better analogy would be: How hard can it be to take an ordinary car and make it amphibious? It can be done, but you have to know what you're doing, have access to parts and documentation - you also need to fundamentally change the propulsion system (rather, add a new one). And this change is more or less the same when trying to 'mod in' multiplayer. Maybe you can really make your car float by sealing off large parts of the chassis. Maybe you can even make it go the forward in

Ascension starbases are defenseless by design last I heard. Are you sure the AI doesn't build ascension bases? The last few games I played they did. You don't automatically see them through the fog of war though, so it might appear as if the crystals are still unclaimed. As for the Terror Star subject... that was brought up a million times during beta. They aren't meant to win games, they are meant to show off your power. Although I have to admit, the speed IS slow - best way i
Custom Candidates pic. doesn't show up. Shows up as Blank.
This is something I noticed happens only occasionally. I made a custom candidate using the default parts, and the portrait shows up. However, making a candidate with previously locked parts (the Drengin ones) indeed results in an empty portrait.

It seems so far that I can avoid reboots if I - have the EA Download Manager running (with the hotfix update) - use the options panel to load creatures or exit the game directly. Still, very odd behaviour. I also tried a beholder. It works sort of, if you include arms. I'll post a screenshot this evening.

Plus the fact that you can actually do stuff while the AI moves, the diplomacy would have to be recoded completely, ship designs, logos, consistency check on data files, AI interaction with multiple human opponents, the whining of the 'imba' MP crowd who can't deal with a game that has actual differences between races, host/client communication, the host component itself, cheatproofing, ... As an actual software developer, I find the assumption that MP is something that could be [B]mod

Here's my rather disappointing submission for Team E. It was, without doubt, the win I had the hardest to work for ever - usually I prefer setting that are close to 'rare all' with maybe three opponents on that galaxy size. Yes, they can now boast to be less restrictive than their competitors... That the whole DRM business was a gargantuan leap in the wrong direction in the first place - no mention of that. ;) (PS: I always wanted to use the word 'gargantuan' in a legit post. :D )

Also, if you put a factory on, say, a 300% bonus tile, you PAY three times the upkeep (specifically, you pay for three times the output). I had one planet that due to a 700% bonus tile lost me 130bc a week. My solution was to build markets over a good portion of the factories (except the bonus one) - production didn't slow down significantly yet I was in the green again.

Hm. Alternative theory: The Y part is indeed the generation, and the MX part is the month of the currenty year in which the design was made? I also think the autodesign feature for the player uses the same naming scheme, which would help figuring this out.

If you activate the option to save your ship design to hard drive, they will automatically become available in future games once the prerequisites have been met.

The Y part is AFAIK a serial number, like the one added to the ships you build. The X part is the generation of the design, so higher numbers indicate a newer design.

I had the same issues. My solutions so far is to turn Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering to 'application' instead of driver choice. With the CCC and tray icon you can easily create a few profiles for the games you play. So far I had only need for three: - All driver choice (preferred) - Adaptive AA disabled - AA control to application That should get you through 95% of the games.
and I've tried turning off as much as Norton as it'll let me
Basically, Norton is your problem. :P (I've never seen a 'security suite' so thoroughly wreck a computer as Norton.) (SCNR)

You declare war. With your military might, they will want peace. So you 'offer' them peace for most of their planets. That's why you need both diplomacy (preferably Super Diplomat so you can do this faster) and military (so they want peace at all cost).
