In terms of DRM, the XBox is just a giant dongle. You can't backup games, you can't even play a couple of XBL games if you registered your account in certain countries, you can't even CHANGE the address of your account(1), patches for games are far and between - instead they rather charge you ~5 Euros for a pack of bitmaps. However, and you're right in that regard, games marketed for XBox simply run. No installation, no driver updates, noone messing around in your registry, eas

That was one of the first things I noticed. I really hope they come up with a different system, currently I can take a stance on maybe three or four issues if I limit myself to 'slightly' and one 'moderately', while the AI has more or less a defined stance on all issues.
Interesting. The TotA problem has been mentioned on the Impulse forums since the Betas. However, other than this issue (which may be due to an old bug in SDC), Impulse so far works great for me. I especially like the fact that I get much higher download rates than with SDC.
Actually, if you read the EULA, EA reserves the right to use your creations not only in the game, but in advertising, websites, expansions... pretty much anywhere. Of course, that's about standard contract when writing software (source code right go to the one who ordered), only with the twist that - with the CC - we PAY EA so they can use our creations. I have to admit, someone at EA is a genius for figuring this out.
Has been known. See the Creature Creator thread.
One question though: The premade candidates seem to have more than just the 100 points assigned to issues. I can only take a stance to maybe three or four issues, while they have a lot more. Is this correct?
Good effort DSep! A note about difficulty: I usually play on tough / challenging, but with ZYW (once I got the strategy ironed out) I can easily play on suicidal - for about double to triple the score.
And I couldn't miss out on running for ruler of Drengi. :D
Two more scenarios? Any hints? ;)
You know... I have almost no interest in US politics. But I had the choice: Buy PM2008 for 13 Euro or buy the Spore CC for 13 Euro. Who deserves 13 Euro more? Stardock or EA? So I spent the 13 Euro on PM2008 just so EA didn't get my money for their DRM scheme. Really, a simple choice. :D
As far as fixing the MCC to do what was intended, who in their right mind believes that will ever happen.
The patch log said it is already fixed in the 1.92 release...
I'd really like to know: What was it in the first place that caused the MCC to be so buggy? How were Stardock not aware of this bug? There must have been countless threads on this specific issue, most of them around beta releases / final release of Twilight. And, for the record, I think it was about time they fixed it. All who are now crying about evil being nerfed: You knew perfectly well that the MCC was a huge exploit. (Although I completely understand the period of mour
They affect the stats, but the animation still uses hands for the attack animations. That spiked ball on your creatures tail may lead to a better attack rating, but it isn't used as a weapon itself. Hence: Weapons -> Fluff. It doesn't make the slightest difference where you put them.
Yep, I tried to make an insect as well... It's okay as long as you do something remotely spider / ant shaped, though. Tails and weapons seem to be pure fluff, which is a shame. I'm waiting to see the full game, though - or the full editor, which apparently is also a demo of the game itself.
You always need a decent military to keep the AI from attacking you, no matter what victory you are going for.
[link="https://forums.galciv2.com/311057/page/13"]This thread[/link] explains it pretty well. Basically it is the same DRM that Windows Vista and XP come with, only that EA is more restrictive about giving out additional activations.
It also seems the Spore demo came with some sort of unwelcome security software that was bad enough to trigger a 'malicious software alert' on my development machine so it had to be installed on an alternate. It looks like a brand new version of Securom, which is a shame because this was a deal-breaker when it came to Mass Effect and Bio Shock (both games I want, but won't buy while they have that protection scheme).
That's exactly what I was talking about. Yes,
To be honest, I didn't check myself (since, admittedly, I already had SecuROM on the computer anyway). I'm fairly certain however, that the 9 Euro 'full' Creator will have DRM. And as far as I can tell, there's not guarantee you get the full game for less - it's entirely up to the stores. At least with the Sims2 bodyshop, you got the whole thing for free. This CC looks to me a bit like the Battlefield Booster packs, which sole existence persuaded me to not buy Battlefield itself. <b
So I take my insignificant product fee elsewhere, even though it will make squat difference to their attitudes.
Amen. One of the worst news was when EA bought Bioware... If only Spore wasn't so *expletive* cool. Still, maybe they see SOME reason until September. Removing the useless three-activation-rule would be enough for me. I mean, come on, the game has a more restrictive DRM policy than the Vista it runs on...
No, in fact the game is so good because it DOESN'T have multiplayer. ;)
Yes, the preference is there, I have it as well. Try the following: Uninstall a game (say, Sins or GC2). Install via Impulse. Choose the path. Impulse adds /Stardock/Totalgaming.net/ after your selection. At least as of two weeks ago, when I installed Sword of the Stars. Chose F:\SotS, got F:\SotS\Stardock\Totalgamin.net - had to copy it manually and update all registry entries as well. I first reported this issue about the time Twilight came out, again in May, in June fo
No. There is a cheat that allows you to switch control to another race, but as far as I know it has a few bugs, since it was never intended as hotseat substitution.
Apparently, their reason is that an 'unprotected' demo would allow the pirates to crack the game easier. Like the two or three days really make a difference...
Interesting tidbit: After browsing some forums, it seems like the free Creature Creator actually brings SecuROM with it. Thank you, EA.
You might also notice that each step of Warp Drive reduces the size of the engine. But yes, simply edit them out of the tech tree file. (I find it slightly amusing that the rather spartanic tech tree of DL is 'too long' though. :D )
