I'm drooling. The pre-order (and Beta!!!!) may actually be the reason to get a credit card.

Maximum number of random minors. This takes away four or five colonisable planets from the real opponents.
Hm. I was overjoyed when I managed my current MVL game (27k), which basically amounted to a ZYW using PI (because of no Super Abilities) but when I check the 'classic' high-scores, I see that I've still got roughly 10k points to go. Let's see if the rule-free environment helps with that...
I find that with .NET and C#, event-based messageing is a lot easier. At least I didn't break my fingers doing it in my server apps I wrote.
Yeah, it's location is fixed in every galaxy. Earth is located at Angle: 225.06, Distance: 7,295.43 pc - you can get your current location by hovering the mouse cursor over the small spaceship in the progress bar at the bottom. Another tidbit concerning the galaxy: The galaxy is the same for all your current games. That means you can visit the planet from another game you're playing.
The global bonus you get from researching speed or live support techs doesn't show up in the ship screen. For example, a ship without engines and Warp Drive research (+10 from Impulse, +10 from Warp) will show speed 1 in the shipyard, but on-map will have speed 3.
Thanks Cobra, I wasn't home so I couldn't check out exact figures. But your findings more or less confirm what I expected.
After you reach the centre of the galaxy and then leave again, you have technically 'won'. The game, much like the Sims, does not end, though.

Personally, I think multithreading isn't that uncommon - after all, it works even with singlecore CPUs. Sound, filesystem IO, AI, anything that streams content, multiplayer components (not only server, but clientside as well), ... There are many places that can utilise propoer threading. If the added development cost is worth it in every instance is another question. Making a complex piece of software threadsafe isn't easy. On the other hand, even in the small g
I long debated if I should order the PC or XBox version. Seeing your 'bad and ugly', I'm for once glad I went with the console. Partly because I knew from Oblivion that most of the UI would be geared towards it anyway, partly because I didn't feel like upgrading my PC or freeing up ludicrous amounts of hard drive space. VATS works, then? That was my main argument for the PC version: First person aiming is so much easier and quicker with a mouse. But then, even in FPS mo
Black letters on black background - you might want to change that. ;)
Indeed. Can't see how I missed that. [e digicons]o_O[/e]
It looks like we have a new champion. KP with 108500, I'm just waiting for his gloat'n'boast post here. ;)
I just wanted to add an interesting info to the 'wording on the package' issue. The German retail of EU says clearly '... beinhaltet erstmals die beiden Erweiterungspacks Dark Avatar und Twilight of the Arnor'. Translation: '... contains for the first time the two expansion packs Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Arnor'. It seems that Kalypso (they're German?) made a simple translation error with the English marketin
Crank the minor races up to the full 8 possible races. That should get rid of any extra planets that the AI may find, as well as provide you with an additional income source from tech trading - possibly gaining you one or two turns before your economy crashes.
Ragnar: For which settings group was that game? Score or speed?
Weel if you wanna meet me half way i'll bring the booze and you bring the food!!!!
Go the other way 'round, meet me in Germany and drink some REAL beer. ;)
Anyone? Currently, if I want to access my system tray, I have to unhide the taskbar from the dock options, do what I want and then hide it again - hardly comfortable.
While technically not an Empire, the Year Zero Club features high ranking, expert players from many origins. It may be worthy of an appearance. ;) My free time is extremely limited, but it may be possible that I can do a shipstyle (especially since the inclusion of the ship designer in the latest beta).
Yet another Kalypso victim. Personally, I got burned by two other products they publish / distribute, so I simply won't buy from them anymore. (Same with Morphicon, btw)
No objections, I know how hard it can be finding time to play during work-crunchtime. An effort as this (on suicidal non less) should definitely be counted.
Wait what did i do?
I suggest you check out your empire. One of your senators (Rank 1, name Tsunayoshi Sawada) is Harbornes latest character. It would be wise to kick him out immediately, or you'll get caught in the crossfire as well.
Some people simply are immune to the effect called 'learn from your mistakes'...
