Ah, but to the [approximately] 3.5 Million members of WinCustomize, it isn't.
I am sure that a huge percentage of those see it exactly as that: A way to make their desktop look nicer or have some cool animated wallpaper.

I thought pretty much the same. Tried out the ObjectDock free version, and... well... bought it. It actually simplifies Windows, since it gives YOU more control how things are displayed and organised. Taskbar? Don't need it, hide it. But I want to keep the system tray. Objectdock does the trick. I don't want lots of messy shortcuts lying around on my desktop, but I also don't want to work through the enormous tree that is the Windows startmenu. Objectdock with drawers a

The problem is allowing HTML in the beginning. It IS a nice feature if users know how to handle it, but it can cause (as seen) a lot of problems as well. I'm not sure how it can be filtered, though. If HTML in itself is supposed to stay, the filter would have to work out what part is 'junk' and what isn't. The problem is only more complicated because of different browsers interpretation of HTML (probably more so if the original code comes from MS Word).

It could indicate stability problems with your ISP. I also experience minor variations in the render time, but on much smaller scale, ranging from 0.5 seconds to about 2-3 seconds. Negligible, really. On the other hand, I have serious problems with Impulse sometimes. Download rates vary from a 350+ kb/s to below 10 kb/s. Extremely annoying when downloading complete games or large patches.

Strange. I could've sworn I replied here... but the forum has been acting a little weird today. Overall I think that the Stardock forums could use some work. The current effort seems to be consolidating all different forums from the Stardock web. I just wish there was more information about what's being planned and worked on.

Space Empires has a resource model - ships have a certain amount of support points that are used up when moving (or firing weapons). This indeed adds a strategic layer, as in colonies with resupply depots become more important. In addition you can sacrifice space on your ship for more fuel or for certain components that replenish your stores (solar collectors). It could be something worth looking at in GC3.

Seems like the registry entry for DA is missing or faulty. This happened a lot in the beginning with Impulse, as Stardock Central wrote the keys different than what Impulse expects. You should be able to either edit the key manually*, or re-install using Impulse. That will also get you the latest version. *) Software/Stardock/Drengin.net/Components - then look for GC2 or GC2DA. The path probably isn't set correctly, if it's the issu

My enormouse Starname collection in conjunction with the Starname Randomiser, of course. :D Instead of a couple of hundred names for your stars (guaranteeing that you'll see the same names over and over again) have over 7000 names at your disposal. In case you're wondering why a randomiser: GC2 seems to always read the starnames from the top, instead of picking random ones out of the file. The randomiser shuffles the list with each start of GC2, so you'll get different names.

I hope your brother pays for your next visit at the movies, because I don't think he'd have second chance without your mediating. ;)

Originally I wanted to ignore this whole issue, but... Just to clarify: - I received multiple empire invitations a month, even when ALL my characters are in active empires. - I don't buy the 'I didn't know it was wrong' excuse for creating multiple characters with one copy of GC2, but that has been dealt with. - Yes, I take offense at 'most' people in my empire being insulted, especially those who care a lot for the game and the community. - Using the Karma sys

I think it has a lot to do with how much you bought into the hype. The same could be seen with Oblivion. People who hyped it endlessly were disappointed. Those who merely expected a good RPG and were prepared for a few mods enjoyed it immensely, myself included. Of course the stages themselves don't live up to competitors like GalCiv or SimCity. They're narrowly focused games specialising in exactly that aspect. Also, you can't loose. You also can't loose in the Sims, a

Hm. I actually missed the release. :D I'll pick it up today though. Any advice on the different versions (normal / galactic)? PS: My Spore playertag is pndrev - feel free to add me. ;)

In theory they should. They are building a lot of starbases anyway, so it should be fine. Might depend on how many resources are generated and where, though.

3 Replies 3,000 Views

I suppose the techtree and component editor would do that. And yes, starbases increase the range of ships - on gigantic and immense maps with tight clusters that becomes both apparent and important. ;)

Don't play the campaigns. This game is about the open sandbox mode. The original DL campaign isn't even playable in TA anymore, since the techtrees are too different. The Dread Lords as a race, for example when spawned by an event, are supposed to be very overpowered. The only solution is to invade them before they get any chance at building up a fleet. And then, you usually still have superior numbers that could make up the difference. However, i

I'd rate it about 7 or 7.5 out of 10. Not groundbreaking, but solid with attention to detail. The scenarios offer a wide selection of difficulties, nice landscape graphics. If you like city building, you'll like Imperium Romanum.

Yep, bought it, tried the training missions and uninstalled. I think the basic idea is good, but the UI really is ... well ... bad. Even the in-between starmap and the 'chat' has wrapping problems where lines overwrite the next one.
