The bio-modulator adds 3 to the planet's quality? I thought the weather control thingy does that.
They both add 3 tiles, though the Weather Control Zenith doesn't give an industry bonus IIRC. What's nice is having both techs :)

The more aggressive, more productive AI really puts the screws to the Thalans with their slow start and low pop. I played 3 games as Thalans yesterday; the first 2 I got wiped out about the end of the colony rush. The third game I survived but it was a near thing. I was at war with the Korath, at one point their combined economic and military rating was 640 and mine was 48 :p I only had a chance because they were at war with everyone else as well. As it was they were sending group
Quick! Silience him!Brad, if you are reading this, don't listen to him! He doesn't know what he's talking about.
You're one of them, aren't you?
That game was pretty frustrating. A survey ship found an unclaimed class 26 planet on the other side of the gigantic map, right on the edge of the Drengin expansion. I was playing Arcaen; I pretty much bankrupted myself rush building first a starport on my closest colony and then the fastest colony ship I could make. It crawled across the map and arrived just ahead of the competition -- in your face, Drengin scum! Then about 10 turns later the Jagged Knife comes along and takes only
I was at war with the Terrans; if they weren't so dead set on taking out my starbases they could have rolled right over me. I had two starbases between their territory and mine, fortified nicely, and each one was absorbing about 20-30 ships per turn. I got just enough constructors through to them, usually sacrificing the escorts each time, to replenish them with repair modules until I could build up enough of a fleet to start counterattacking. The starbases were up to 190+ hp by the time I tu
For the love of pete leave the AI alone. They are getting way too smart for their own good. :D My first beta 5 game resulted in an astonishingly quick and unexpected defeat. I was more prepared for the second game and barely survived. Painful now feels like Masochistic. Absolutely endless hordes of enemy fleets, it's like everyone has the Drengin super ability only they're getting good ships.
Note to designer of the program icon: Excellent! Nice to see the contrast from the Dreadlords. Fire VS Ice.
I say BAh HUMBUG! That silly blue thing replaced my ObjectDock terror star icon without my consent.
Ummm . . . ok . . . note to self: do not even look at ascension thingy until you have the military capability to fight everyone at once.
Ascension could actually make bigger maps play out faster . . .I've explored about 1/4 of a gigantic map and have 7 ascension crystals already.
Still no weapons module for Thalan starbases?
I eagerly await a changelog
I will sacrifice the barnyard animal of Stardock's choice, in order to have the changelog included in the update. :) Edit: changelog is up, but it's a stealth edition. Dark grey text on a black background :D
I asked in the SD Central chat earlier, Carielf said that if it's not out by 5pm, it won't be out today.
Personaly I think this is a good idea
Nothing that takes control of what goes where on my own damn pc away from me, and gives it to someone else, is a good idea.
I suspect though that what will happen is that Microsoft will implement something like that into Games Explorer. Even now, we're forced to have our games run from the Microsoft Games Explorer (MGE) on Vista. All that's left is putting protection on that so that the games are encrypted under it. Then you could instal lthe game to as many PCs as you want but you wouldn't be able to distribute them via torrents or whatever very easily since the actual "thing" is an encrypted blob that
I would lean more toward a view that the spy event is triggered when you are holding a HUGE advantage over the AI, and are perhaps prolonging a victory.
No, I've had it early in the game when things were about even. And since I was playing the Krynn, it ended up giving me a huge advantage since I was able to clear all 45 of the spies it dropped on me, and then start planting my own on the AI while they were still struggling. Also, I was really annoyed to see that this
All jokes aside, yes we are just lucky beta testers by pre-ordering. Having anything of a game 2 months ago was wonderful by itself.
With Ubisoft, buying the game at retail counts as a predorder, and you don't get a working game until 3 or 4 patches later.
Yes, even the Impulse techs would be a huge help. And get rid of the speed penalty, losing out on all the engine techs is bad enough.
Does the counter-espionage thingy remove spies already in place? If so, build them where you need to, and use your own spies to further cripple your opponents.
I started new game to check and they don't show up with blind exploration enabled. So at least I wasn't missing anything. :) I'll go back to my old resource finding habits . . . following minor race constructors.
This way the ONLY big white dots (still free to take) shown are resources.Zoom in & out when necessary. Can't miss.- Zyxpsilon.
Does this work for resources in unexplored territory, with Blind Exploration turned on? If so, I feel really dumb for not knowing it.
I'd like it if automated survey ships would seek out unclaimed resources like they do anomalies.
I did have some new ideas on how the AI should pick planetary improvements though while laying around.
I hope this will mean the end of Research Coordination Centers with no labs, and Quantum Power Plants with no factories. I'd wish for the Thalans to build something besides Embassies too, but that's just crazy talk ;) Edit: speaking of AI, they need to be more aware of targets of opportunity. I just had a military resource starbase destroyed by the Yor; the Terrans h
Fill up a few low quality planets with Cathedrals of Valor (or build one on each planet) and you'll see how useful they can be. Your soldiers will be unstoppable. Sure it might be more efficient to build a stock market instead of a cathedral. But there's no point to different races and different tech trees if you're going to play the same way every time. When I play the Krynn, I build a Consulate, Temple of Krynn, and Order of Krynn on every planet because that's what the Krynn would
I play TA on painful and usually take the max econ bonus, though I'm trying to wean myself off it. When I started it was always max econ + Federalists because that was easiest; now I'm getting good enough at managing the economy that I can try different combinations without getting slaughtered. During the colony rush I expand as fast as possible while keeping my deficit less than 100bc/turn (and only colonizing the highest quality planets unless I need an outpost in a strategic location
Are you sure about the pinned posts showing up at the bottom etc? I think it's just that pinned posts are showing up in recent posts if they've been updated. Like they should have all along. I don't really mind not having the stickies show up, they shouldn't be included separately with the new posts anyway if they haven't been updated. I wish there was an feature (like every other forum has) to go to new posts for a given forum, and see only the new posts. Not the stickies, and not the rece
