Funny how any race works so much better if they start with a Precursor Library. I started a new game with the Arcaens to troubleshoot my disappearing Stellar Forge problem and got one on the first try. So then I had to play that game through and kind of forgot why I started it in the first place.
Is that why the Arcean Flagship has a speed of only 1 pc/week?
That has to be an unintended consequence. The Arcaen speed penalty is bad enough without crippling the flagship.
I hated the older versions of Civ where anyone could cross your borders and build a city anywhere they wanted to, but I don't mind GalCiv's open borders at all. It's a different game with different game mechanics. There's nothing to "take care of".
I'm still hoping for some major changes to the Thalans, but it's getting pretty late for that.
Just making the factories and labs accessible from the start would be a huge help. As it is, the amount of research it takes to get to a basic Thalan factory or lab is more than it takes other races to acquire the technology to obliterate them.
No changes that I can see. Their super ability is still essentially useless.
I think Brad's friend Bruce is missing something when he criticize Galciv 2 for lack of multiplayer. that is a game's replayability value. if a game do not have multiplayer value, then for it to have long shevle life, it needs to have great replayability value.
Totally agree. A strategy game's value is in the infinite replayability of single player, and I don't want to see one minute of dev time diverted from this to multiplayer. A regular FPS is different, you play through it
6B is up!
Now we need the changelog to decide what new features to try to break first :D
Too late, I was just trying to start a game with them to troubleshoot the Stellar Forge issue, I went back to my game in progress after the crash. If it happens again I'll try to remember to get the debug.
Curious, now I can't start a new game with that custom race, as soon as I select the race it crashes every time.
In 6a the SF is still listed as a Galactic Achievement in both the build list description and the build completed popup.
I remember my economy was worse than I thought it should have been, and I looked on my homeworld and saw an empty tile. Wow, how did I miss that? I should build a market center there! Then a few turns later I was like wait a minute . . . that tile wasn't supposed to be empty . . .
Already using the latest driver for XP. Previously (as in from when I originally got DL until this beta) when the game crashed when alt-tabbing it was with the standard "this application has encountered an error" message. The "invald call" is new to this version. Length of time it's been running doesn't seem to be much of a factor. I'll install SmartException and see what it says.
That was notepad. The forum is just sucking, it didn't recognize any line breaks. I had to use the horizontal bar to separate my post from the debug. I've tried windowed mode as well as fullscreen, I've probably alt-tabbed in and out of the game a thousand times since I first got GC2, it has never crashed anywhere near as frequently as it does with this latest beta.
TA beta 0.98a[b].003 In previous betas TA would crash infrequently when returning after alt-tabbing out of the game. This version crashes at least 90% of the time. They're called Mega Events for a reason. And 18 planets is nothing :) I like this event. I don't necessarily concentrate on getting my planets back --only the good ones. I take advantage of the opportunity to seize high PQ planets in strategic locations all over the galaxy without getting into a war with a major race.
Yes, which is exactly why I pointed out just that in my post.
My point was that you've created a scenario that maximizes the Thalans' strengths, minimizes their weaknesses, and is not at all representative of the way most people play. Performing well when everything is set up in their favour, does not mean they aren't crippled in a general sense.
Of course the Thalans are going to be relatively strong when everyone only has 3 or 4 planets, because Thala with all their Galactic Achievements is a very strong planet. But if everyone has 30 or 40 or 100 planets it doesn't matter how good Thala is. The output of any one planet will be insignificant compared to the empire as a whole, and the other Thalan colonies won't be contributing anything but influence while the other races are building up a huge population base and widespread infrastru
There are those terrible moments when you realise that, for example, that Hyperion starbase module you just installed contains more armour than god, but not a single weapon
I've complained about that so many times that I think the devs are leaving that issue until last just to spite me. And deservedly so! ;) But I really, really want to be able to start a war early in the game and watch endless fleets destroy themselves attacking a decoy starbase with ungodly high atta
It may be a viable strategy. Anyone agree or disagree?
Totally agree. Not much use starting with a building that's far too expensive/time consuming to actually build anywhere but the homeworld in the early game.
When I play the Korath I always end up evil but unless I'm in dire financial trouble I don't build the MCC in order to take full advantage of Dark Influence. I think that's my favourite improvement in the game.
The Iconians are always amongst the most powerful AIs in my games. Decent tech, lots of influence and a big military.
I think 2% is too low, since in tiny, small (or even medium maps without a lot of habitable planets) they would be better off just building another stock exchange.
On a related note, I think that sometimes percentage based bonuses are broken. Planet quality comes to mind. If something gives a PQ bonus it should have a one-tile minimum. Otherwise you often end up with a bonus that doesn't actually do anything, or adds tiles only to the rare really high PQ worlds -- the ones that
