Trying to remember what happened, I think I lost my Stellar Forge when the Arcaeans built theirs. I'll see if it happens again next game.

In my humblest opinion you cannot just rape the religious vocabulary of one world religion and use it as a commonly slang word for "holy war", which may be the literal meaning in its native language, but does not keep track of the whole deepness of its meaning. By the way - i am christian and i would as well not appreciate everyone calling taking a sh*t by the word "genesis".
The trouble is, no one else is required to care about any deepness of meaning you give to something.
The Thalans definitely need some better starter buildings. Heck, ANY starter buildings (the double-damned Embassy doesn't count). As the OP said, if you don't get a Precursor Library to plunk the Hyperion Matrix on, you're screwed. By the time you research a factory or lab (which you won't be able to build anyway without going bankrupt), the other races have already got advanced weapons, big fleets and have probably wiped you out. I'd like to see some Iconian/Krynn style jack-of-all-trades t
I've noticed recently that the AI seem more inclined to all build the same type of weapons.
Weirdest thing happened tonight. I was playing a custom race with the Arcaean tech tree and built the Stellar Forge on my homeworld. Quit the game, restarted a while later and no SF. I didn't notice for quite a while, I was just barely holding off the Drengin and had other things on my mind. I just noticed my economy was tanking, started looking around and WTF? I was in trouble, no money, getting behind on tech, losing what few ships I had . . . Well, the game taketh away with one hand
No need to get overly pedantic. Whatever the specific application to Islam, the literal meaning of the word is "holy war" or "holy struggle" and it's being used appropriately here. Just as "crusade" has common usage and need not refer specifically to historical events involving Christianity. If you want to nitpick about it, I suggest starting with Frank Herbert.
I tried the Pink Blob of Doom method on a small map last night. Worked great. But it works much better with a race that can build up a decent population. I also tried a custom race with the Super Hive ability and was amazed at how powerful it was when it wasn't tied down by a race that, for all intents and purposes, can't build any factories because they take forever to research (because you can't build labs either) and then they're too expensive to build anyway :(
I saw something mentionned about finnally fixing the tech trees so that some races can get to build decent starbases. I just played a game as Yor w the new beta and there isn't any change i can notice in the tech tree to accomodate starbase/mining modules. Am I missing something or is that a bug?
AFAIK, races with non-terran type factories still can't get over 14% resource bonuses, and the Thalan Hyperion Starbase tech still doesn't give a mining or attack module. The Sin
Not sure if this is a new Beta 6 bug because I haven't played the Iconians since beta 3 or 4, but it's got a black square in the build list and nothing at all on the planet tile.
At the top of the improvements list there are tabs to show old or new improvements. Also handy for newly colonized or conquered worlds where you want to build a factory or something, but it would take 40 turns to buid the latest and greatest. But mostly I use it to pick exactly the right farm(s) to build given a planet's morale and food bonuses.
You can still build them.
Same maint. as the enhanced xeno farm. I've built a few distribution centers, but I rarely find them useful.
Much cheaper just to build one of the lower tech farms alongside your new one if you want a few more billion people.
They bribe every other race to declare war on me, and then must come to my defense due to the Altarian super ability. Then they declare war on me themselves because of my "wars of aggression" -- when I was the victim in each case, and every war was instigated by them.
It gets better. After a few dozen more turns, the Drath inform me that they will no longer tolerate my wars of aggression, and declare war.
I was getting message after message: "We've been well paid to take care of you" until every race but the Drath had declared war on me. It's pretty obvious who was responsible for the bribery. BUT . . . I was playing the Altarians. And every time the Drath bribed someone to attack me, they would have to declare war on them in response thanks to my super ability. In the end it was me and the Drath vs. everyone else. Maybe they wanted to be at war with everyone and needed an ally. :D
At least you don't have to pay maintenance on them anymore :D
I love the Harvester, especially on a 300% bonus tile. That gives you 18B pop cap which is about right, and the growth bonus get you there quicker. Minor races all seem to have this tech so it can get a bit out of hand when they build it on a farm bonus -- 20B is manageable with the civ capital morale bonus, 28B isn't. Just like when the Thalans build the Hyperion Matrix on a farm bonus ;p
There seem to be two branches of the tech tree -- one through Space Superiority and one through Fleet Defenses -- that both give the Xalax/Zalon techs.
The only time that sucks Lord KiRon is when you just finished Manufacturing Centers and it procs Industrial Sectors. There went your economy if you weren't repaired.
Why? You can always cancel the upgrades, or change some factories to econ buildings. I've never understood the whole "industrial sectors ruined my economy" thing.
If there's an aggressive race anywhere close, the Thalans are dead. Early in the game the Drengin or Korath will be using the awesome power of their Basic Slave Pits and Slaveling Imagination Labs to roll right over you while you have absolutely nothing in the way of economy, research or industry ;p Interestingly, if the AI Thalans survive the early game they often have the highest ranked military (or 2nd if the Korath are present, but then again if the Korath are present the Thalans
IIRC, techs now have 2 properties, CanBeTraded and CanBeStolen. I'm wondering if farming techs are non-stealable because I've played several Immense Thalan games, invaded hundreds of planets and never gotten a farming tech. The pop cap for Thalans is just brutal, more than ever with the AI being a little tougher now.
I think the Arcaeans have something like that as well, war rooms iirc.
I misspoke; I meant having both improvements, not necessarily having both techs. The minor races seem to have access to them and the improvements will remain after you invade, so if you have one of the techs you can end up with some planets with both Weather Control and Biosphere modulator if you invade the right people.
I suggested this a while back. Bump for support. :D
