I can see businesses using it for presentations, web page devs and such but for the average user, like skinners and others who just want to have fun with graphics, it wouldn't be worth it.
Of course not. But for non-professionals there are free (and quite powerful) alternatives, such as GIMP you can use as well. I don't really see that Photoshop was ever INTENDED to be targetted at casual or infrequent users. It is intended to be and priced as a professional tool for gr

Actually there are several reasons to rent the software when you think about it: - You will always have the latest version, no upgrade charges or having to re-purchase if you switch operating platforms (like going from XP to Windows 7 or moving to a Mac platform) - You can rent it on a project by project basis as needed for just the tools you'll use - You can BILL IT OUT to a client on a project basis for just the tools you used on that project and point to a real

A big part of the reason game companies are no longer "pushing the envelope" on hardware specs is that many are coding games (if they code them for the PC at all) to also run on an XBox and/or PS3. That sets the performance limit for a lot of game companies in order to keep the largest possible audience to make back the increasingly huge investment needed to develop a top flight game. The result is that PCs now need to be updated for gaming about as often as you would update a console. On the

I am not going to try to give you advice on the components, as you didn't mention what your budget was :) As for the Windows 7 version, for what you are doing there is no real reason to get Ultimate. Home Premium should meet your needs.

On a similar note, people might like KidZUI (www.kidzui.com). It replaces the browser and leads to pre-screened pages for kids. Another good resource is Norton Online Family. I use the former with my four year old, the latter is more suitable for older kids (tweens or so.)

I want to be able to use and create my desktop in the same way as a web page. Think of the desktop as a canvas upon which you can lay out any sort of thing you want using a WYSIWYG editor and/or markup language. I should be able to put controls, embed video, clocks, monitors, what have you on the desktop. Let ME define the interface to replace the current Windows GUI. Entirely. Make it easy to create and edit, in the same way that it is pretty easy to create web pages. Supply

The reason I did it by adding the transparent area to the top of the graphic is that you can get the first line of text for both the Programs list and places list to start at the same place without a lot of "dead space" at the top of the start panel. The way to do this is to use your favorite graphics program to edit the graphic for the start panel top. You add some empty (transparent) area above the image and then change the image size in Skin Studio. It isn't that hard, but exactly

I have had this problem before too. It has to do with the USER ICON, even though you don't have it showing you need to leave room for it. I fixed it by adding some transparent space to the top of the start panel. That fixed the problem for me perfectly.

The remarkable thing here is that skins that go up on Wincustomize are on that site THE SAME DAY. I think it might be time to tie all (Master at least) skins into the registration system of Impulse. How hard would that be Stardockians? And the reason these sites can flourish is they have almost no operating cost. ANY money they make from scamming you, stealing your data using their "custom script based downloaders" that install trojans, malware, etc. is free profit for them. It's trul

I haven't yet broken down and purchased a master blind in the several years I've been using Object Desktop... but I think this will force me to do it! Awesome looking work, seriously exceptional.

Hi Neil, This is on Windows 7. I am not sure if it is Fences, that could be. I *think* I disabled Fences while I was trying to fix this, but I can't remember now. I do know uninstalling Deskscapes does fix it. Reinstalling then has everything working again. This is not the first time I have uninstalled Deskscapes due to this problem. Works for a while then kaboom the problem comes up again. It is a strange bug somewhere for sure one way or another! Thanks for you

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem... I have the latest version of all the main Stardock Object Desktop software installed (Windowblinds, Iconpackager, Fences Pro, Deskscapes.) Periodically the desktop fonts go all haywire... for example they just DO NOT show up at all unless you select an icon. Even then they are often odd looking. The only way I ever seem to be able to fix the problem is by UNINSTALLING Deskscapes. Thoughts? Happy Independence Da
