Yes. Sounds like you were using the latest DELL drivers (which in my experience are quite often very out-dated).

I'm assuming you mean you're lagging in late-game scenarios when you say "I eventually begin to lag..." This is CPU-lag, and not network lag. SINS is purely P2P which means that each and every player's computer simulates the ENTIRE game locally and the "host" only SYNCS the game together. Suggestions: 1. Play with less total players (ie. lower the number of AI 2. Play with smaller fleet sizes 3. Try not zooming into the bigger battles
Sounds like a video driver issue to me... Unfortunately notebooks (unless they run the latest video chips) are usually left behind in driver-support. 1. Check to see if the driver from Dell's site is newer/older than the one on ATI/Nvidia's site (whichever chipset you have). 2. Sometimes installed video codecs (like the one's that come with DivX for eg.) can cause game - resolution issues. Here's a quote of a post I made to another thread: <br/
P5yy, Forwarded ports aren't much of a risk unless there is something actively "listening" for traffic on them (ie. SINS or other software listening on said ports). So if SINS isn't running...... you get the picture. Personally, I do however disable all port-forwarding when I don't need it to be in place. (especially since these days it's usually a check-mark or two in one's router config) the Monk
Serated, I absolutely recommend you go for the beta version as Thawn716 stated, I've tested the new netcode (Alloy) and posted my findings in [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/319195"]this thread[/link]. If however you prefer to run version 1.05, then you will need to forward the traffic as I described. The clan-site through which my guide(s) are being hosted is back up (I am going to be moving them to another website soon so that this doesn't happen again) so
Is it me or does the link to the pdf not work?
My apologies, the clan-site went down on friday and being a weekend is proving hard to get back up. If you want the guide right now, please contact me via xfire or MSN, and I'll send you the guide immediately. xfire: the1monk MSN: Sorry for the inconvenience. the Monk EDIT: the clan-site (through which my guide is being hosted) is back up. Please see [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/319195"]this thread[/link] in reference to whether or not Alloy (the new MP netcode) works as advertised. :)
In [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/319195"]this thread[/link] I posted the steps I took to test the "Alloy" netcode. You'll notice that I had all port-forwarding, NAT-relaxing disabled and all firewalls (software and hardware) enabled during my test. The "IP not visible" is related to "WAN ping" being denied by most routers by default. (if you want that message to change you'll have to enable WAN ping on your router). I'll be more than happy
SINS is P2P, this means you'll need to forward all traffic to the SINS-required ports (TCP 6000 and TCP 6112) from your router's to your PC's IP before it'll work. I wrote a guide (Networking and SINS) linked-to from my sticky in the "Technical" forum detailing the steps needed to be successful at hosting. For some reason our clan website is experiencing difficulties so if just telling you which ports to forward isn't enough information for you (you need a copy of my step-by
I'm playing the original version. I had hoped I had purchased an updated version.
Everyone's "purchased" version is 1.0 (all retail versions are 1.0) The patches are optional and put out by the DEVS "free-of-charge" for those who want to use them (obviously you will only be able to play multi-player with the SAME version as the people you want to play with). In other words.....your money bought you version 1.0 of SINS (and if you re
There will also be less in version 1.05 Multiplayer as more and more people try out the 1.09 (1.1 beta) Multiplayer. For obvious reasons the two are handled on seperate servers.. the Monk
You'll be happy to know that I can confirm that that is, indeed, quite sad.
Damn...what I meant was.....oh whatever Anny.....you win! ;p
This assumes that most or all people playing the online persistent campaign mode woudl have been just playing tournaments. I can assure you that is not the case. I know plenty of people, myself included, who won't do traditional on-line ranked games anymore, just don't have enough patience with that. The persistent online campaign, by contrast, is something I would totally get into.
Frogboy, :CONGRAT: agreed! I had enough of the online-ladder-stat-pa
...and what exactly have I done to be tortured so? X-( beta....beta.....where art thou? :d
Be sure to tell them that when they grow up. "You damn kids are the reason I'm so damn grumpy"
I tell them that now... ;p
Nope you won't have to buy it again, just register one of the copies you already own with SD on IMPULSE and you'll be able to download it.
As you'll notice in the OP of [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/319195"]this thread[/link] in the BETA FEEDBACK section, I was able to successfully host even with that message being displayed.
Try un-installing SINS completely and re-installing via Impulse. That way you're downloading the already patched-to-beta version and not having to wait for the update server to look through 800+ changed files... This was suggested by Yarlen on IRC and some people have already been having success doing it that way...
 wow Anny......our posts are almost splitting seconds now (18:21:08 - 18:21:22)... ;p ...and no you don't, you can't just take the focus off of you that easily. You're here helping with much more than just hosting. You deserve a medal Anny, especially for the art of diplomacy you exercise. I tend to be more.... (how should I put this....hehe.....hell I'll blame it on having 3 children...lol) direct...that's it! hehe
Finally TheMonk can start playing Sins
:D I won't be around to play until the weekend. I might be on ICO though, just for the "familiar faces"; although without the need for my hosting-help I doubt I'll have much to say...hehe
Then I guess it might be a "bad save" that just won't work anymore? I haven't had that happen, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Have you tried load another save-point from the same game? Wait...you're changing the resource amount on a game load?
1. I disabled all port-forwaring, made sure NAT-filtering wasn't relaxed etc. and made sure all firewalls etc. also enabled. 2. Loaded SINS 1.1 3. Clicked "Host Setup" 4. Clicked "Run Hosting Test" (making sure use "Alloy" was checked) 4. After the test completed it showed "IP is not visible" in red next to "Hosting Capability" 5. Attemp
How about I just PM you with any bugs Anny? Your "phrasing" is so much better than mine..hehe ;p
lawlz...... I haven't gone to bed yet maybe I should get it first? :d hehe
Please make sure you un-isntall the demo completely before attempting to install SINS.
