Yeah, thats what I thought, but anyone who can read could easily solve their hosting problems and such by reading your guide.
You'd think so! Just today after linking someone to my guide in ICO, he popped back in less than 2 minutes later saying something to the effect "read your guide....forwarded the ports.....still doesn't work". It turned out he'd skipped everything else in the guide and only read the part relating to the two ports needed for SINS. After b

@ ServiusVivo Yes, 1.1 will give us optional (those of us not wanting game-traffic "tunneling" past our controls hope it remains optional) netcode that'll eliminate the need for port-forwarding etc. I realize for some (those at university dorms etc. ) port-forwarding isn't really an option and therefore optional NAT-T type netcode in v1.1 is required. the Monk

@ BlueSolitaire You do know that the term "mini-dump" is a generic name for "game-crash" (remember "illegal operations" in Windows?) so for any 10 people the actual reason for the app-crash could be (and most likely is) as a result of something completely different.

Those of us who purchased the Collector's Edition have such information, now those who didn't buy the CE want it as well? hmm... :p There are of course tech-charts all over the internet....you'll excuse me if say "find em yourself" :)

@ Samodelkin Day of release (Feb 4th 2008) I hosted, ran a netstat and confirmed that TCP 6112 (port used for game-traffic) and TCP 6000 (port used to transmit wins/losses to ICO etc.) are the only two ports required for SINS. You can read all of the information necessary in the guide I wrote (Feb 14th/08) called "Networking and SINS" linked-to from the the "Technical FAQ" not the regular FAQ. thanks, the Monk
I am pretty bummed by this new upcoming patch. I had hoped the the multiplayer connection issue would be resolved in 1.04. Some of you have apparently figured out the workaround, but for most of us it is totally Greek. I have read several of the instructions--ridiculous. Every other game for the last 10 years have figured out multi-player connections---why can't this team?
@ PaladinSmith There is no "work-a-round" , just the way it needs to be do

There is a difference in the game files, simple as that. Make sure that there aren't any mods enabled. the Monk
I don't even have access to do that. I am using a university network.
@cscoles As has been pointed out several times by the Devs and others (incl. myself) patch 1.1 will allow those who cannot/choose not to/refuse to be bothered to change their network settings to enable a NAT-T type netcode option for SINS which will "tunnel-past/through" routers and firewalls. Reading is your friend. ;p @AARMSTRONG4 If you're NOT at a university dorm

If you are both plugged into the SAME router then you won't have to do anything with the router, just configure your PC's properly. If you're NOT on the same router, then yes you will need to follow the steps in my guide (not just attempt them as a "last resort" ;p ) to get things working. If you didn't change the password on your router from the factory default, google your rotuer make/model default login and you should be good to go. (btw. depending what make/model of router y
This is confusing.
@ Triztor Please follow the yellow link at the top of the page to my SINS-specific guide which takes you through everyhing you need to do in a step-by-step fashion. Please read my guide carefully, don't skip pages/steps in the .pdf guide and then come back bitching that it doesn't work! :p the Monk

Lag can be caused by any number of things including ISP's filtering traffic for P2P. A buddy I play SINS with (I do actually play this game sometimes ;p ) gets bumped off from time to time by the P2P-filtering his ISP does to him. As far as a release-date for patch 1.1? Sometime in April is the last I heard. Patch 1.04 is the next patch due, but will not include that optional NAT-T netcode. thanks, the Monk EDIT: If you know how to use the "tr
Having read through the forums, i will be expecting a promt reply from the monk.
Am I that transparent? :SURPRISED: Since SINS is P2P (the host really isn't so much a HOST, as Player #1 with the responsibility to sync all player's simulations together) all players (host and clients) should have their networks configured correctly to ensure optimal game enjoyment! Unless you are able to (have physical access to the router at
Which is why I don't think these forums are ready (or really in need) of additional moderators just for the sake of enforcing rules. Nobody needs to be a moderator (volunteer or not) to take the time to answer people's questions or try to help them. The additional ability to lock/delete posts isn't necessary to be actively helping the community and I really hope these forums don't degenerate into the need to have additional "rules enforcing" mods.
:CONGRAT: Am

All of the answers to your questions are in forum "stickies" and the "Technical FAQ". Once again......here is a link to my guide for the ports etc. :p http://www.kiclan.com/monk/networking_and_sins_by_the_monk.pdf just replace the port numbers for the forwarding to the second machine with whatever you've set in the user.setting file. the Monk
lol monk...... u really got the hang of the "do not skip!!" part when i sed i skipped something right ??(curious if yah remeber me)
Umm....hehe If this is also the ICO name/profile you used then I have to sheepishly admit that I do not remember you. :NOTSURE: I do know that there have been many people who've opened my guide pdf, clicked to the "port-forwarding" section and then assumed they'd done everything necessary. Please download, read and follow my guide step-by-step and you'll be fine. (I'm finding people are skipping pages/steps and then complaining that things still don't work.....don't do that. :) ) The "Networking and SINS" guide is linked-to from the bottom of the "Technical FAQ" thanks, the Monk
