WTF is GCCG, GC is probably GalCiv, but why would I care about it's center of gravity?

Way back when I actually did coding, you used to be able to bind the DLL to the program. This keeps you out of DLL Hell. With common configurations of 256MB system memory, whats another 385K among friends.
I lean toward good, but can't resist this 15-35% planet quality bonuses. I do agree that neutral is a valid choice and something special should be reserved for them as well.
Make sure you have any proxy stuff like Naviscope disabled. I hope they fix it soon, but none of the authentication or download stuff works with this type of browser blocking/acceleration in place.
GIA is no longer in use. However, I could see it resurrected if they add a suggested "security" slider that will allow you to find and neutralize destablizing influences from other races.
Not yet. It has been a topic of discussion. I beleive that there will be sliders for the governers that will override the galactic sliders. YMMV, IANADeveloper.
I played the OS2 version and was in early on Drengin, which entitled me to participate in the beta and download the final. Because of, unknown at the time, issues with Naviscope interfering with the login process, I also bought a copy at $40 retail as well. We resolved the issue prior to actually installing the retail copy and it is sitting on top of my computer. It will probably be a present to one of my nephews for Xmas. I just have to figure out which of my siblings is best suited to cope wit
BTW, I think in 1.03 they added "on the fly" feed back. Just move the slider until it turns green then kick it with the arrows one way or another to zero in on where it is no longer green. Still pretty mindless, and the ability offer and counter offer would be nice, not just cash. If the ask for something you did not offer and you oblige or decline it should affect your diplomatic standing. The AI seems to tend toward outrageusly unbalanced trade offers when they are spontaneous, hopefully somet
Add a "sugar in the gas tank" tech for spies that would immobilize a ship in orbit. It would, of course, require the "flaming bag of dog poo in the airlock" tech.
There also needs to be counter-espionage. Starships Unlimited http://www.apezone.com is an interesting cousin to GC with a good replay/dollar ratio. They have a free demo that runs for 100 turns. You (and the AI's) have a probability of uncovering spies from other civilzations and discovery of espionage modifies your diplomatic relations. The probablity is controlled by a "Security" sllider. It seems kind of cheesy that all the spying and de-stabliztion takes place with no defensive capablities
>B.O. said: wouldn't have worked the same way with independent countries I am, by no means, an expert in history or global/galactic economics. However Heinlein seemed to make a pretty good case for the profitability of multi-leg trade routes in COTG. Jason, Are you referring to http://www.classic-games.com/tradewars/ Just glancing aroung what a dogpile search turned up, it seems to be stagnating. I am sure that Stardock can come up with interesting twists on
The assertion appears to be display driver related. Previous suggestions by Carielf have been to make sure you have the latest drivers and if you have Direct X v9.0 install v9.0a from the Microsoft site.
I know Brad does not want to user selectable load-outs, but I think consideration should be given to ships that "carry" whether attack craft or missles. Counting the AMM as a ship and factoring it as a military strength seems cheesy. Also, the base code for ships is going to have to change if any semblance of balance is going to be achieved. Each ship is going to have to have fields added holding the "current" value of attack/defense/speed in addition to static max values. This will allow fleet
Definately should be done in a tech tree fashion. The little bit of research I did showed potential for some really complex capabilities. I am not sure how you would emulate rivers like the Nile/Tigris/Euphrates in GC, but am confident that the once the developers sink their teeth into the project something good will result.
An excellant suggestion. I always thought that having to use military force to destroy a trade route was a little one sided. Any developer can do a "my ship is bigger than your ship" game. I firmly believe that the depth of diplomacy and trade is going to be what sets GC far above the others current or future.
I bumped this mostly for a sanity check. As it never got a response from the beta community and I was left to wonder if I was the only one to find this concept interesting. If it wont generate sales, not much point in putting resources towards it. Put them toward "Mobilization", I like what Brad has said about what he wants to do, and it would be nice to have his touches added to a "Total Annhiliation" style game. Should have put this in the bump :p
>AI get that far without you, then you've blown the game anyway They are not that far ahead of me. If I did not have to compete in a silly-ass arms race to stay alive, I would get more pleasure out of the game. They happened to have a good starting game position that allowed them more than normal resources. I don't "peek ahead" into the tech tree and got caught flat-footed with, in my opinion, very unbalanced upgrade in their military. I feel I did things right, researching and implementing
You could still play that way. Just use the normal "Make Peace" and I can see where I might use that stategy on occasion too. Other times I just don't have the patience for it. I usually do not find the battling particularly enjoyable, but you lose quick if you do not keep up your military, so I get dragged into the arms race agains my will. It would be interesting to have the ability to declare your neutrality military wise and be able to try influence things behind the scenes with the reso
I guerss I am just lazy, but with Alliances should come a "Make Alliance peace traety" which will encompass the Allied races on both sides. I found it to be a real PITA to try and coax 3 opposing races and 1 ally into a treaties. Let me talk to 1 representative on the opposing side, speak fo my alliance and either accept or reject the terms. Let the enginge handle the details of ending the wars. I was constantly chasing my tail, as soon as a worked a settlement another war declaration would pop
I think the Excalabers are WAY out of balance. I cant take one out with constant stream of Overlords. 17 movement points! They can't even get close until one starts ripping my defenses to pieses. It attacks untouched against 4 battlehammers in orbit around a planetary defense/system defense/omega defense. I think the battle system needs to be revised. The result of a battle should affect not only hitpoints but attack, movement and defense ratings that will recover as the HP are
I can spell, really I can. I just can't type. Any chance of having a spellcheck button to use before submitting?
Had this in 1.022zb version. Also had a few of 13/14 class planets colonised. You have to do this to have enough miltasry production when planets are "rare" even in a gigantic galaxy. If I turn it up again tonight after upgrading to 1.03 I'll try abd send in a zip of the save game directories.
I have added about 6 to STARS.LST and still have yet them in a huge game. If I can't get it ti work there, hows a separate file supposed to work? If I had my druthers, it should read local .LST first and use them before the distribution names.
Instead of mofifying the distribution file "STARS.LST" will GC see a MYSTARS.LST file and append the new local names list and crate stars using them?
