paxx.. mac os9 is plagued by crashes, as you know. this is because it uses shared memory - if one program bites it, pretty much the whole os is coming down. mac osx on the other hand is more stable than even win xp [in personal experience.] it uses protected memory, and even if apps crash the os won't. it's an entirely re-designed os rather than just an update or new version, and is based on unix. in fact, people who like command lines have very easy access to a nix terminal from wi

you can use any of the wallpapers posted here as desktop pics for your mac. when you download them, they will appear on your machine as something like 'wincustomize.asp1' etc., etc. drag these files onto your copy of stuffit expander [double clicking won't work in this case, since it won't recognize the filetype by default.] after you drop it on stuffit, they will expand into the image file, or in some cases a folder with several images within. you can apply these images in the usual manner

at one time, years ago, i had a very narrow view of what art, or at least good art, was. i was of the opinion that all these impressionists, cubists, modernists, etc. were all a load of con artists who had managed to pass their churned out tripe off as something special. i felt the classicists were the only way to go. neo-classicists too, for that matter. michaelangelo, raphael, the ancient roman who did that unbelievably amazing bust of julius caesar [the likes of which was never to

on windows the only way i know of to hide the icon text currently is to change the text to non-visible characters though. this should be done with extreme caution though.

it sounds like something else on your system isn't working well with how trayserver handles the systray. the first suspect would be something [other than wb] that puts an icon in the systray, like some graphics or sound cards. if you can't suss it out, try [email protected]

just regarding the mac thing.. in the current mac os, you can change the theme of the entire os by replacing one file. it's similar to the idea of xp styles, but the file isn't encrypted and it's a bit more far-reaching in what it 'skins.' although it's possible to just monkey with the file yourself, it's easy to totally fubar the os that way, so the popular thing is little programs that change the file for you. and yeah, 1000 for a suite of 7-10 apps would be a decent starting place

having spent quite a bit of time studying film [formally] and even more studying classical literature, i'm afraid i came away from the article feeling brin just doesn't understand what he's talking about. it's always easiest to shoot at the big targets

yikes.. i start the thread and then never come back.. sorry.. anyway, yeah it seems as far as the moon landing stuff that people are just really desperate to 'expose' something. they don't even understand the basics of photography or anything. on the larger conspiracy front, i didn't realize, david, that the gov't had actually said the warren commission findings were wrong and there was actually a conspiracy.. did they say anything else? i mean, the warren commission findin

i was surfing around the other day and came across pages and pages of people who are convinced we never landed on the moon. i was wondering if anyone here subscribes to these moonlanding hoax theories?

jafo - hitchhiker's guide? griffinme - wkrp in cincinnati? spiketagger - if you modify one of the default skins, be sure to use 'save as' and pick a new name.. or choose -not- to update defaults when installing updates to the program [this is a recently added option for stardock installs.]

and when do you think apple's first finder gui premiered in public? it was 1984 [unless you count the lisa.] it was inspired [with permission] by experimental work done by xerox. it was then copied by microsoft, who a short time later worked out a deal with apple [which they've regretted ever since.] also, what you're referring to would really not be copyright, but rather trade dress. copyright would refer to the code itself, unless i'm mistaken.
