Grimbar, I know that the ESL has lots of flaws but name one other big well established international league hoster ;) and the benefits for everyone doesn't mean everyone gets the same reward just that there needs to be some small incentive for everyone (or that helps at least), small things like (earlier) access to beta patches.
7) ideally the most competitive game is one where the better player always wins, so luck is not a significant factor
That one is a pretty bad one though. One of the major reasons Starcraft is so much more fun to watch and play than Warcraft is that the underdog has a chance to win - not by means of luck per se but with using cheesy builds and pulling off 1 really good move while in Warcraft the better player wins almost always.
The hardest part though is dealing with the subjective justice parts. For example, we are probably going to go ahead and not count games for the player that exits if it’s in the first 3 minutes because getting an unfair loss is a much bigger deal than someone not getting a fair loss. Better to count it as a disconnect.
Problem of this is that it allows "Dodging" , lets say you are the number #1 player and want to stay #1 , you just leave the games where good enemi
You are right WarlokLord, all maps are unique 3DStudio files, the only thing the Demigod editor does is letting you place the flags, citadels, towers et.c As such making custom maps will be very hard since each one of them require soo much detail.
Not really more than Custom maps for 3D-Shooters. Yah the artistical quality of the 8 official Maps is very high but custom maps don't need to look as good as those if they provide good gameplay.

What does "play like an e-sports game mean"? See I come from the Starcraft Community and probably 90% of them think that Starcraft is the only RTS suited for e-sport and that all other RTS are fail and need no skill to play, especially Warcraft III. If you ask a Warcraft III gamer he will say that Dota doesn't have any depth at all and is for noobs who are to bad for Warcraft III. Now Dota players come and tell me that Demigod had not enough depth (yet most of those guys suck horribly on Demi
It's not well known but Stardock was contracted by Blizzard and GT Interactive some years ago to develop one of the Starcraft expansions. The point being, we are very familiar with the history of Starcraft. It took many years of updates to Starcraft before it appealed to competitive players. It is very challenging to make a game that is fun for the general public but also usable as a competitive game
wow didn't even know about the retribution and insurrectio

well at least you don't have to do doping as you have to do in real sports on the top level ;) Also if you say you enjoy competition and tournaments that is e-sports already. It doesn't need to be "professional" (outside of korea you can't really use that word), in fact 99% of people see e-sport not as serious thing but as fun hobby. The biggest starcraft clan league (BWCL) doesn't even have prizes at all yet there are thousands of people playing it every weekend just for fun. About g

There are some who say that Demigod has "not enough depth" or is "too easy to master" to become a successful E-Sport game. For those who think that is true, let me tell you a little Episode from the Year 2004: Giga TV, a german gaming Television hosted a league called "Giga League". In the first Season they picked 4 Games to be played : CS, UT, Warcraft III and Starcraft Broodwar. As the activity in the qualifiers was rather low they decided to have a qualifier between different games for the

hard to do live shoutcasts without observer mode though ;) giving infos away via observer mode is not really a problem as you could always have no observers in game , just live/with a short delay streamed "replays" as in gpgnet with supreme commander have that potential problem

Ragarth, wasn't that the numbers of total player online and as steam needs you to be online also included singleplayer. Dawn of War 1 has not much more than 1500 players online at the same time I think. 10.000 online at the same time is Red Alert 3 + Age of Empires 3 + C&C 3 together at their best times, so its illusionary or at least incredibly unlikely. also 4000 online at the same time means around 75000 to 100.000 active players which is more than enough.

Its illusionary that Demigod can get a online community of the size of CS or Warcraft III, however something between 2000 to 4000 people online at the same time is certainly possible if they do it right (and the reviews are good). 2000 to 4000 is good enough to always find a game, not always play vs the same guys and to do proper matchmaking without having the skill gaps between different teams to big.
The rating system is not based around favor points as far as I know. It is based more on how well you do overall in each individual game. If you have any suggestions or problems in the way the system has ranked you, feel free to bring them up. At the moment the system is somewhat simple, but we are planning on making it more complex and thorough.
I know you are probably aware of it but if you take any other indicators than "winning" to compute the experience you risk
My point is that to balance demigods correctly itens should be left out of the equation. Balancing itens is important too, dont get me wrong.
You can't leave a single element out of the equation or you get totally useless results, items benefit all demigods differently.
