Look at it this way, I play several different games. What if every game I played forced me to install their hot-new-platform or whatever it is to simply patch the game I bought? Heck, I've installed an average of one new platform per week with just this one game. Again, it's not that I think Impulse is bad or useless or anything like that. In fact, I have no idea what it's supposed to do - besides the updates. Until a couple weeks ago, I'd never even heard of a platform ;p
Wizard1956 hit it on the head from where I sit. Platforms such as this are designed at a Strategic level - not for today only, else the investment put into it never gets re-couped. Its not - as such - needs of "the now" that drives the design and background OEM type facilities (there's obvious limits to that statement in some areas of it), its designing to a prediction as to what the Market needs or wants on a circa 2-5 year view. Early adopters always get the early market share and th
Many option are nice but it is really hard to find the one you want, even if you know its there
Agreed. Especially since I must have selected it in the first place, or rather unchecked it right? I mean I played two weeks with everything fine then all of a sudden no anamolies. ;p
There's always virtualization, as I've mentioned in the past. One program to rule them all, and in the virtual disk bind them (where they can't escape or do anything to your "real" machine)Another software overhead. I'm still not interested. And this is still an attempt at denying the vailidity of my opinion. I don't want Impulse. I won't install Impulse. If that means I don't get updates then I can live with that. Learn to live with the fact that not everyone appreciates being forced to

Thanks kryo! :D I was looking for a selection somewhere in one of the tabs. Now that it's out of sight I am already less frustrated. The whole thing just felt invasive and that dang toolbar was the kick when I was down. :SNIFF!:

Absolutely love GalCiv and everything (except a few bugs) about the game itself. Easily the best AI in a TBS I've ever encountered and I have nothing but respect for the skill of the programmers so please understand I am not trying to berate anyone. I really like the idea of getting updates for GalCiv and expansions. I don't like having to keep installing these other things. I had to install Stardock and do some frustrating things just to buy TA a couple weeks ago. --Actually just to

Hi all, I dont know if these are bugs or not but they are definately not what is supposed to be happening. Let me start by saying everything worked fine for about a week and that I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game as well as checked these issues after I just installed impulse and installed the game via impulse. Here are the problems: (1) Since I played the campaign a few days ago, I no longer get anything from anomalies. Not even a m

Good advice in the above reply. Since my homeworld is the only source of income early on, I land the the colony ship given to me at the start then relaunch it with the min amt of colonists. I launch subesequent colony ships the same way for a while after as well. I get two or maybe three factories on that hw and then go for +income buildings there which differ of course depending on your race. You can always respec that HW later if you have some great tile boost you cant resist maxin

On the interface section of the menu in the game there are two things to check off, Prompt to upgrade, and prompt to pay for upgrade of the Starbase. Other than that, there is little to do for this issue. I would actually like to see a game where only 1 sb is allowed per grid (as an option only to still keep happy those who are sb happy) and be able to turn influence starbases off altogether. The Starbase upgrading on an immense and abundant settings is absolutely brutal.

my point is that packaging sells. you know it, i know it, and the GalCiv team knows it - hence the effort to fake a box on the order screen. if packaging did not help sell the product then there would have been a blank little generic CD sleeve (which is what you really receive) in the spot instead of a well drawn box giving the illusion that you get the typical extras that come in them. (which is not what you get) If the only point is that boxes and manuals don't matter, then I could

It's the deliberate misleading that upsets people. These guys know that a lovely looking box helps sell the product. They know this so well that they paid a guy to draw a fake one! The order site clearly and intentionally shows a sweet-ass looking box as they know it would entice people to buy that product. The exact logic that is used in the design of a box intended for retail stores. Most people who play the game do not post or visit these forums and would have no clue that all
