" Fun games are probably the best value for money on the planet." Computers themselves are quite expensive. But still.
I need a good computer for the other stuff I want to do. Having it game capable (latest at least) is only a few hundred £s every three years. Thats far less than the cost of the bad to mediocre games I buy every year .

It still amazes me that Im expected to pay £30 for a 6 hour game and £30 for a 60 hour game. I don't remember how much time I've spent in Civ, GalCiv, Mount&Blade, Sins, X3 or Arma1/2 but those acount for less than 1% of my game purchases but WAAAYY more play time. Fun games are probably the best value for money on the planet.
Quoting Smidlee, reply 57 Quoting Crassmaster, reply 49 Uhhh...recent studies have shown that the average gamer is in their 30's and married with at least one kid. Gaming is NOT 'for the children'...the politicians just act like it is to create an 'instant controvesy' issue that gets them points from the older generation (aka the ones who have never played a game) without them having to tackle a real issue. &nb

I use hotkeys in max, its much faster that way. I personally like watching video tutorials that show techniques rather than text/screen shot explanations. I started in Milkshape 3D (half-life 1 stuff) so it took me a while to get used to max but once I 'got' the modifer stack its very good. I can model pretty well now, I just have no artistic talent. :P

My view point revoles around one central idea; "Why do they want to stop others doing something?" "Because they don't like it." I hate that kind of thinking, thats all. Maybe thats a simplistic view but I find this to be the most logical. If it helps just ignore the bits

Prototype actualy. I thought it was going to be a silly over the top 'angst' ridden power fantasy. I just didn't realise I LIKE silly over the top 'angst' ridden power fantasys... Its a really fun game. I was suprrised how much I liked it.

This debate, so old. Never ends. I totaly agree that people should have a right to choose to not see whatever it is that upsets them. They have a right not to be forced into hearing swearing within reason (free speach n all). They have a right to not be forced to view sex or gore or mixed race marriage. They have a right to never speak to forgien people if they wish. I totaly support that right. But they should have NO right to stop ME from talking to other race

Carbons tutorial has a good part on converting from binary to text (at the bottom, see "method #1"). To convert the other way - text to binary - you put "bin" where "txt" is. (I think, I put it on a shortcut and just change the mesh file long ago). Im sure there is some tool around here to make it far easier than typing it but I never got round to trying them since i've been working on my max tool heh.

Text and binary versions exist, open it in a text editor to check. If it has TXT at the start its text, BIN is binary (this is the header). If you are using the max sins tool thing, it only supports binary .mesh files. Thats why I suggested it.

You would have to use the converter .exe that converts between binary and text. On a side note Im working on a replacement for the sins max tool someone made atm, it currently exports in text and binary - wish I could finish it faster. [e digicons]-_-[/e]

That is usually caused by the exporter calling the splitmesh code, for some reason on the first loading of the tool in each max session it dosn't like any sub-calls to other files for some reason... I don't know why. I could never fix that... He really should have called the splitmesh then passed the data to the exporter struct in the button handler, I guess? My tool dosn't have that problem as far as I have tested it but it has only been tested on one machine s

Adding points is easy in the text version of the mesh file, you just need to know the position (import into max and get the position from that), the orienation is very simple also. The only reason you would want to export from max is if you changed a lot of geometery. More info on that in this thread https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/363478

You also have Battleground Europe if you want ultra-ballistic-physics but you don't mind your face melting from the Nazi's opening the Ark every time you see something move. Dragon Rising (dons't deserve to be called OFP) is basicaly what R6:Vegas was to Rainbow 6. So yeah, 3 options for the infantry focused wargamer. Arma 2 is my choice.
