On a related note I recently ran into the same problem. I set the game on 'easy' thinking I could have some fun with a sandbox game. However, in the current game the first monsters I've run into was a small group of darkling warriors (fair enough), an ogre, a troll, another ogre, two other trolls, and an Ashwale Dragon, in that order. That seemed a bit excessive; the only thing I could really do was go back to town and wait for it to grow so I got enough goodies to fight those thi
I would love to hear where it is referenced, We used to have base attributes, but they were removed.
Strength, Constitution, Intelligence etc. was referenced in the Hiergemon: Unit Stats. Another question I have not been able to find the answer to: Injuries (the kind champions get after going down), are they permanent or do they disappear over time or can be fixed somehow? Lastly, thanks f

A follow up question, if I may - Strength and such is referenced here and there but I do not see this stat on champions. Could someone elaborate on this? The reason I mention it is that Destiny's Gift (100 mana spell) gives a boost to the 'base' stats - this sounds like str and such - but I cannot find out what effect it actually had. :(

Hi all! I played WoM back in the day and was suitably impressed and depressed by that. Now I am playing Fallen Enchantress and I must say, so far I absolutely love it. :) However, I am in the campaign, and noticed I can research summoning, but summoning seems to eat hit points permanently from the sovereign. This would seem like a really bad thing to do in a (possibly long) campaign. So: Is permanently actually permanently or does it work the same way as

Quoting some interesting guy of old: "Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: The Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. One thing's for sure, medical science is advancing into areas long thought way past science fiction. Personally, I am taking drugs manufactured on a molecular level. We have video and audio signals that can be sent directly into the brain (hearing impaired, blind, etc). With the increased mapping of the brain, the above is becoming not only possible, but approaches the mundane. The future is amazing. And a little frightening. And it's nearly here, too. :) <p

You may want to adjust your faction to your playstyle. If you like captial ships, use Vasari Loyalists. If you move fast enough you will only need to build 6ish civ labs, then 4 cap ships will give you a nice income, and all the research labs you'll ever need and then some. To be honest, I prefer lots of capital shps as well. They are not vulnerable to attrition early on, which is nice, but as others has noted, their damage output is lacking.

I think the OP was mentioning the Vasari SB (Orbalisk? something like that.). It has a (relatively) hard counter; various torpedo or plasma cruisers. It will kill starbases rather quickly, even if they're mobile. They will take their time against a fully upgraded starbase, but then a... quick calc here.. 17k credit investment + unknown but large amounts of metal and crystal should require something substantial to stop. What makes it so strong is its low supply / CP requireme

Yeah, +1 here. :) Really renewed the game for me, lots of new things to do (didn't play diplomacy seriously, so the amount of new stuff and new approaches to how to win is for me awesome!).

It is worth noting that releasing it as another expansion would be bad; it would split the community even further between various expansions. At 29€, I'm not complaining at all, the game is great. :) (I'm just here to find out what that patch just now did, and why I get insane amounts of credits during combat, and then I'll dive back in.).

Release date has been officially announced as April 12th. :) Heaviest tanks I've got is KV-3, Tiger, JagdPanther, and Hummel... so far I think I've liked tier 5 tanks best, though.

There's so much happening in the medical field now - this is just the tip of the iceberg, really. It's both scary and exhilirating. And a little sad for us old geezers out there that could have used some of these things twenty years ago. :)

I believe. I believe in the existence of imaginative people that play pranks. I believe in the gullibility of man. I believe in the power of delusions. However, I do believe there's intelligent life out there. Assuming the universe is unlimited, that is virtually a certainty, but the odds of that life being able to reach or find us, or vice versa, is astronomical, and within our lifetimes, an order of magnitude less. So I don't see it making a difference. I d

There was a fairly comprehensive study on our infrastructure vulnerability to 'cyberwars' done in Norway some years ago. It has probably been updated but back then the 'main points' were: Power infrastructure: Bad: Power companies has tended to convert from dedicated networks and proprietary platforms over to regular internet and windows-based systems in order to cut costs and increase profits. Result: Systems are more vulnerable. Good: However, the power systems themselve

Been playing this a lot lately: The good: Teams are automatically chosen for a mix of artillery, tank destroyers and tanks, and also for correct tiers. (Tanks go from tier 1 to 10). This makes most matches relatively balanced, but not perfectly so - but certainly more balanced than you'd find on most regular servers. The selection of tanks, tactics, upgrades etc. is rich and encouraging. There's a strong sense of 'just one more match!'. The bad: If yo

I'm doing fine with my PC, although it IS running a bit behind now - not the least because the hard drive is on life support and failing. (Nearly 90% of the error correction sectors are used and it sometimes has trouble opening files.). And I bought it back in 2006, and even then it was a fairly cheap machine (1500$ range) with components selected more for low noise levels than max performance. The screen was state of the art at the time, it's still decent enough (Samsung 226BW) but I

While there may be tens of thousands of ISP's, the number of actual cables in and out of the USA is far fewer - roughly 44; less than one per state. As such, if you wanted to isolate the USA from the global internet, it is doable. Similarily, here in Norway there is just ONE hub connecting north and south. The internet is not very vulnerable to random attacks. However, to targeted attacks it is quite vulnerable. I am not so scared of Lieberman's 'off-switch' - suggesti

B5 is a great series - one of the earlier that had a planned plot from start to finish, and it shows. Things that happen in season one suddenly become relevant in season four, that sort of thing. Much better than the 'each episode starts and ends in the same situation' - series designed to run for an indeterminate time. On the other hand, it was a show on a budget, and this shows in the special effects at times, so a bit of suspension of disbelief might be necessary. :( I have to seco

Microsoft made the new version of Microsoft Mathematics 4.0 free. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9caca722-5235-401c-8d3f-9e242b794c3a It's basically a very professional science calculator. Well.... note: 1: Complaints about bugs are less applicable since they've fixed a lot of them. 2: A lot of new ships has been added. 3: Content is expanding continuously. One of the interesting features when I played last time was their weekly episodes - a new mission every week, in ongoing 'mini-series'. This is a fairly novel way to do things, and it works rather well. Ship combat is also done quite well; ground combat is a bit more lackluster but it a

Actually, combating Malaria is one of the primary goals of Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. As such, this patent - seeing as it is aimed at malaria - makes sense and is most likely not about patent squatting. If you don't like microsoft - I don't - at least they put a small part of the money they've squeezed out of us to good use. Microsoft is fairly known for bugs. This time, though, it seems the bugs IS the feature. :)

I am a pack rat. Seriously. Every book I've ever bought (some 600), every game I've ever bought - even back to the old 386 - I've kept around.. almost. A few years ago I did throw a lot. Not as much as I should, but a lot. And yes, I do remember the old balance of power game. I also have the books that inspired the game. :) (The Balance of Power, by The International Institute for Strategic Studies, yearly publication of interest for anyone connected with the military
