Warlords: Battlecry III (it's on impulse somewhere) is the RTS continuation of the series. I played it a LOT back in the days(as well as the original warlords series). :D

Haven't read much about the LE edition.... I know the dark elf edition was a free upgrade for those that allready had basic blood bowl, though, is it the same?

It is also available on Impulse. If you're in a hurry, it's 75% off on steam until tomorrow, though. (Same price otherwise) It's a cool game, but for my part it was more a novelty than a good game.

The civics system seems to have been greatly expanded and based on your culture. This seems to be a good development. The old 'tech trading' system seems to have been negated as well, which is good, I think. But what I have not seen at all is any hint of how the actual research works? Is it much like it used to be or are they doing something weird there? That's kind of key to me, that it's not been 'streamlined' into obscurity. The rest seems to be mostly slicker interface, te

One change that might be a good idea to the tech tree is one type of tech locking off other types, or having some requirement - you need to have horses or wargs to learn riding, you need to have a fire shards to learn the fire book, etc - that would make some sense, I think. That way getting an army of different elementals would be a bit challenging at least. I also do think spellcasting should take two stats; even with a common mana pool, perhaps wisdom/essence could still de

What do you want with your 4x? If you want separate tactical / strategic battles with ship design: Sword of the Stars. If your main concern is the strategic battle and planet management (and a campaign): Galciv II. If your main preference is RTS with a 4x flavor: Sins of a solar empire. I've treid all 3, spent quite a bit of time and all 3, and they are all good games - the question of which is best answered by what you want in your game. Personally I have a

My personal spin on what is happening with the (lack of) stampeding PC development is.... Microsoft. Their insistence that you upgrade your OS to get next generation DirectX, combined with Vista being wholly unpalatable, combined to keep a large segment of gamers 'last generation'. That combined with the recession makes it rather risky and pointless to make games for insane rigs. We're starting to see higher requirements again, though. If my theory is right, that may be d

As a completely out of the blue aside, the fix was restarting the router / modem thing. You may want to save the settings, because it will probably hickup once a year or so, might as well keep the settings around so you don't forget them. My company (Over in europe) has basically increase performance for free every now and then instead of increasing the bills. I can live with that. :) (Looses internet about once every year for a short period, I can live with that too.).

The link is to a lecture on, not so much the nuts and bolts but overall objective of AI. In that regard, the two are similar, and I'd prefer a similar approach in Elemental; that is, each faction and sovereign act in a manner that seems reasonable for that nation and character. The axis drawn up betwenn 'Good' and 'Fun' AI is interesting and, while not exactly news, was still a good description. It is silly to make this a discussion about which is more complex, Civ4 and E:WoM

Kingdoms has a bit easier time of it since they CAN build palace, inn, and other resource generating structures. (Giant mill etc.). Empire gets +1 of each and the rest is through map resources... Titans help you if you don't find a gold mine and hasn't got the equipment / spells to kill anything with impunity. Can get rather boring, like the OP mentioned... 35 turns to get enough gold to build a basic city guard - not to mention trying to get some equipment to fight with (Another 50-1

Sometimes I finish a research and get nothing for it - the options are rare enough none kick in. That feels a bit like being cheated, possibly at least one research should be granted no matter what? I also find that lost libraries (+5 tech research ones, anyway) are pretty vital to get a reasonable tech advance rate. A start without one is a very big handicap. Possibly, the first town should contain a 'Palace of the Sovereign' or some such for a starting gilden and research income...<

Hm. I've been using Impulse to connect to the forums... that explains a few things. You guys MAY want to put a link to the support forums in Impulse. :)

Hm... I've had trouble finding support, and I don't think it's a good idea to post a 151kb debug file here; the forum would not like me very much. Suggestions? Oh well, for the sake of expediency I'll just throw it in here. I am not 100% sure I didn't start it again after getting the OOM though. I hope it proves useful. Just a little addendum on another bug-ish thing that I have not seen recent reports of. One of my c ities sometimes show up with names (and color) of another city - sometimes a city I just conquered, more rarely, a city I've never seen. This is just in map view, if I click on it the proper allegiance and name is displayed. Still, it's weird.

Now, I have not had a trouble with slowdown after the latest patches, so I thought out of memory was no longer a problem, but a game I played today got a CTD after an 'out of memory' error. This was after many turns. (Win XP Media Edition (32 bit) , E66000 cpu, 2gb memory, 9600 gt Nvidia graphic card, Xi Fi soundcard. Not latest drivers but from summer.). Anyone else still getting these?

I often use a mounted archer sovereign, and those animations can take surprisingly long times to finish displaying; i end up right clicking the next target repeatedly while waiting for the attack animation to finish; it seems like it pauses a bit after finishing as well. It may take as much as 10 seconds; it seems like it waits until the mount is in a particular position before firing. (Which is probably because in the earlier version the mount would snap to a particular position when at

What is evil... there are many definitions, few of which everyone agrees on. In that context, I meant 'doing extreme hard for no good reason'. This was aimed mostly at the torture facilities suggestion; torturing people for entertainment is neither good entertainment nor very .. nice. Also, how slavery is often depicted in film. You don't usually round up every man, woman and child in a productive community and put them to work in a salt mine instead (or turn them into the body s

Well. Flavor they've put some work in allready... kingdoms turn the terrain around them green and lush, empires turn it into a twisted wasteland. The story based difference is, the fallen were the followers of the titans.. not just by choice; the titans created them. The titans wanted to take the world's magic for their own. That's not exactly a nice thing, but that doesn't make the fallen, in and of themselves, a bad people. However... death worshipping, brutal half-demons an

ZK Spectrum you say? I got three words for you: Lords of Midnight. Ring a bell? Yes? Now that was an amazing bit of programming. 4000 areas (With 3D terrain view in 8 directions from each one for 32000 (nearly) unique views), several factions, over a hundred recruitable NPC's with armies - including some monsters, like Farflame the Dragonlord and so on.... all in 48k! That is the first truly epic game I played, and a huge inspiration later. (This was before Elite). D
