I bought Elemental a while ago, and got the beta version installed. First started on 3C, now on 4. It might be that my impressions as a new player gives an important feedback on how it actually is to start afresh. Keep in mind, I'm an old gamer, I've been around since the time of legends, and in addition, I believe I've played most of what is worth playing in this genre; from the recent fantasy wars/elven legacy/etc. games to Disciples III and II, MoM, AoW, Civ4 (Ffh) etc. back to the

I see your point, Raven X, although I'd probably word it a little differently. :) Still, I do note that it's kind of evened out - the pre-created sovereigns no longer wear those rather impressive-looking outfits anymore, either. So it might be a case of having to actually get cool armors in order to wear them... On another note: New game, also significant slowdown whenever I try to look at the area my city is in, and again an invisible stone quarry. (This time it turne

Thanks for the feedback, sjwt. I'll try that in the next game. :) Played a new game until it crashed. Reloaded autosave once, but it crashed again within a few turns. Savegame archived for reference, if wanted. Things noted: On trying to load a game, the game start screen is visible through the load game screen. Starting location: Three arcane temples?!? My spellbook got big fast, I can tell you that. I tried attacking a bandit lord and it wouldn't let

The way I understand it from the earlier posts of Brad and others, there is no activation limit as such. Stardock's the guys behind the Gamers' bill of rights, and while not all games on impulse adheres to it, all games BY STARDOCK does. Important distinction that is often forgotten, causing a lot of senseless arguments. ( Link: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?aid=322522 ) It is also interesting to rea

I'll just whisper this and see if anyone jumps in fright... "GoogleToolbarUpdater"... AKA the Shit that just won't flush. Google Chrome works nicely now though.. since it now actually updates when a webpage updates. Before, it didn't show - in particular - new web comic pages. However, that's fixed, and I must admit I like the ability to do 'intelligent' searches in the address bar.

I allways name my first ship "Acheron", the rest becomes a word association game. It could go: Acheron (AKA LV 426) Nostromo (The ship landing on Acheron in Alien) Demeter (Oddly, the ship I thought it should be called - the one carrying Dracula to London) Poseidon (Ships? Need a sea god then...) or Acheron Styx (Another river of the greek underworld) Hades (Greek underworld, doh!) Niflheim (Norse mythology underworld) Valkyrie (Nor

Honestly? The irony of the thread title was a nice touch. There is something really strange about this. You rip a game, and then you say you hope someone in charge makes it run better for you. It's kind of like someone stealing a car, then complaining the tank wasn't full. I don't know, I'd say that qualifies for an award of some sort.[e digicons]:omg:[/e]

Gilder (dutch coin) was just another word for gold/golden. Since dutch is neither a country or language in Elemental, I'd rather not have that. Rigma is a US shipping company, but according to TESS, the name is not trademarked, at least. It reminds me of rigors, or stigma, neither of which I am all that fond of, but it kind of works. Crowns symbolizes the power of the crown behind the value of the coins. But the rulers here are not royalty. They are wizards, and crowns makes

Um, not exactly. HW was made by Relic. But you're right in that HW: Cataclysm was Barking Dog Studios which later turned into Rockstar Vancouver, Some of the employees in Barking Dog split off to two companies that should be familiar - namely, Ironclad and Kerberos. It's a small world... I'm a fairly big fan of SOTS myself, but I have to agree with GJDriessen - there's not that much of an automatic cross-appeal between the two. SOTS is sandbox 4x with ship design, Homeworld was R

The original poster's question is simple: Why the obsession with socialism / capitalism? I think the first requirement to answer this is to note that the phenomenon exists. I will quietly submit the rest of this thread as proof of that. Very strong opinions, based on very varying degrees of facts. A significant portion would have to be ascribed to the cold war. McCarthyism - communist witch hunts, building and owning the ultimate weapons of terror, and the co

One key battle I remember from Homeworld. I had placed extensive minefields in all cardinal directions. With the good old 'jump signature detected' I prepared to watch the fireworks. Unfortunately, the jump signature was ABOVE my mothership. So... I watched some fireworks allright, but not the expected ones. It's one of the best RTS space games, and in my opinion, the best story-wise. I still remember the voice of Fleet: "Hiigara is burning.". Good voice acting. So yea
I really do think most pros will respect a game titled "5v5 noobs only".
In my experience, most games named 'Noobs only' are hosted by someone very conscious of his allready-high 'kill count'. Basically, someone who wants cheap wiins. (This was at least true in Company of Heroes, an otherwise REALLY good game.). YMMV. A trust based system would be best, in many ways - experienced players may want to drop by to offer help, for instance, and segr

Well, since the necromancer allready cast his spell..... I've been playing a lot online lately. However, this is partly because I like the social aspects of playing as well as the fights. You can talk, lay plans, and see them smashed or succeed, To illustrate, Napoleon Total War. Me and a friend started playing, he Prussia, me Russia. I started fighting the Ottoman empire, he joined in, and I asked him to help kill an ottoman army that was creeping towards Kiev. He rer

Liquid chains.. a spray can chemical that cleans snow from the tires and leaves a slightly adhesive film. It's not that effective and doesn't last long, but it helps a bit in a tight spot. One brand is Turtle Wax's Snow Grip, but I think Turtle Wax only sells it around here, not internationally, at least under that label. THe main problem with a german wall of text is that fairly few on this forum can actually read it. :) Anyway, I suggest watching 'Good Bye Lenin'. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301357/

I'm in Norway, and it's been snowing for a week now. Not that heavy snow that piles up, but the cold-weather fine snow that doesn't really amount to anything except trying to get into your eyes. The kind of weather you mention there used to be a lot more common but now, we get it 0-2 times a year, really. I still have an old picture from our family cottage where the snow reaches the roof, and that's one of those large cottages with cellar and such - you need a ladder to reach the roof.

I remember some of the more interesting spells - one in particular.... Armageddon. For those not playing MoM: It turned the landscape into volcanoes, slowly. (a random, small number each turn). This sounds bad. It was bad, for everyone. And it cost one heck of a lot mana to maintain. But, for every volcano, you got extra mana income. Can you say 'Unlimited power!' ? I bet you can. :) And like someone else mentioned - yep, you did feel like Sauron. [e digicons]8(|[/e]

I'm currently playing KBAP as well, and I'll quietly update the original review with a few observations, if I may. :) 1: Very 'chibi' - like dragon. Cute as a button. And quite powerful, yes; the rage system is an interesting mechanic. 3: Yees... well, that's not that new, in KBL you had a wife. Now you are a girl who can have one of several guys as .. 'companion'. Not sure if that's a big difference, except you don't get to make babies as far as I know. 4: T

A coin with two faces, that. Banning vs. age categories Films and games are VERY rarely banned, both in the US and Europe. Germany leads the list in europe, but that is because it is illegal to depict nazi flags in germany; that is the biggest cause of bans there. Generally, the bans that do come into effect are usually lifted after a (usually short) time. The wikipedia list isn't too updated on lifting bans; a quick look was enough to notice several films listed as banne

That is a rather nice design there, Akkan. I like designs with lots of edges, although the ancient ship Aurora (?) design was VERY nicely detailed. :) A small aside for the SW vs. ST guys: There's other threads dedicated to SW vs. ST theorizing. I suggest you move it to there; life's too short for this thread to turn into that. (There's 39 million and counting hits on Star Wars Trek vs on google. Personally, any such comparison would be decided by plot, not throwing around doubtf

There's a thread on 1c's support forums on this: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=11235 Basically, there it sends the sound to the wrong device, if you've set up a sound device for headsets. I do the same though and don't have the problem.. I am guessing that's the best place to look for solutions. In the stardock annual report, Brad Wardell mentions that they've been surprised by how many of its players do NOT play multiplayer. The impression you get from forums is allways that multiplayer is 'the thing' but apparently only 23% of the demigod players has logged on to the multiplayer bit at least once - a very minor fraction of the players. That obviously means that either 77% of the players are really disappointed, or the singleplayer bit is pretty good. :D BUt yeah, th

UFO Afterlight is the only non-brand sequel to X-com that has been worth a damn, in my eyes, but that one is actually pretty good. Still, another X-com is good news. But I do echo Red1939's sentiment...
