I got the impression that the research on better heroes works something like researching relations with darklings and such - an exceptional hero is created in / near your cities. I would further guess that Rilis is one of those. But that's guessing. Really. As for the scattered towns - that's 'mior' factions - single towns and such. Some are led by very exceptional people. These exceptional heroes or rulers would make good candidates for marriage, I believe, although I

Well... it did need the 0-day patch thingy, really, and the other patches helped a lot too. But those guys are confusing guideline #2 a bit. A gamer has the right to have a technically working product. This is a good thing. But that does not mean that it should work from before you get it. It means that IF there is technicaly problems, they must be fixed or you get a refund (or similar settlement.). And Stardock certainly does that. At least that's how I read it. That the game should
Spells has two sides. Let's say summoning. The 'light' (or Life) side version has "Summon Vigilant defender", the Empire (death) side has "Summon Spy". Same creature, different title. The elemental spells are kind of 'neutral', so this is only with the enchantment and summoning books. Since you no longer start with the summoning books, there will be a few spells you don't see, but you will get them later.
[Vader]"Impressive. Most impressive."[/Vader] Basically, almost everything I've thought was a bit out of whack has been changed, and the rest is also good changes. Too bad I've just started a game that is rather interesting. :S (I guess saves are not so useable with enchantment-using sovereigns....)
Yes. Yes we do. :D Silent storm is a slightly more lighthearted version of JA2, set in a WW2 setting with branching mission trees, lots of cool guns, cool characters, etc. And you can play either allies or axis. The plot takes a weird twist halfway through the game and I don't really like that, but I won't spoil it for people. It's even more possible to do things like blow up walls and go through them, etc. Many of the same principles, but you have character classes, leve
Agree with the OP on both angles - I think Steam and Impulse are VERY important for several reasons: 1: Platforms that are as easy - or easiter - to use as the premier game distribution platform, The Pirate Bay. 2: Game distribution the way it should be - updated in the background, always up-to-date, no hassles, no DVD that must be in the drive, and unnoticeable CD-keys. 3: Portable game library. Install steam/impulse, download, done. Anywhere, any time. New PC, old, holida
Many highly relevant fixes here for me. Good stuff. :) (Hopefully)
The thing is, this will be the release version which, at least from what we've seen, has a few flaws. It is not a big problem - we'll get patches, after all - but for my part it's currently the game I play that crash the most, for instance. That gives bad word-of-mouth publiciity. Not as much as certain games that had a copy protection that made the game subtly unplayable for pirates - word of mouth basically killed them - but that's the flip side of that strategy. &nbs
Not really, but it has some features from it, as far as I can tell. It's sort of in-between that and retail, if I understood Frogboy correctly.
Lastly, they get more HP by gaining levels by fighting.
This is just guessing, mind you, but I suspect that the idea is that if you want GOOD ranged damage, especially with your sovereign, use magic. Still, I do find a combat - Sovereign with a longbow QUITE effective, especially early on. :D
Well, it's a known phenomenon. Guys go from fanboys to a rabid pack of trolls on release date. I think it has something to do with the mentality that in a Beta, you feel more of a fellowship with the developers - you are working together to make a better game, which should give a fairly high tolerance to small problems - but on release, you switch toles to being paying customers that feel things should no longer be unstable or buggy at all; your role becomes more in opposition to th
An update: Using a full not-fullscreen screen (sounds messy) helps with the alt- tab thing, and it makes it possible to monitor memory usage a bit more. It does not, however, fix the memory leak. Memory use goes up consistently and for my part, when it reaches 960 mb, things start gooooiinnggg.. sloooowwww...... I did get the impression it increased slower though. In the campaign it only got unbearable when I got to the point where I'm supposed to move north of Gilden, af
About the ATI/Win 7 64 known bug. The problem there is, I have windows XP media edition, and an Nvidia 9600 GT graphic card. Edit: I also have the memory leak, but since I can't alt-tab much, I can't find out what increases memory usage easily either. (I'll try the maximize window thing next.). @Stardock: PM me and I'll happily help with doing whatever is needed to help identify the problem. @Rune_74: Yes, I agree completely. The game flows much better, although I did have to
For those mentioning that Porcipine is OP as a ruler, she is clearly noted as the most powerful channeler of the realms, at least in the first campaign mission. The start has a few oddities though; Porcipine's spouse was named åS}, and the nearby town was named Eroor. Which sounded a bit odd. The tactical map works better, but it scrolls towards the cursor, and you can't move the map with ASDW like you can the main map, which feels a little counter-intuitive. Crashing on
Found two typos; one in the campaign start screen and one when moving west of the farmland patch just off the ship after recruiting janusk and the farmer. It says "Setting off the new paridian", it should probably be "setting off to...". It also didn't seem to properly advance the storyline once I'd founded the first city. Also, unfortunately, it is not as alt-tab friendly as it was suggested it was; I got a 'DX - bad call' and a CTD when I went out to write this list of bugs. That might be b
Quick note: The beta key's registered email address disappeared from my key when I checked it a few weeks ago. When it was released today it kept saying invalid key, also with the new release key. I had to edit it and add my email to it for it to work. (Just in case some of you guys get the same problem)
>Our third distributor is: >IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMPUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSEEEEE *KA-CHINK*!
Wondering if Frogboy meant MONDAY by tomorrow (the post time was just before midnight..... especially considering Kryo's last post. *gnurf*
Hexes and squares isn't really a big coding problem. Once you figure out how to organize them, the rest is easy enough. However, hexes are really bad for a few things, first and foremost, multi-hex structures look really bad as buildings usually are square(ish) and not honeycomb-lookalikes. Secondly, while hexes are a better way to handle diagonal movement, it is not so good for longitude movement. Also, my impression is that most gamers that aren't boardgame gr
Well, scanning the forums, apparently. :) I am rather curious about the new Impulse distributed game, Star Ruler. Looks interesting; not sure how it matches up to the current king of that hill (in my opinion), Sword of the Stars. Release the 23'rd though; REALLY not helpful. Neither is Mafia II, which looks verrry nice, but it's released the 27th. (Hopefully we'll see it on Impulse, not sure how the status is there. Odds are, my time will be spent on Star Trek Online (
What element I prefer? I like fire. :D (options 1,2 and 3 are all very important to me. Too hard to choose just one :D).
>1. In multiplayer how does it handle tactical battles? I don't know, really. In SP you can set the treshold of units to be included for playing tactically to be an option. (v. 3 beta) >2. Can you craft magic items? This was one thing I loved about AOW:SM. Craft with your own selection of bonuses? No. Research and buy them for your units? Yes. >3. Although there are human types of units you can create from your population can you also create more exoti
You may want to take a look at 'sword of the stars'. While it is definitely space opera instead of 'hard' sci-fi, it is not too far off. It also has a strong focus on tactical space battles, unlike GC2. And yes, you have drones and everything. :D (Missiles, point defences, jamming devices, spinal mounted weapons, and the occassional asteroid-throwing siege cannon.). (Basically, it has a much simplified planet / colonization aspect, but much more in the tactical combat area, including the fact
Well, I've played some more, and now I wish to address the tactical combat, and in particular, its lethality. When starting a few fights I notice, at first, the sovereign is pretty deadly, especially a sorcerous one. However, the most effective type of magic for this, by far, must be summoning. A fire or earth giant will clobber everything you are likely to meet early on. I have noticed that you are also likely to run into pretty tough enemies, so I guess they are sort of necessa
