" Well, technically the interface on a Linux system is your wonderful little textual console - but really, next to nobody uses that anymore, thanks to the joys of X Windows. There's no standard interface to *nix though, which is both one of its strengths /and/ a huge failing of it. There are a multitude of different window managers out there for users to take advantage of.

I imagine the newest uses a bit more resources though - with the additional eye-candy, but I've never found it a resource hog. Uhm. Have you just tried using PrtSc (Print Screen) in Windows? Hit that - and it copies your desktop to the clipboard which you can then paste into Photoshop or PSP or even MS Paint or something. Ever since at least 98. (Don't remember if you could in 95 or not.)

/me is doing a good job of staying away from things like message boards, the roommate, and the outdoors today. Basically, anything which involves interaction with other people. I -did- get weak though - and bought a pack. I've had /one/ though - and I've had my roommate hide them and keep 'em from me. ^_^
Unfortunately, this is fairly commonplace too - and IIRC it stems from developers insisting on using /their/ own methods of creating menus/etc. than the Windows 'standard'. Office XP uses the new .NET style toolbars and menus. Windowblinds (and even visual styles,) won't touch them. Two quick, simple notes: 1. x86 architecture is, honestly, anything but out of date. AMD with x86-64 is more than proving that. "It's a 64-bit chip with backwards-compatability with 32-bit code" Which honestly, to 90%+ of the computer users out there is not going to make the least lick of difference, really. 64 bit computing is /not/ some great speed increase over 32 bit computing for every day use. The big draw of it is the increased amount of accessable memory - which is one of the reasons you're seeing Intel's IA-64 marketed only in the server arena.
I wondered about that, IPlural - but I'm wondering what the limited resolution is, and how annoying the watermark is. ^_^
