Well I am not sure how Space Rangers type turns could work in MP. In Civ IV, sometimes your turns really feel instant because everyone is going quick and there is not much of a wait time between when you end your turn and when everyone else does. Other times though, when someone is at War for example and the other human players are not at war, the one person's turn will take a very long time. I don't know how you could avoid that for battles in Elemental, not sure you necessarily have
"Continuous turn-based" is an oxymoron. The definition of turn-based is that each entity or player may act only when it is his turn, all others must wait. If multiple players can act simultaneously in real-time, it is not turn-based.
Well Civ IV is clearly simultaneously turn-based. Yes, you are all acting at the same time, but there is a turn and you have to wait until everyone is done for the next turn. I don't think t
Beside what attitude players have toward MP, I would really appreciate it if you could filter based on which language a particular player knows (and how well). I haven't played a lot of MP with strangers, but I remember some bad experience due to total lack of communication where the other players just don't know any English (or just knows it really poorly). Creating a formal system to deal with different language players is of particular

I really could care less if I play with little kids so long as they don't use voice chat... or grief
Haha. I hadn't thought of that. I guess I haven't used voicechat with anyone I didn't know so I'll have to take your word on that.

I find a lot of people annoying regardless of their age. In fact, waltz on over to some place like Dungeon and Dragons online and you've got a bunch of middle aged know it alls who think anyone who disagrees with them is 13... not quite. Still I know what you are saying. Fortunately, i have a small group I play with frequently but if I ever encounter a game I like and they don't, I usually just pass it up rather than try and play with strangers who play the game all day long for
Testing a feature like this live on something like Demigod or Sins is beyond stupid.
Elemental shouldn't be a petri dish for RTS features. This sort of thing would be useless for a 4x turn based game and if they want to test it, test it on a game in beta that would actually use it.
Okay, if we can host our own games and set our own bandwidth rules, thats not so bad.
It's completely unnecessary for a game like Elemental. It's a turn based game. Turn based games are the only games I've played frequently where someone can loose their connection and return to the game without so much as a beat missed and no one was the wiser except your turn was a little long. It sounds to me like St

However, before I walk away, I'm doing Stardock the courtesy of telling them why I'm walking away. It's possible that I'm the only person walking away over this. The impact to Stardock's business may very well be negligible. It may be nothing compared to the number of sales they make through Im

What Lantec was saying (I believe) is that saying Impulse is forced on you is, at the least, inaccurate. The closest example of a piece of software being forced on someone that I can come up with would be something like WinAntivirusPro2009. It installs itself without your permission, and cannot be removed through
Basically, Stardock's position is that on the games we host there will be users whose Internet connections fall below a certain threshold of quality. Rather than letting those users, as has happened in Demigod, wreck the experience for all players, they won't be able to play on our servers. The threshold will be determined by the beta testers and Stardock during the beta. However, when users choose to host games themselves, the

Lantec's argument is ridiculous. When was the last time any of us was "forced" to buy or use anything? I mean really, most of us have a choice in our clothing, our furniture, our stores, our games, our OS, our everything. Does this mean that no one should criticize anything since we always have a choice to get something else? That's nonsene. There are a lot, a lot of people who can't stand IE in any version. To these people IE7 is not an upgrade as they are not even using it.

I am sure eventually companies and consumers will look back on this regional locking and region code and other such nosense and just shake their head. Until then, it seems like there another company should emerge to push the issue. I am amazed at the price difference across the sea especially when you can get similar things for a lot less in place like China and Russia where combating piracy with low prices is an approach.
