I mean the list that shows what events have happened this turn (i.e. Cari4 has produced a BattleAxe). Also two more observations/bugs: When a race offers you peace when you are at war, it brings up a stripped down version of the diplomacy/barter screen where there's only peace treaty. Your choices are accept or reject. If you accept you still have the same choice, and you can either keep on accepting or (nonsensically) reject to escape that screen. Not good. Also on th

In a pathetic attempt to boost my own bug reporting abilities to those of "The Reaper", who I do indeed fear, :) I would like to add: The trade route information on the domestic policy screen is somewhat confusing. First of all if established isn't recorded, it shouldn't be in the statistics. I'm not sure what the turns and value amounts mean. And lastly I think making the text that appears in the lower right hand corner smaller would greatly improve the appea
I've noticed the music is often choppy on my P3-850/384MB/GeForce2MX/Aureal(I know :))/WinXP machine. Sometimes I hear "thk thk thk" when the music stalls and the volume goes up and down with dialogs come up. I'm assuming some of this is due to music which is in the final game, but not in the beta would play.
I experienced the game crashing on startup again. I stopped playing for a couple of hours and when I started the game again it crashed at the same place right after the door opening introduction. Again it started fine right after I killed it. My system: XP (no SP1), P3/850, 384 MB RAM, GeForce2MX Also there seem to be duplicate entries appearing in the tech list. If I change the list order a couple of times I see duplicate entries and I also saw duplicate entries on the swap sc
Doh! I found that too thanks midlar. Let's see I did also find a string not found message when I try and trade with the lowly Alexians, but I'm going to delay any other comments until I can finish off the "saintly" Alterian warmongers.
OK, just a couple of bugs, since that's what I've noticed so far, and I wanted to get these in front of Frog and co ASAP. I'll have more consructive comments later on. :) Two problems so far: The first time I ran it, the game froze on me. The door animation opened, but the text in the buttons never appeared and the main animation never started. I killed it restarted and it worked fine. And the survey ship doesn't give me any messages when I go over an anomoly. Is this
I just wanted to add my voice to those who use Mozilla regularly without problem. Of course I'm not a web developer,so I may be missing subtleties. The only problem I've encountered with WinCustomize is the "return to the page you were on before link" after I log in.
I don't know, it just brings back too many bad memories of Black and White to try it.
After years of being called a poster child for everything that's wrong with open source, the Mozilla project has generated some success since the release of 1.0, arguably opening up the world of web browsing again. One of the strangest offshoots I've come across is Ghostzilla which enables you to conjure up a browser (using a special mouse movement) in your current application, regardless of what it is. It's a little hard to explain, but there are animated screenshots on the web site whi
Given the audience, enthusiasts looking for good looking GUIs, it's actually not that surprising. They both have their respective strong suits: Mac has generally had the nicest graphics by default of any OS, so you can get a good looking OS without much effort, while Linux has been skinnable from the ground up from day one, so it's even more skinable than Windows. I would give Linux the edge thought because I think some of Mac voters would chicken out when it came time for pony
One snippet that's stirred the interest of some of the newsgathering sites (I saw it over at OSnews first) is a column by Bill Nichols over at Byte taking stock of some of the less talked about operating systems. Arguably Object Desktop could be listed "Deskop Alternatives" but an interesting read nonetheless. Now where did I put my DESQview/X floppies...
Thanks for the update scratch! I like the project, but I can't seem to find if there's any list of features in the upcoming versions. My final wish for Mozilla would be a permenant tab like Opera.
Yes, by less monolithic I meant I only want the browser, I didn't see that option when I installed 1.0. My mistake. I retract my original comment (or the "monolithic" half at least) and I'm going to reinstall with just the browser. IMHO the default distribution should just be that since you can install other components (like the calendar) separately, but I'm sure they have the
Popup window supression, skinable, tabs, what more could you ask for? Well, applying skins without restarting and a less monolithic nature (no email/news integration), but I digress. Check out the latest incarnation of what some are calling the best browser out there. The Mozilla team has chosen the interesting aproach of a branching development tree where incremental updates on the original code are developed alongside new versions so version 1.01 will be out soon for people who aren't
In his column last week, Robert X Cringely talked about Microsoft's Palladium initiative which was outlined in Newsweek a week earlier. Do we really need a whole new security architecture to extending down to the hardware level to combat viruses like NIMDA? Or is Microsoft manipulating public fear to further extend their hold on the PC and Internet? Take a gander at what Bob has to say.
There are still a lot of tweaks to be made in the interface, and the advisors aren't really active yet, so don't worry about in game help. And as for encyclopedia... there is the first button in the row just above this message. :D
Gregory Nashif, you can post suggestions and feedback to the stardock.logonstudio newsgroup. There have been a couple of hiccups in our quest to make it easier to make Logons. Adding in the visual editor turned out to be more work than we originally thought and some of the compromises necessary to accomodate it have been problematic. The main logon engine is still capable of generating great logons, but we're trying to balance ease of creation against the hacking that's sometimes necess
Some new screenshots will be up soon on one of the gaming web sites. Keep any eye on the main page, we'll keep you posted.
I'm getting periodic crashes with anomilies. It doesn't seem to be the same anomoly, and just periodically. If I restore the game I usually can get through the point where it crashed before, so I don't know what to submit.
The later technologies haven't been tweaked and are currently much easier to research than they will be in the final game. Also it is a branching research tree, so there are multiple "tops" The Final Frontier is only one, although it does end the game. I'll have to check but some of the others end the game too.
Modifications in other areas are planned though, including the ability to add in events and anomalies.
There were a number of NPC groups outside of the main alien races, including pirates and rebels. There were also alien races that would beam in from other galaxies and mix things up. That's all I'm going to say. LOL
I don't think any help would be in the form of tutorials, because the replayablity of the game means you'll be restarting more than once. Advisors should help you understand the game better and make sure you appreciate the full scope of the game.
Well for technology tree solutions there's are sensor bouys not too far down the line that you basically use for solution #2, and I think there is a late game tech that allows you to see everything, but I could be mistaken.
Galciv is going to have advisors to help people learn the ropes initally, and offer 'tips and tricks' through out the game. The game also unfolds slowly in the begining as you research new technology, so people don't get overwhelmed the first time they play.
