@Indefatigable91 There's tons of advice and tips and replays available on this forum to help you. In game many players don't have time or patience to give much more than basic direction. If you enter a skilled game you should at least have a basic understanding of more advanced play. Depending on where you are at, it might be better to get more games under your belt first in beginner only games or something like that. I know quite a lot of players that spend time explaining mi
Quoting Protoplazm, reply 55a bare minimum assent of essential edicts must be made resolute. While you may contend that the fault lies not in our stars, but in ourselves, I would disagree. You have to build the rules into the game or the launcher, because you can't expect new players to know about them, much less read your convoluted post. Sins is by design a game that you CAN play online, but isn't very accessibl
I think the most likely explanation other than the e-peen or perfect smurf is the pugging process.
Yeah, the pugging process reason makes sense if you're just interested in stacking your team a bit for an easier win. The e-peen motivation is laughable though considering Sins MP. I can understand e-peen in a game with an actual competitive scene and elo ladder, tournaments, etc. but Sins MP just isn't that kind of srs biz

It amazes me that in such a small small MP community/player base there are a lot that smurf (I would guess about 10%). I can sort of understand the ones who just change their name to be anonymous but don't touch their record and still play a game through properly. Anything other than that is moronic imo - why would anyone really care about their stats or record in this game? Winning is only partly related to skill for starters. Throw in team games, feed, random elements, mini-dumps,&
B. What do you do if you scuttle your Cap ship factory and your cap ship was destroyed early in a mp game?
It completely depends on what your enemy lost in the process and where the game is at. Generally though, if you need to rebuild cap ship and cap factory, it isn't worth it unless you lost your colonizer cap in the eco spot due to talking on the phone while militia heavies abuse you. Early game with the enemy cap near you level 1 or 2 still, it might be worth re

Just wanted to point out too that the OP was talking about Sins ICO playerbase being dead or seeing a steady drop in numbers since release - not the game as a whole. There was really absolutely no reason for it to become SP vs. MP discussion. Nonetheless, I totally agree with Sel's overview of the forum and community.

100 Replies 256,179 Views

If 90% of Sins players play SP only, which is an invented statistic but I'll agree it's still the majority, how many still play the game? There's really no way to know is there. Most of that invented 90% also contribute absolutely nothing to game community. They simply play it and probably never visit or post on the forum. The "MP crowd" are the main drivers and contributors to the game's life past release with balance and strategy feedback, replays, helping beginners with que
the average length of one multiplayer session would have to be between 10 and 20 minutes
How did you come up with this number? I don't know of any RTS games that last 10-20 minutes unless it's a noobstomp game. Many average in the 30-60 realm. Sins is a little longer but nothing unreasonable if you enjoy the game. Sel's point about waiting time is a big deterrent though I agree, especially combined with troll antics.</p

Unazaki, online matches taking too long is a myth. Most 5v5 games with all settings on Fastest last between 60-90 minutes. Normal setting multi star games are not usually played online because they would take too long.

Nice post Slackah - I'll try and contribute some points later. For now, Team Selection Don'ts: Once a PUG team selection is underway you've tacitly joined the game, entered the lottery, accepted the captains. Don't bail once teams are divided and people start greening up unless your house is on fire. Team Selection Dont's: Don't join the game lobby and then AFK for ages unless someone can message you on Steam and wake you up. Getting the

Re: Online numbers and balance To put things further in perspective, Relic's Company of Heros RTS came out in 2006. It had an expansion in 2007. They're on patch 2.6 currently. It's a 6 year old game that still averages 6000 players online at a time. It's gone through tons of ups and downs with balance, especially with the release of its expansion. It still held on to good numbers because most of the other MP factors I mentioned were in place to keep it movin

Been using Steam since the Orange Box came out in 2007. Never had a single problem or issue. Nothing but postive things to say about it. Don't have several dozen boxed games taking up space. All patches and updates done automatically means one less obstacle to playing and maintaining the game. Great sales at various times of the year. Easy way to meet and communicate with friends for MP. I didn't play in Diplo so maybe I just have more patience for the balance issues where older players don't. Maybe balance is the main reason for the old timers to leave, I don't know, but I don't think it is the main reason for the majority. It is not perfect but I don't think it is bad enough alone to account for the huge drop. A lot of new players came in with Rebellion so there must be more to the drop of numbers than just balance. My point was more that, if the game ha

100 Replies 256,179 Views

The balance is really not that bad right now. There have been far worse balance issues in other RTS games I've played and they still managed to maintain a large MP playerbase for years. I think MP numbers are dropping off for a number of reasons: 1. A lot of dedicated MP players have been playing for years. People get tired of the game and move on. Not much changed with ICO/MP to reinvigorate/encourage it. 2. MP is really not friendly to new players. There is no ranking/au

Thank you! It didn't feel right at the time but I was too lazy to look up the correct word (although I guess I could argue I meant trade and culture show up at different times for the factions).

So, if there is any chance of this thread gaining some dignity as a balance topic, I'd suggest focusing first on whether Vasari SBs are OP and need changes. If they are, then what the changes could be would be step 2. I do not think anything productive will happen, but I could be surprised. There is a lot of asyncronous balance stuff in this game. Advent get culture at 2 labs and trade at 3. TEC are vice-versa. That's an easy asyncronous balance where you can't really cry

Sareth, there is very little worth responding to in your replies. I'd noticed how hostile you were to anyone disagreeing with your idea in the thread so far and you didn't disappoint when I disagreed as well. Your replies to many of the valid points people bring up are basically "No, you!" (eg. look at your reply to Sel's points about Vasari frigates and Vasari weaknesses that help explain why they have a stronger/different SB). I find it amusing that you think your

Hi - so I watched the replay. Basically, I'd read some of the stuff in this thread about starting Tec capital ships (dont' use a Kol - I'd recommmend Akkan until you get better) and how to colonize moons and asteroids with just a colony frigate: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/433648 Your early game colonization could be faster that way.
