I'd prefer a randomized setting personally, kinda like the way the Halo multiplayer system works. Choose the number of people you want to play with, the game sets you up with people who want a similar game, and picks a random map and teams. Still allow people to team up and look for games together or set up private matches, but I think MP would thrive if done this way, since you never know who is there until you're in

@Twilight_Storm 1) MP is not scripted. The AI is scripted. This is why it is boring to play against. If you haven't played online, please don't try to describe it or dismiss it like you understand it. 2) Chess was not an analogy for balance issues, it was an analogy about people exploiting certain tactics somehow being "bad" or "breaking the game" or "not playing the game how it was intended" or various comments like that. If you were just referring to
Twilight_Storm - have you ever actually played on ICO with people before? Your comments show that you really have very little experience with RTS games and balance. By your logic, in chess, if I employ any advanced strategies, I am "breaking" the game. Who are you to tell me how the game is "meant" to be played? Games have a life of their own and people develop their own strategies. This does not mean people are "breaking" the game so please stop using that ridiculous description. And st
And MP WILL always have complainst based on game mechanics they are exploiting. The Devs should not have to change their concept because a few.......players......are exploiting certain aspects to the point where the PLAYERS break the game.
It isn't about "breaking" the game. It's about learning the game more deeply and really seeing what is actually effective and what is not. I'll repeat. Players are not breaking
I guess it really depends what they want. From past comments, it seems Stardock generally feels the SP audience to be the main purchasers and their main audience and that they try to incorporate some MP balance issues as well. I'll grant that the SP audience is probably a lot easier to please and quite simple as far as community interaction. As long as there are no game breaking bugs, it's mostly about fun and space explosions and pew pew. MP audience is much more demanding and put th
You guys are funny...when Riddle King and Seleuceia are in agreement, something is wrong. For a Domina to get healing, you need tier 6 military if I remember right. Hoshikos come out at what, tier 3? The only person I've ever seen use Dominas in Rebellion MP was....me - once, and they are lacklustre. Why would I ever get them instead of Guardians who can provide extra shielding and amazing Repulse earlier? It's much more effective to use Guardians and Repair s
He was playing AR all day yesterday with the intent of abusing Wail non-stop "until it's fixed". There's quite a funny game with about 4 AR players and many many Wails. DeadRat was pretty upset being on the receiving end multiple times.
You include Dominas in your fleet when you are already winning and have so much cash to spare you're not sure what to spend it on. Even with their fixes from a few patches back, they are just too damn expensive and far down the tech tree to come out when needed.
j/k, I don't mind. That was a good watch actually. The teams looked a bit stacked in your favour but Aquia made it close by basically carrying their whole team.
Here's a couple links for you guys to check out with guides to setting up livestreams from other game communities that have done it. I've never done it myself but I know a bunch from these communities that have done it without too much trouble following this. Includes some tips and troubleshooting as far as windowed mode, etc. http://www.gamerepla
Speaking of foreign culture, Zombie y u hijack my replay thread with your brain dead replays?
I think that one hour you recorded of usual lobby hijinks and trash talking is enough to scare any and all new potential online players away lol. If you really want to increase the game's popularity I'd put stuff like that in the Special Needs Vault.
Everybody just calm down. [e digicons]:|[/e] Jim, there's no need to rant about ranting. There's no need to be sorry about what you posted either. Just explain clearly what you mean. I'm not really sure what bitching or complaining you are referring to exactly but, as already said, there is a big difference between trolling, complaining, and balance discussions. Sometimes it can be hard to distinguish - I'll grant you that. But trolls generally don
So, This Thread was edited?
The OP was edited. It basically had a good intent as far as expressing a love of the game, but I think there's a basic misunderstanding that it needs to be "defended" or that people who would like to see balance improved somehow dislike the game. Seleuceia already explained well that there have been many serious, thoughtful balance discussions for Rebellion. The game isn't in a bad p
Hey - really cool to see you streaming these now! Next step would be to get some commentary on what you're doing and why and what's generally going on in the game - this works well as a post-game replay analysis rather than live so people can get some insights into the MP game.
Who are you on ICO Siddy? I would say Cpt. Obivous but that might be hohoho...too obvious. Cpt. Hindsight? None of the above?
I posted a replay a couple months back where one of the players on our team accidentally scuttled his HW at the start of the match - I think that's hard to top in terms of embarrasing mistakes lol! For me it would be times when I've noobed and lost a Titan quite quickly due to underestimating opposing fleet strength.
I can't speak for Ironclad, but Stardock has a history of awful game balance...it isn't what they care about, it just isn't...they want to make cool games that are fun, moddable, and cool...balance is an afterthought... Now, that in and of itself isn't bad...SD makes great games that for SP or casual MP are pretty damn fun....they have the right combination of good graphics and low performance compatibility so everyone c
Hi Mr Book - that's cool, I have never played you before so I was only guessing it was rage quit due to the timing of your first SB being destroyed. I know how often MDs can happen for some people though so I shouldn't have assumed it was a RQ. In any case, I stand by my analysis that you had lost the fight - the first SB was almost destroyed when you dropped - there weren't enough sentinels there to stop the bombers. I had enough bombers massed to then take out the next well'
So this is a semi-ok game at best but there are some lol-worthy moments to make it worth sharing. The All-In typical Vasari SB rush that falls flat and results in rage quit (it's a cheesy tactic because it pretty much decides that 1v1 matchup right there - if it works, you win, if it flops, gg, for the most part). The KBroke comments like "at this point in the game, I know you can't feed, so just send good thoughts". The Pink player's strategy of split
I know exactly the situation Sel is describing and it is tough to get traction against but it's also completely map dependent. How do you balance an ability that is really potent in some situations and a null factor in others? If you do have a map where you've run up against Wail like that, you might not be able to hold onto that particular frontline planet so the options are to fall back and fortify, go for superweapons, take a different route, or wait for Vasari Kostura jump. It bec
Goa surely you must see that there are tremendous balance problems with making corvettes a Titan counter? Why ever make a Titan with all the investment it requires when your opponent can simply quickly pump out the requisite number of corvettes with one military lab in order to counter it? Corvettes and Titans are fine as is. Corvettes are not meh or OP, they are in a really good place balance-wise. You've said low level Titans are not the problem, but high level ones are. Part of the gam
Although demolition party is really stupid. I never put a single skill point in that. The corsev use boarding party but then use demolition party which ends up destroying you new stolen ship -.-
FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE WHILE ALSO HEALING ITSELF (as Goa quantified). Seriously, you haven't realized this ship's potential yet. It can tank frigates like no other Cap can.
Personally I only build corvettes against LRF spam and for early game expansion, and have not seen anyone build corvettes late game. They are at best mediocre against everything else but titans.
I see corvettes still late game. Great for countering bombers and still useful for sniping capital ships. Of course you have to keep pace with your weapon, shield, hull upgrades to help them. [quote who="GoaFan77" reply="69" id="322
