The 'Negative Balance' -strategy is the most efficient way to create an early high military score and/or an uberhigh lategame military score. It is published here for the first time, after being part of a collection of private strategies in the, now defunct, KzintiEmpire forums. It can serve as a basic militaryshipbuilder/ planetaryoutbuilder in Giga-All-Abundant-Millionpointer games (where it has FAR less rampup-time than any other comparative

Well, in the old versions of the game you could always put a spy on any moral-improvements prior invasion and therefore, also conquer a 8b planet successfully with its own population. But I agree, if you do this on already-bad-moraled planets it becomes so effective that you'll end with more soldiers AFTER the invasion than what you had before (the only thing you sacrifice is one troopship - though that could be a tiny one....^^) The CU completely solved this by not allowing to pu

well, you could mod them, some great stuff is possible here (also graphically), for example in my personal one I made 4 homeplanets colonizeable in order to form a certain stronghold. some of the traditional homesystems seem rather weak when there are PQ36 planets which could be in a 5-habitable planet system... that way even when playing rare setup you basically get a more balanced start ... but ofc for MV it won't be accepted... no clue about the tournaments, that was a lo

It's possible to start out with 3 colonizeable planets at your homesystem (instead of the conventional 2) - even for MV games. For this, you'll have to specify the name of your starting homeworld as the name of a (usually) empty PQ0 world which is listed at your own system. This planet then gets an upgrade to be a PQ10 world. Here's a list containing all important taglines: [extracted from the responsible "CustomPlanets.xml"-files] &lt

yes maybe a full collection as a .pdf but only once I'm finished. otherwise I have to do all changes two-fold. and I'm still having a dozen different strategies at my files which I want to release, for example - Spore ZYW step by step - NB strat - MCC farming - more details on MV score (I'll break that section away from the SD-ZYW and enhance it) - prolonged SD-ZYWs into y1 which nets up to 300k per game - prolonged Spore ZYW against

I think the original implication is simply to get your Military Rating high. Let's say you are playing a pacifist race, trying to go for diplomatic victory, or cultural victory, thus you don't really need to have a military at all (it costs alot of maint anyway...) then the SCC gives you a single opportunity to put some strong ships under it which may prevent that the AIs bully you or dislike you. I don't think that the Devs intentionally designed the game so you could swi

The problem lies within Firefox - which seems to be unable to recognize/display .jpg that has been saved with "chroma subsampling YCbCr 4x4 2x2 2x2" (which I used to reduce filesize...) I've made a report/complaint at their forums and wait for a response. Actually any other applications I have (except VLC Player) can display these picture properly; even completely outdated or discontinued things like WinAmp or rubbish like Paint.... Doesn't matter though, any other sub

Yes, the scoreing formulae is the same, because it's active right in your installation. The MV simply checks (whenever you login) the correctness of your files. That's why you can't play a mod here... which, will obviously affect some of the increments to score and this may distort a proper comparison of MV score vs. sandbox score a bit (or a lot, depending onthe mod). Please note that the score shown ingame under "High Scores" does also show any MV games, although

I hope you're not trying to troll me here^^ after your post in the other thread I've taken these into a dozen different applications - but they all show, without any errors. [quote who="DMF" reply="37" id="3625896"] I've been fooling around with permutations of this strategy in TotA, and as noted IT DOESN'T WORK for several reasons. First, no AI will make a treaty withing the first 2.2 years. Not necessarily a killer but it denies an important source of money. Second, the Save/Restart action will not reset the AI's refusal to talk after a deal. So you can bankrupt and declare war, but then you can&#39

Yes... and no^^ Ascension is TotA-only. There are actually many more negatively/positively diplomatic influencing factors present ingame (some are even hidden from view :o) so I just picked those that frequently will turn up in MV game --> where there's a fair chance a player did declare war upon the AI at some time. And a one-time war-declaration will always trigger this "- your historic animosity" penalty although it's normally ranked at the bottom ie. not so seve

The 'Great Galactic Swindle'[*] is an essential key-mechanism for many MV strategies, because it will easily & swiftly give you everything that the AIs possess. Which - if you take away all their planets - can be used to win the map on that turn.. but that's not the only practical use this technique holds for scoreing games. Here are the 4 key increments to successfully Swindle: Research "Total Majesty" & build the 'Spin-Control-Center' (SCC) on a p

yes I know about Fraps but I prefer to write manuals illustrated with pics. I'm gonna try and write 1 or 2 every day, and ultimately link them together so that it's more like a book on score to browse through. the advantage of this is that I can adapt/change/correct my written words whenever I find better means to accomplish what I try to illustrate. because, as I write these texts, I usually have some games going on and occasionaly I find something out that is worth to be written dow

Because there is no real competition at the Metaverse anymore I'm going to make some of my personal scoreing strategies available to anyone who's interested to find out to what extreme levels a MV player can take the unmodded game. This one, which I coined the name 'Military Starbase Field' (because the starbases are so clumped together they rather resemble a field...) is most likely the strongest way to increase your mili

heyho^^ actually I've been here any day but I'm somewhat heavily occupied by trying to beat 1 million points in Dread Lords game, which is the most difficult version for scoreing purposes. and as I've playing, I became aware of several "details" or "game-mechanics" I must've overlooked previously, and which can be used (in combination with other strategies) to play really heavy-score games. so I thinking of making some other strategies available, even if only for past

ok, so I was browsing through MV-related files on an old drive and found this somewhat outdated guide for a SD-ZYW (back then called SaintlySwindle as it used good-ethics...): SAINTLY SWINDLE ZYW - Basic Guidelines: This is for a setup with, at least, 2 PreCursorLibrary-tiles.
