I hear you. I hope Win 7 is here for a long time, I'm not big on changing (buying) new OS's often either. It really is good, though...
I was a big XP fanboy and hated the idea of Vista/Win7, but after building a new PC, I bought Win 7Not quite the same thing that I said. I said "I'm still with XP and currently feel no need to upgrade. There's nothing about Vista that I've heard that makes me think I'm missing anything. Win 7 seems like it may not be all that bad". What I'm a fanboy of is being in control of my own PC. I'm using XP both at home and work and at
easier said than done with vistaI'm still with XP and currently feel no need to upgrade. There's nothing about Vista that I've heard that makes me think I'm missing anything. Win 7 seems like it may not be all that bad but who knows perhaps I'll make it to Win 8 before being forced to change. I can understand not wanting to go back and forth however it seems a little strange not to be able to manage my own start menu, but then
...The more major thing is that the AI does know where the good stuff (resources and planets) are. Again this may seem like a big deal but in practice it's really not all that big. As long as you start as a race with stellar cartography you can tell where the stars are and how many planets they have from the mini-map. You don't know the PQ of the planets or whether they are immediately colonizable (DA or TA) but if you blindly send a colon
so...little update. I tried again to install the mod and it worked! The only thing different about my system is I had uninstalled AVG completely (it was screwing up my steam games).
all i know is, they never surrender to me.
and it's better for it. see here: https://forums.galciv2.com/98074
Definitely an amateur article. Yuck. They don't seem to know what they're talking about. And what do they mean 'stale genre'? With Elemental and Civ V coming out, it's hardly stale.
this happened to me too. It happened after a processor upgrade for some reason, it was a pretty old PC. The only way I could ever fix it was to turn off high resolution ship graphics in the options. Now, I have a completely new PC and things are back to normal.
Man, how can you have this list without Singe from Dragon's Lair...? http://www.pixelpower.on.ca/dl/images/DLAdam-750.jpg
There is a simple solution and actually I think it is the best solution is that you have a checkbox in the game options so that you can turn on or off tactical combat.
My problem here is that doing this will take resources away from some other aspect of the game or it's development. Resources better spent improving AI, diplomacy, any number of things.
hypothetically, couldn't one go to a friend's house, get on their PC, download impulse, log into their account and download all of their purchased games onto that friends PC?
Well, I'm on the record as being opposed to any form of tactical combat in GalCiv III for (mostly) the same reasons that Stardock didn't put it in GalCiv II. But it is in Elemental - although that doesn't necessarily prove anything - and if it is in GalCiv III, this would be pretty much what I would want.
I agree with you, GalCiv isn't about tactics.
Now I wish I could get it to install in Windows 7 64 bit. Double clicking the exe does nothing.
ok, have to be honest, the very first impression was "eww, why do people talk so highly of this?" It is VERY overwhelming if you just dive in and try to figure it out. However, after watching through the tutorials, and actually reading the manual a bit, and giving it a second chance, I can say this has potential for some awesomeness. Adjusting to the change of pace is a challenge though. Is there any way to speed things up, especially
also, where sins is mostly a war game (at least vanilla sins), galciv2 has many winning strategies...diplomacy, galactic influence, etc. it IS much slower paced though (I like that) so be warned. :) and enjoy.
I haven't heard Elemental's score yet, but I looovvvve GalCiv2's music (I keep the CD in my car on repeat, it's so cinematic, it's like a great film score). I can't wait to hear it though, is the music available anywhere yet?
Elemental: " Rich, single-player campaign with over 30 hours of gameplay. " I hope it will be more than that .
All I want is a great sandbox mode with a ton of options. The campaign means nothing to me.
I don't know, I don't mind being forced to install something. When I bout Fallout 3 game of the year edition, I had to install windows live. Guess how many times that bothered me while spending 180+ hours on this fabulous game and it's expansions...zero.
I absolutely love the Civ series...I think I can live with it. It would take a lot to keep me from Civ V.
so civ v will be like assassins creed 2 in that you need a constant connection to their server to play single player? that would be bad.
This doesn't affect my desire for Civ V in any way. Of course I'll get it. Who cares if you have to use steam? That's like complaining that a game is only available on DVD and not 3.5" floppys. This is a non-issue. This is no different than having to use Impulse.
*Very* intriguing idea - I'll be watching this thread (just kidding) (LOL still giggling)
why is this so funny?
weren't the graphics overhauled for TotA?
I agree 100%
I can’t say I see the appeal of tactical combat for Gal Civ III. I understand it is cool and all, but… …it couldn’t be used in any three or more person multiplayer match. I have no idea if multiplayer is planned for any Gal Civ III, but if it was, you couldn’t reasonably include it in any match with more than two people as it would just leave the other p
