we are arguing the morality, for lack of a better word atm, of the situation. that's the whole point. everyone knows this is stardock's forum and that they published demigod. we don't like what they did regardless of this fact. it should have already been implied that we know this is stardock's gig, because we're posting ON ITS FORUMS and arguing on behalf of someone they banned. the effort on the part of warskull's

They are two different things. also, we've had enough of people coming in this thread and stating the painfully obvious without reading at least a couple pages of the thread. everything your longwinded crap post pointed out has been said ad naseum and really isn't relevant to begin with.
I wasn't arguing Legal rig

Letting one person play with slightly higher ping isn't nice enough to give everyone a half/whole second delay. Many people use ISPs that throttle their connection as well, or maybe they are just on a bad wireless connection, and that ping goes from 200 to 500 in a matter of seconds. If you think 350ping and 0 ping have the same performance...seriously, go back to Networking 1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Stardock a Private Company and able to operate in any way it so choses? Unlike EA Games or Activision Blizzard, where they are held accountable to their Share Holders, Stardock is able to conduct itself without the focus on the almighty dollar at every waking moment. With this in mind, these bannings are understandable as in the real world crap like this simply wouldn't be tolerated - not to mention most the people wou

I understand perfectly well what you are arguing, I just don't agree with it. I do not recognize the validity of implicit agreements. The term is very nearly an oxymoron. The concept of an agreement hinges on the terms being explicitly laid out and understood. You can't really agree to something when you don't know
And btw, i'm still wondering why CoH, SC or DoW2, all p2p games, didn't have this major problems...
The games you've listed don't use the exact system Demigod uses - for example SC (Starcraft) uses Battle.net and I believe DoW2 uses Relics own networking system. I can't comment on CoH's as I've never played that game. All of those games' developers have had previous experience with multiplayer - this is GPG's and Stardock's

I know a lot of players, myself included, like the idea of some kind of persistence in Demigod. Currently, apart from the rather flakey Favour system, the only persistence we have are our Stats and Username, which are fine, however only one of those is viewable in-game. I was wondering if having an Icon/Medal next to a player's name - such as a Star or some such - that represents a players total Games won might be an added level of persistence, albeit a small one. This would be simill
Limiting your upload speed from a program itself might reduce the amount of ACK sent, but limiting the total upload speed of your connection only makes the ACK problem worse. A better solution would be to give the ACKs priority so that if the upload is clogged, the ACKs are sent first and the remaining available speed is used for other stuff; however only few routers support this and it requires technical knowledge to setup. Neither of these things

The only issue here is also the reason why other companies don't make these kinds of entries; no one can see delays coming. No matter how good you plan ahead there is always one little thing that props up that can put you behind. Like baby turtles. Companies such as Blizzard or EA Games only make Offical Statements rather than informal journal entries, and they make sure that when they make those Offical Statements that they can meet any dates they've listed. It's why they take 6 months
So just because Blizzard is that much better, they can't be used as comparison? Kind of a flawed logic if you ask me. Demigod is in direct competition with Blizzard and its upcoming Stracraft 2. GPG and Stardock were lucky Blizzard only announced Beta for SC2 instead of a release date, otherwise we all know what would have happened. If you want to make a RTS or a MMORPG, you go in direct competition with Blizzard and that's whom you

Interesting information guys, thank you very much - I think may have figured out another part of this puzzle. Once in a game with Demigod, I don't have any real problems remaining connected - at least no more than anyone else. This is because, as Aprogas pointed out, it swaps over to UDP once the game is launched. However while in the lobby - and still using TCP - I would still be receiving the 'handshake' messages, no? This would explain why connecting to other players is a problem <

I think some of the major causes of this type of in-game quitting as now is simply re-rolling the dice. I played 3v3 Fortress on Cat 3 times in a row in Skirmish. Considering it takes around 20-30 minutes for me to get a game, I was very tempted to quit when it came up for the third time because I was sick and tired of it. I didn't, however. Another reason is because frankly some players don't like to lose. Ever. They quit the moment something doesn't go their
So can I play online without being yelled at every five seconds or should i play singleplayer some more? Also strategywise I normaly play Unclean Beast, since his abilities match up with my favorites in games, namely good speed, good dps, good dot, and overall great hit and run potential with the ability to also focus on heath and mana regen to make myself almost invincible if the situation calls for it. So I normally go mainly for spit and inner beast w
